Nothing super fancy but just good ol’ traditional American home cooking in a spacious dining area that’s kept clean with friendly welcoming service.
Good food at still reasonable prices and my kind of family restaurant. We live pretty far northeast in Beach Park up in Lake Co but are in Schaumburg a few times a year particularly in the Woodfield area.
If ever doing another family outing in the area and decide on brunch beforehand, Maxfield’s is a must. Hope for several more years of boomin’ business to come for the owner(s).
Only one improvement is suggested. To go food containers (see photos)
I wouldn’t be writing this review at all except for the fact that the prices are so very high in exchange for the food quality. I think that the restaurant relies upon elderly people from the immediate area who aren’t going to say anything about the food quality.
The food is EXTREMELY bland and EXTREMELY overpriced. You will not escape for less than $20 for a simple, tasteless omelette.
The omelettes taste like they are made with cheap eggs and have no seasoning in them. I don’t think that the cook has heard of salt. I ordered a gyros and feta cheese and it was bland as pablum. I asked the waitress for a side of cucumber sauce to try to liven it up and the cucumber sauce appeared to have flour in it. It was equally bland. A good dump of Tabasco sauce made a small portion of the omelette at least palatable but I ended up leaving all but about 1/4 of it because it was just tasteless. The hash browns were equally tasteless The pancakes had absolutely no flavor to them at all. I don’t think that their cook ever heard of vanilla The maple syrup is (per taste) made from corn syrup and passed from one table to the next. I thought that that went out in covid.
On another occasion I ordered a gyros sandwich. It had hardly any meat on it at all and the meat that was there was definitely not traditional gyros meat. The gyros meat, which should be a staple of a Greek restaurant, is underwhelmingly bland and flabby and there was hardly any there. The french fries were really the entree of the dish as the gyros sandwich was pretty much sparse, tasteless, and lacking much meat. I don’t think there was 2 oz on the whole sandwich. The french fries were good though.
On another occasion I phoned in a pickup order for a little girl that I was babysitting. They refused to fill the order because I didn’t have proof of her age and said that they would only serve a youngster inside the restaurant. I was ordering two salads and two sandwiches along with the kid’s meal.
I used to frequent this restaurant years ago and they had VERY good food. It’s still a nice neighborhood get together place if you can afford it. You will not be getting out the door for less than $20 per person, which I consider a ridiculously expensive for a basic restaurant. I go down the road to Village Tavern to get enjoyable meals for a fraction of the price.
Maxfield’s simply is not what it once was, sadly. The majority of their clientele are habitual from the neighborhood. I have lived here for 40 years and we talk amongst ourselves let the food is really awful but continue to go there because it’s just convenient.
We are all hoping for another Greek restaurant to open up in the Schaumburg area soon
I’m sorry for the poor review, Maxfield’s, but certainly you don’t need to have the prices so sky high and your cook not know how to put salt into an omelette and the “gyros meat” to be so poor of quality.
I hope you take this review to heart and try to change some things. It could be as simple as adding salt to the eggs so that they have some seasoning when they cook or purchasing a decent quality lamb for your gyros.
Because you are a neighborhood place, Dimitri, we don’t say it to your face but instead hide behind online reviews.
The only way that you can get out of Maxfield’s with less than a $20 tab is to just order a bowl of soup. The soup is not homemade. The clam chowder was more potato than anything else end of a very slippery consistency. It was obviously canned.
This restaurant was a staple of the community since it was called Blackberries back in the 1980s. It was absolutely the place to be on Sunday morning. They could make some simple modifications, like lowering the prices and actually seasoning the food to restore it to how it used to be but I’m confident this falls on deaf ears.
$20 for a bill for one person to order a simple omelette is absolutely outrageous. The chickens have been restored. There is no great egg shortage anymore.
I was seated almost immediately and everyone was very attentive and serving with smiles. I was given my drinks right away.
I love how fluffy my omelette was! I ordered the Kaiyan omelette (tomato, onion, feta) It looked so appetizing. I usually can’t finish a serving but this one, I devoured. Well, I also was on fasting mode so I was really hungry. The omelette was perfectly seasoned but I bit into an egg shell but hey, extra calcium, why not lol I just hoped it was washed lol
I also ordered corned beef hash on the side and it was cooked on a perfect crisp. I wish salt was toned down a bit.
I had fruits and there were some grapes that were not as fresh. I did not take toast and/or pancake just because I did not want to waste them on my plate if I end up not eating them but it comes with either for every order of omelette and skillets.
I will definitely come back. The location is just very close to another good massage place, Respa Foot Spa
