After my dual procedure a few doors down at the Pacific Endoscopy Center, I knew I’d be super hungry afterwards so my husband picked up a Beef Donburi Bowl for me to take home. I really really enjoyed it. It hit the spot for me. Good portion of very tasty, soft and chewy beef, full of good flavor on a mound of well cooked rice. Few slivers of onions on top. He knows I don’t care for shoga (ginger) so he didn’t bother getting any but it is available if you want. Will definitely be back.

Japanese style gyudon beef bowls in Pearl City. Located on Kuala Street next door to Starbucks in the strip mall that has Sams Club Gas and Walmart.

These guys used to be in the old Shirokiya back in the day. A bit pricey compared to beef bowls in Japan but were in Hawaii so thats the price you pay.

Havent visited here in a while so decided to eat in. Gone are the self serve mayo and red ginger condiments which is my fave to pile on which now is limited to one little serving…. Extra is at an additional charge. The ceramic bowls are gone, now served in smaller plastic bowls.
Portions are noticably smaller too even with a large bowl for $20

Probably wont visit here anymore….used to be one of my go tos….3 stars.

Dirty interior. Nice staff. Great food. Do not come here close to 20 mins before closing. They will not take your order and you should update the time to 7:30pm but coming from far is not worth the denial 15 minutes before it supposedly closes. Multiple times at 7:40pm they’ve disappointed!

I was disappointed by the food. No unique Japanese style of food or taste. Portion was small. The interior was good, but it was just like a storage. You can find free parking here. Wouldn’t recommend it.

Great take out place!
Just come here when you are near by or just too lazy to cook . Lol
Everything is good but my fave is ontama beef bowl.
M size is plenty with 2 eggs. I couldn’t finish all.
Bottle water was just $1. That’s nice that they are not ripping you off like other restaurants… but I wish they have a pitcher of water for dine in customer.

Definitely a place to try if you are in Pearl City. They seem very authentic Japanese with even the workers who have a heavy Japanese accent.

There are quite a few favorites that are starred in the menu. I must admit it’s pretty good and the portions are generous.

I had the Ontama Beef Bowl with and extra egg. I’m not sure how to discount the egg except it’s soft on the outside with the yolk cooked and slightly firm on the inside.

Based on the crowd inside, it’s frequented by Asians who travel from places like Japan as they were all speaking Japanese when I sat down.

Oishii desu!!

Great food. Man, I love Japanese curry! This place reminded me of my younger days, travelling overseas.

We had the chicken katsu curry and mabo tofu bowls. They were so good!

No need to buy a drink, there’s free water (dine in only). The guy behind the counter was very nice too.

Parking can suck a bit, depending on the time of day you go.

They also give discounts for military and students too!

I’ll definitely return here again!

First time at eatery & with the 1st taste of my order, I knew we’d be returning.

Parking can be limited being lot is shared with other businesses, but dont let it deter you from going to this place.

Upon entry, it was quite noticeable eatery took COVID-19 precautions seriously with hand sanitizers available & every other table set up for dine-in (50% capacity).

Stepping in, you’ll see an easy to read up close menu as well as the larger menu board above cashier.  Although dining in, food are all in disposable containers along with any condiments & utensils placed in a plastic bag.

I ordered their beef curry udon whereas my daughter ordered beef curry rice bowl with 3 pcs of takoyaki on the side.  We comfortably sat in one of their booths taking in the aroma of our orders and savoring the tastes.

This dine in establishment sells bowls of rice with various toppings including: beef, chicken, curry, ma po tofu, shrimp tempura, etc.
Each type of meat is available in several different ways so there are many options available. Most bowls have a small, medium, or large option.
The food was tasty and freshly prepared. I had the kim chee beef rice bowl and my husband had the ontama beef rice bowl.
The restaurant is very clean and comfortable feeling. There is no table service available.
I’ll be returning to try other bowls on their menu.

Definitely one of the better quick bite restaurants on Oahu. Food is great and the price is very reasonable. Place is clean and organized. Self service so no tips required. Newspapers and manga available. Senior, students, and military discounts.
