Visited twice while we were in Italy. The visits were 2 weeks apart and the first visit we had a large group (11 people) and arrived late for dinner and they were very accommodating. Both visits the service was great. Love the airy atmosphere. There is also a garden patio in the back. Seafood was great. We loved the bread with the anchovy butter to start along with fresh anchovies and the calamari and artichokes. The gnocchi special was delicious. Also enjoyed the Spaghetti with baby octopus ragout, tuna and sea bass cutlet.

We have been coming to this restaurant for 11 years and it never fails to astound! Valentina is an extraordinarily talented chef and Stefano is an exemplary host. The dishes are delicious: the fish is fresh and of excellent quality, and the cuisine is exquisite (it blends the quality of a tasting menu with some more hearty, gratifying dishes. The wine list is also spectacular with a combination of niche choices and high quality bottles. The prices are low given the quality of food and drink. The place is elegant and the tables are set far apart, a rarity in the city center. I highly recommend a visit; you will not regret it!

I can’t wait till after the meal to write a review because it’s just so so good. We are still sitting in the restaurant’s lovely backyard, with charming atmosphere and heated lamp if it gets cold. The great experience doesn’t just stop at the atmosphere. Their food is spectacular! We’ve been in Rome for the past few days and we are desperate for something that’s no pizza or pasta. And don’t get me wrong, they do have great pasta dishes! The ingredients are so fresh and the chef definitely put a lot of thinkings in his cooking. I highly recommend it!

It is an elevated dining experience but highly recommend it. Everything was delicious and so beautifully cooked. The atmosphere is chic and romantic.
We had the calamari with artichoke, octopus with mango, the fried seafood, ravioli and the warm pear puff pastry. The flavors were bright and beautiful. Best octopus of my life!

My dining experience at Matermatuta during my second night in Rome was exquisite!!! My diet is gluten intolerance and I was served with care and excellence.
The atmosphere was breathtaking. Five stars rating is not quite enough. I would highly recommend anyone in or visiting Rome and is looking for a gluten free meal to enjoy!
