For a true taste of the Hawaiian islands, Chef Justin incorporates traditional flavors as well as new and innovative dishes. Majority of the items on the menu come from the island from locally sourced fish to grass-fed beef of the Big Island. Each dish has so much thought put into every little detail and Chef Justin does an incredible job explaining each dish to you. One of my favorite aspects of the farm is how authentic the experience is. The setting is a casual gazebo overlooking the southern coast of the island and it is surrounded by untouched raw nature. Nothing is manicured about this farm as nature intended. One of my favorite spots to sit is their thoughtfully curated bench surrounded by lavender that overlooks the ocean. The owners, Justin & Jasmin acquired this land from a wilderness therapy program, and before that, it was owned by Hawaiian royalty. They have worked so hard to restore the land and it shows with their dinner presentation. If you don’t have the opportunity to dine at the farm-to-table dinner, be sure to check out their food truck selling delicious premium grass-fed burgers on the Big Island!

Places like this are a rare find, yet deserve all of the support. Mauka to Makai Eatery is a true farm to table restaurant with a commitment to sustainability and supporting food sovereignty in Hawai’i. My partner and I joined them for a 6-course meal tasting and I absolutely loved how they had listed where each ingredient was sourced from on their menu. On top of this, the meal was filling and full of flavor, the service was friendly and efficient (even being down a chef!), and the open-air atmosphere was perfect for our romantic date night – absolutely worth every penny! Jasmine and her husband have a passion for what they do and it clearly shows in the space they have created and the food they make. This place is seriously a gem and I hope they are able to continue this amazing service for years to come.

If you are looking for local, organic, delicious food with amazing views – this is the spot!
Everything on the menu is 10/10, and the purple potato salad is vegan and the best I’ve ever had!
Eating here will be a highlight of your trip, and is well worth the drive.

It’s a short drive up from the small town. Any car can drive up. The views along the road and from the top are great. The farm is kinda cute with lavender flowers, squash and more..
Food is fresh and tasty. The soup was exceptional and the burgers were delicious.

This place is a hidden gem! Clearly the owners have put a lot of love and thought into this special place. It’s not only a great place to eat but it’s an experience in itself due to the beautiful location. The view is to die for! I had the vegan mushroom burger and it was so tasty and fresh. Was really impressed with the owners dedication to sustainability, and how they’re a true farm to table restaurant (farm is literally across the street!). Cannot recommend Mauka to Makai eatery more!

Words don’t even describe the food the scenery and hospitality that we experienced yesterday. By far the best service we have ever had, the top five burgers we have ever had. It was mine and my husband’s honeymoon and we met up with Justin Jasmine Josh and Bri recommended their farm to table food truck while we were at the Fairmont orchid. You can literally experience where they got their amazing food from. Josh did an amazing job on that burger. It was a beautiful 2-hour drive but well worth it to see the countryside. It was so rural. Not a lot of tourists and if you’re looking for more one-on-one time with the land and your significant other, I highly recommend going. The black sand beach that Justin and Jasmine recommended was well worth it. We loved every second and the farm was so beautiful.

Very good food! My burger was fantastic, the chayote fries were unexpectedly amazing and my favorite part was actually the soup! My vegetarian friend was with me and she was pleased with the options she had. If you get the root booch to drink it really does taste like root beer! If you want water they do offer a place to fill up your bottles for free and I believe all of their plates and silverware are compostable.
The view is amazing and the folks running the place seem super nice, sincere and passionate about what they are providing. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone even close to the area!

I had a magnificent lunch here and saw a flier for a farm to table six course dinner. Ok- honestly…I have searched out farm to table restaurants everywhere I go and this place takes the gold medal for sourcing from neighboring farms and businesses- inventive menu combinations- complimentary tastes- and the couple running are as charming and enthusiastic as they come!! I love food, I celebrate sustainability and I was so glad to see that they are solar powered. Yet- what really blows my mind is the view of the volcano, mountains and ocean in one panoramic sweep. The design of the open aired pavilion is utterly magical. WOW. Can’t recommend it highly enough!!!!

I was absolutely not expecting this place to be this nice. The view is absolutely bonkers. I have no idea which way to look because the landscape is just absolutely stunning all around us. This is genuinely the best view I have ever had while eating in the entirety of my life. Mauna Loa and the beautiful big island coast in combination is something I’ll never forget. No photos could ever do this view justice. The goats hanging out also were quite cute.
The atmosphere was also so amazing. Gentle lofi music in the background while we ate some very tender and savory burgers with farm to table ingredients was quite the experience. The taro was also quite delicious, and everything just tastes so exceptionally fresh. Give their teas a try. They’re really healthy and taste so good. It felt so good to eat farm fresh food while physically at the farm.
The only thing I’m upset about is that I won’t be around to try their tasting menu. It looks absolutely fantastic.
What an experience. I really hope this place does well. They put something special together here.

I consider it a huge blessing that we found this place and they were open. What an incredible treat! I’m not a foodie, more of a picky eater honestly, so a pic of the food didn’t even occur to me. Couldn’t stop taking photos of everything else though! Our group of 7 all loved our meals. The only downside was it was all over too quickly. It is not an exaggeration to say that you would do well to plan your day or your vacation around eating here as much as possible. From Hawi or Hilo, Kona or Kamuela – I promise it’s worth the drive.
