We tried Massa’s in Ballwin for the first time and you could tell right away it’s a well-loved place. There were people waiting and every table was full. It has a cozy, old-school Italian, mom-and-pop feel, small and intimate with low ceilings and it was decorated so nicely for Christmas. It honestly felt like stepping back into a classic neighborhood restaurant. The host and his wife were the kindest people and made us feel welcome right away. You could tell they truly care about their customers. Since it was our first time, I asked for recommendations and he happily gave several, which I really appreciated. They offer Coke products, bottled beer, wine, and specialty drinks. It’s very family-friendly but definitely not a place for large groups since it’s a smaller space. We got there right around 6 PM, so we expected a wait and it ended up being about 45 minutes (the host let me know approximately that timing). The parking lot is pretty small, so it did take a bit to find a spot, but it was worth it. We started with the garlic cheese bread ($5.99), which had provel or provolone on top and was really good flavor-wise. I do wish it came with sauce because it’s a little thick and dry without it. One thing I loved was that they bring a big bowl of freshly shaved Parmesan to your table with your food, such a simple touch, but it really adds a chefs kiss. I ordered the tortellini (no mushroom or peas to mine-$18.99) and it was some of the best I’ve had. The meat was seasoned perfectly, the cream sauce was rich, but not too heavy, and I didn’t even need to add salt or pepper. With that fresh Parmesan on top, it was perfection. The portion was large. I could’ve shared this but instead, I get to enjoy another meal out of it. My husband ordered the Cajun pasta ($20.99) and really liked it, though he admitted mine was better. His had a nice kick to it, good portions of shrimp (more shrimp than chicken) and chicken (shredded style), and enough left over to take home too. He also ordered a mic ultra ($4.50). The only real downside for us was that the pasta dishes don’t come with a salad or bread, which was a little disappointing, especially at an Italian restaurant, but everything was filling and delicious. Toward the end of the meal, service slowed a little as our waitress was closing out several tables at once, but overall she provided very nice service. Between the atmosphere, the service and food, we had a great experience. We’ll definitely be going back to try more!

Tried to call all day all the way up to we were leaving to see if they take reservations. Mailbox full. Do not even try to call this restaurant.
The parking lot is a joke. If you have any kind of a big car good luck .
We put our name in for 6 people at 6:25 pm. They said it would be 45 min to an hour. After an hour they said it should be 30 min. After the next 30 min. we were told another 30min. and by the way, this other group of people are ahead of you. Which they showed up after we were there for more than an hour. The hostess did not even want to communicate with us until we had to approach her. We left right away, since it was almost 8:30 pm.
The bartender barely even looked our way to order drinks. Looks like to me the only way you get in is if you know the owner. We will never go back to this terrible establishment again.

Honestly a VERY Good Hometown Italian Restaurant. Suggest reservations at diner time. Other times might expect a small wait on your table. From the host, to the waiting staff, to the cooks, they all work a perfect orchestration of a fine dining experience. You will NOT be disappointed as all drink and meals are VERY reasonable for great quality quinine. Don’t miss this one if you pass through the area.

My wife and I went to Massa’s for Date Night, on a Wednesday. We’ve been there before and went knowing we’d have a very good experience. We were not let down.

We got there for an early dinner – shortly after 5pm. The restaurant is fairly dark with low lighting, red walls, black leather booths and ornate decorations…it feels very “Italian” to me. We sat at the bar, as is our custom. The bar is quite long, with a black swirled marble top and wooden elbow rest railing. They have a full compliment of high-end liquors, a decent selection of beer, and many wines to choose from. The bartender was quite gracious and did a great job.

My wife had a martini and I had a bottle of beer while we waited for our food. She ordered pasta carbonara and had peas added. I had tortellini in a creamy Cajun sauce. I also had a glass of house Cabernet. The meals were fantastic, the servings large. We took quite a bit to-go after reaching maximum capacity. My wife saved some room for a slice of Gooey Butter Cake (a classic St. Louis dessert), which was of course, incredible.

Long story short: If you have a craving for high-quality Italian food, go to Massa’s. Great food, great service. The only downside is that it’s a *little* on the expensive side…but in my opinion, Massa’s is worth every penny. You get what you pay for. We’ll continue to revisit this fantastic Italian restaurant.

Very poor service waited a long time finally got water ordered pizza. It came out wrong after a long. Wait they took It back in the kitchen came out five minutes later was cold and you could tell they just threw the correct toppings on took forever to get a soda. Refill just was a very bad experience for my husband and myself. We ended at vaccine the pizza at the table to take home to heat up.

Showed up during the Friday night dinner rush. Was greeted promptly, and was told their would be about a 15 minute wait. Host was very courteous and kept us informed every few minutes. Many other restaurants can learn from this; if you keep your patrons informed about what is going on, they won’t get upset about waiting. These guys did it right.

Once seated, we looked over the menu and had a hard time making up our minds. Many items that sounded absolutely wonderful, and certainly not time to try them all. My son settled on the Cajon Pasta, my daughter had the Fettuccine Alfredo, and I had the Chicken Parmigiana.

While we waited, they brought fresh bread right from the oven as well as dinner salad. It all disappeared really quick. The wait for the food wasn’t bad at all, and they refilled the bread with another fresh loaf.

All the food tasted great, exactly as you’d expect from a quality Italian restaurant. Flavors were all well balanced, nothing was overdone or underdone, it was just all really terrific. The portions were huge, and all of us ended up taking home half of our dinner.

Sadly, we didn’t have room for dessert. We’ll definitely have to go back again!

Liked the atmosphere and the artwork although my girlfriend said it was tacky lol we both really loved our server and the food though! It will be a little date spot for us in the future for sure. You can tell the owners really care.

Old school St Louis Italian restaurant. Easy to forget that you’re not on The Hill here. Warm, friendly, and laid back atmosphere. Not the newer style loud restaurant where it’s hard to hear anything.

DO NOT skip the House Italian Salad.

They have gluten free options.

My favorite St. Louis Italian restaurant 40 years running. Really miss their Kirkwood location, but willing to travel to Ballwin because it’s that good. Their Italian salad is the best in the business and their toasted ravioli are the right level of crispy and soft. The pizza, lasagna, cannelloni, and beef Pepe are my favorite items.
