We loved the staff and their recommendations for our first time visiting. The portions for a large are family size, so be prepared to take extra people or have leftovers. Don’t skip out on the dessert. The leche flan is delicious. Be patient as well food is made to order so wait times can be long.

A Taste of the Philippines Done Right: My Experience at Max’s Restaurant in Bakersfield
Max’s Restaurant in Bakersfield is a true gem for anyone craving authentic and delicious Filipino cuisine. From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted with a clean and genuinely nice vibe. The atmosphere is welcoming and comfortable, making it a pleasant place to enjoy a meal with family and friends.
One of the standout aspects of my visit was the great staff. They were attentive, friendly, and clearly passionate about the food they serve. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu, offering helpful recommendations and ensuring our needs were well taken care of throughout our dining experience. Their warm hospitality truly enhanced the overall enjoyment.
Of course, the star of the show is undoubtedly the amazing Filipino food. Max’s delivers on the promise of authentic flavors and well-executed dishes. We had the pleasure of trying a few classics, and each one was a delight. The [mention a specific dish you enjoyed, e.g., crispy pata] was perfectly cooked with incredibly crispy skin and tender meat. The [mention another dish, e.g., sinigang] had that signature sour and savory broth that was both comforting and flavorful. Every bite transported me straight to the Philippines.
Whether you’re a long-time fan of Filipino food or looking to try it for the first time, Max’s in Bakersfield is a fantastic choice. The combination of a clean and inviting ambiance, exceptional service, and truly delicious and authentic dishes makes for a memorable dining experience. I highly recommend giving Max’s a visit – your taste buds will thank you!

Chicken was dry. Lumpia were burnt yet tasted uncooked! Over priced. Condiments were dirty. What happened to this Filipino restaurant? Seems like the standards have gone way down. I ate here first back is Dec 2025 it was bad then, and I wanted to give them another chance but boy, same thing and if anything it’s worse. Too bad, I hope the management take an assessment. Why is there no special sauce for the chicken? I thought there’s supposed to be some gravy. The dip for the lumpia they give you way too small amount. So disappointed.

I’ve been wanting to try this place. Quick background in my experience with Filipino food. Grew up in LA and had LA Filipino food. Moved to Bakersfield about 4 years ago and haven’t really found any.

This was my first time there and I wanted to try a little bit of everything and do the lunch special. It was a Saturday afternoon and they told me that is only a special during the weekdays. The person in the front said she would make an exception because it was my first time and I was

It was delicious, the lumpia, chicken, pancit, and even the steam rice(hit was perfectly cooked and so light). The pancit can often be too salty for my taste, and this one was perfect. The chicken tasted like Mexican CHICHARRON (amazing). The only complaint was the thigh was pretty small, but because it was so good I was fine with it. I will definitely be coming back or catering.

We waited in line right before the restaurant opened. The line was already long but we were seated at our table relatively fast. The waiter took our order and gave us our water. Up to this point, everything was going as expected. Then we waited and waited for our food. The 2 tables seated 10 minutes after us got their food before us. Our waiter was nowhere to be found. They have so many waiters and waitresses working in pairs (training) but nobody came and checked on us or gave us update. We finally saw our waiter and asked to see where our order was and complained to him about the wait time. The manager came over, apologized for the delay but seemed annoyed with our complaints. We waited over an hour to get our food.

The fried chicken was good. Hot, crispy, and juicy. The french fries were cold and soggy. Pancit was good. Garlic fried rice was decent. Garlic pieces were burnt but not terrible. We got Halo Halo and as you can see in the pic, it was almost half empty. For 7 or 8 bucks, that wasn’t worth it at all. We also had to wait 10-15 mins to get our receipt because one waitress decided to have a chat in the middle of her transaction and blocked the POS from our waiter to use.

I understand the restaurant just recently opened and a lot of things need to be ironed out but there was no excuse for inefficient service and management with the amount of people working. We were really excited to try Max’s but after today’s experience, we won’t be going back there again unless they improve their service and food.

To start with , food tasted like any other chain . Decent and commercial. I ordered their fish fry , a pork dish and noodles . Fish was too salty for my taste , they should have sided it with rice or veg like how they have it In Philippines. The pork belly was blunt for me . Noodles was good , but nothing special . I would say it’s good for those who like those taste. But pricy for what you get though, but it’s understandable at these time. I wouldn’t go back .

Loved their pancit canton, definitely a good portion that filled me up. Had to try the Taho dessert and it tasted just like how it is in the Philippines. Clean restaurant and service was quick. Definitely recommend

1st time eating here, everything was good except for a long wait. They need more staff. Everybody was waiting for the food, it took soo long to get. Waited for about 45 to 1 hour for food to come. So I suggest give yourself enough time for the wait. Enjoy and have a good time.

Good food, good portions. The adobo could be less oily though and could have been better parts of the chicken. The sinigang na bangus was pretty good and beef stroganoff was pretty tender.

The food is just ok, nothing great. Atmosphere is good. I do not like the cashier at the front desk. She looks mad and she seems not enjoying her job. She does not even smile. The Filipino staff are friendly. We will not return because of her and the food is overpriced.
