We are a locally-owned bakery and dessert cafe that focuses on Southern desserts from Red Velvet cake to pecan pie and banana pudding! Our Devil’s Food Cake is the cake that launched our bakery and is still one of our most loved. We make all of our cakes, icings, and fillings from scratch and use as many local farms as we can. For instance, free-range eggs from McCleansville, pecans from Roseboro, milk and ice cream from Homeland Creamery in Julian, NC. Simply walk up and order on the patio, or order online. Dining available both inside and on our garden-style patio. Questions or need help? Email us! [email protected]. I recently visited Maxie B’s for the first time in years. I decided to try their German chocolate cake. I was pleasantly surprised that it had the perfect amount of sweetness. I do not like overly sweet cakes like most the kinds sold at the store. This had a perfect texture and I loved the coconut custard filling.
I’ve since visited Maxie B’s a few more times and tried a variety of their cakes. My #1 favorite is the Black Forest cake which they usually only have around winter time but I luckily was there on a day when they had made a whole one. Black Forest cake is my favorite cake of all time and they did it perfectly, using two types of cherries (sour and dark sweet) and a perfect filling and lovely whipped topping. I would get this every time if they had it year round!
My other favorites so far are the key lime cake, the old fashioned chocolate cake, the chocolate mousse cake and the pineapple coconut. The German chocolate is probably my second favorite after the Black Forest. Every cake I’ve tried though has been excellent! I only wish their prices were a little better… $9 for a slice of German chocolate cake is a bit steep. Most of their cakes range between $7 – $8 a slice.But I know they use higher quality ingredients than most other places so I don’t mind treating myself occasionally.

Got some cupcakes this time, vanilla with sprinkles, chocolate with sprinkles, and then a vanilla one with strawberry. The service and hospitality here is always top notch, the young ladies were very sweet and attentive. Also extremely knowledgeable and efficient, there’s a reason I’ve been a frequent visitor for years.

Maxie B’s made our 9″ red velvet wedding cake along with several dozen cupcakes in classic vanilla, all American chocolate, and red velvet. The cake was gorgeous and larger than I expected — three layers! It all tasted great and we received many questions from guests asking where we got the cake. Service was also very friendly during the ordering/pickup process.

One of the nicest and most cozy places to grab a sweet treat to enjoy on a rainy day or any day period. Come for the food and atmosphere. It’s definitely unique and one of a kind.

I’ve been here several times and never done a review. After tasting the pumpkin bar yesterday I want another one already. It was delicious, the cream cheese frosting was amazing. The bakery is beautiful and as always the staff is the best. I’ll be back soon for another pumpkin bar!!

They have so many cakes, cookies, pies, and treats. I wanted to try everything and there were so many choices I didn’t know what to get. The cakes were a bit too sweet for my taste, but that’s because I’m used to Asian sweets. Some of the cakes are quite indulgent but the flavors and quality is great.
The cakes are super fresh and they were bringing out cakes after cakes as people were purchasing it. When I was there, the line was out the door and it looked like they were never gonna run out no matter how many people were there.

About 5-10 years ago, I would have given Maxie B’s 5 out of 5. I loved Maxie Bs. In fact, my husband travelled an hour plus to pick up a cake for my graduation because he knew how much I enjoyed their cake.
Now, the cakes and cupcakes are dry. This is my second time over the course of a year or so that this has been the case. I’m starting to think this is a trend, which breaks my heart. Because I come to Maxie B’s whenever I’m in Greensboro.

Beautiful location and welcoming environment and staff.
I was truly impressed with the amount of cakes, cookies and cupcakes. I believe they have gluten free options as well. I was welcomed into the chic location by a few members of the staff to ensure I was taken care of.
I ordered a total of five cupcakes, carrot cake, an old fashioned, red velvet, vanilla and Oreo. I love the carrot cake and will definitely make sure I go get another one before I leave. I wasn’t necessarily overly impressed with the Oreo as it didn’t seem as fresh as the others. Everyone else did like the others.
As an out of towner, I didn’t know how much things cost-I probably would’ve purchased more desserts had the prices been posted. There were no menus posted or available (I asked).

This review is coming a bit late, but I ordered cupcakes from Maxie B’s to have them delivered to my husband on his birthday some time ago.
I was not in the country, so I couldn’t be there to celebrate in person; however, Maxie B’s staff was really helpful in getting the order delivered to him in time. They were constantly in contact with me through email and arranged for a timely delivery. My husband received the cupcakes in perfect form and loved them!

Maxie B’s is such a great spot for desserts, they’ve never disappointed. One of my favorite cakes is the Humming bird cake and I haven’t seen it anywhere but here. I’ve also ordered whole cakes here and they follow the instructions to a T with very clear communication. The most recent order I placed was for my nephews first birthday and it was perfect. They also have cookies and cupcakes. When I went to pick up the cake, they also had samples out to try a few of their desserts.
