If you live anywhere near Lenoir City and haven’t tried Maui Waui Café yet, you are seriously missing out. I’m not exaggerating when I say I dream about their subs. On the days they’re closed, it genuinely feels like a small personal tragedy (and someone should probably check on me).
Everything on the menu is ridiculously good. The ingredients taste like someone actually cared when they put the sandwich together, and every bite makes you immediately start planning your next visit. It’s the kind of place where you finish your food and immediately start thinking, “Okay… when can I come back?”
But the food isn’t the only reason this place stands out. The owner and employees are some of the friendliest people you’ll meet. They make you feel welcome the second you walk in, like you’re not just another customer but someone they’re genuinely happy to see. At this point, I’m starting to wonder if we can just skip the formalities and become best friends.
Bottom line: Maui Waui Café is hands down the best restaurant in Lenoir City. Amazing food, great people, and the kind of place that turns a simple sandwich into something you can’t stop thinking about. Just be warned: you might end up dreaming about it too.

I had actually never heard of Maui Waui until I received their menu in the mail, and I’m so glad I decided to give it a try! The menu is small but mighty every item feels thoughtfully crafted.
We tried a few things, and the King Tut was our absolute favorite definitely a must-try! The Cuban Lynx wasn’t really our style, but the Hard Knox was pretty good. The chip selection was good too, though I think I’d personally love to see fries added to the lineup.
The staff was sooo friendly and welcoming, and answered all my questions the place was very clean inside, which made the whole experience even better. The atmosphere was wonderful super cute, relaxed, and inviting and parking was a breeze, which is always a plus.
One small suggestion it would be great to have a few more diet or zero-sugar drink options.
Overall, Maui Waui totally exceeded my expectations. I’ll definitely be coming back!

This place is amazing! The environment is so beautiful and peaceful. The lady that helped us (I believe she is the owner) made us feel so welcome. We ordered the King Tut and the White Rhino (we shared so we could experience them both). They were SOOOOO great! They were made to perfection! My pictures do not do them justice because we started devouring them as soon as they hit the table. I highly recommend this place!

Excellent place to eat if you’re in the historic downtown Lenoir City area. Fair prices and delicious food. When we went the owner was the only one working and she took our order, made our sandwiches, and hand-delivered them to our table. They were amazing, and the chips were as well. Definitely will be back!
Update: We went for Taco Tuesday and they were great too! My only complaint is that it took quite a while for the food to be made, but that’s understandable considering the restaurant was busy and only two people were working. We were able to pass the time easily with the board games. The beef tacos were my favorite. Chicken and veggie tacos were not as good, but still alright. The chips and drink selections are amazing. The chocolate chip cookie was warm and delicious as well.

Came in, not knowing what to order but I decided to try the Hard Knox sandwich with a Cream Soda and some Salt and Vinegar chips. I don’t have a photo of the sandwich because I ate it too fast. Beef was cooked perfectly, bacon wasn’t rubbery like every other restaurant I’ve ever visited, pickles were in just the right amount to compliment the beef, red cabbage gave it some crunch, the cheese was slightly melted and in perfect amount, and the sauce DID make the sandwich start to get soggy (that’s because I didn’t eat it right away since I was on my phone) but the bread is good enough quality to hold up for a while and the amount of sauce was perfect. Delicious sandwich that made me forget my soda and chips.
The lady who took my order was kind, patient, and recommended some good choices. The lady in the kitchen came to make sure my sandwich was satisfactory and they both let me know to give them a shout if I needed anything.
The music isn’t too loud and offers a good atmosphere for a sandwich shop. There’s plenty of seating and a direct view into the kitchen.
I highly recommend giving this place a try.

Randomly drove by while visiting the area and the exterior design drew me in. Clever name, creative vibes and super friendly girls at the counter helping me narrow down all the great choices. Owner has awesome energy and a great smile… plus the sammy was super dope. Perfect proportions, fresh french bread / baguette style sandwiches with perfect sauce/protein/starch ratio. Going back to try the beef one before I leave.

I had the limited time Christmas sandwich, and omg it was life altering. Every single ingredient is the highest quality I have ever had on a sandwich, and their house made sauces omg unbeatable. We are visiting on the way to Gatlinburg and the whole time I was just thinking how will I live without this sandwich in my everyday life. All of the workers are so cool, and the place is so cute. The music is fire in there so whoever is on aux needs a raise! I’m obsessed with this place.

Fantastic, healthy, delicious food, and a quiet, homey atmosphere – it’s my new favorite spot to get lunch in Lenoir City.
The baked subs are delicious, and I especially liked Taco Tuesday – though note that they’re serious about Taco Tuesday, you can’t get sandwiches on Tuesday, only tacos!
Don’t expect it to be ready instantly, there’s a small staff and they make everything as you order. Personally, I’d rather the sandwich be fresh and the ingredients sliced as you order (like at, say, Jersey Mike’s) rather than picked out of a bin (like at, say, Subway), it was a nice change of pace.
Do check the hours if you’re a little outside the lunch or dinner windows – being a small staff, they take a break from 2-5 and aren’t open while it’s slow. But when I showed up late, they were courteous enough to chase me down the sidewalk and offer to make a sandwich to go when I messed up at 2:05 and dejectedly walked away!
Sides are Carolina Kettle chips in a variety of flavors, and premium Boylan and Nashville Sweet Tea Co. lemonades, iced teas, root beer, canned/bottled alcohol options – no fountain drinks or fries here!
As a Dad, I particularly appreciated that the (very clean!) restroom has a full-on wooden changing table with a covered pad, stocked with baby wipes. It’s been a couple years for me, but I remember having to change my kid in the women’s restroom, on those gross “Koala care” shelves, or on my lap/in the car/on the floor.
