Went early on a Friday night to catch the cool opening band. At 7 pm, there weren’t many people and it had a very relaxed vibe. By 9 pm the place was packed with a steady stream of people coming in, mostly students, as expected.
The place has a warm industrial vibe and the wall behind the stage is beautiful; a work of art really. Was pleasantly surprised to see a food menu, which exists of items from Jolly Pumpkin next door. Had already eaten before arriving, so will have to try the food next time.
For drinks there are featured cocktails, but also a selection of beer, wine, and other libations. The service was top notch! Our server checked in multiple times to see if there was anything we needed. One unique thing they do is have you cash out as you place your order, which I don’t mind at all. All-in-all, a very nice spot to check out, but choose your visit timing according to the experience you’re looking for.

I had a terrible, borderline abusive experience at this bar for a private event last night. The venue hired outside security for an event at which they apparently planned to grab and shove college-aged girls out of the bar. The bar staff ruined all of the decor while the managers stood by and laughed. Not people friendly, not friendly for East Lansing.

Vibes, vibes, vibes! I loved this place. Drinks and live music – nothing is better than that. There’s a lot of space to move around and dance, or plenty of tables to just sit and sip. The bathrooms are huge too! All in all, Mash is the place to be!

I don’t remember her name but the manager whose name starts with a T is AMAZING. My friends skirt broke and she was running back and forth to help us stitch it up. Don’t know what we would’ve done without her help. She was so kind and understanding, such a girls girl. Will be attending mash just to see her again

This is one of the least professional bars in East Lansing. The DJs they brought in on a Saturday was extremely meh. There a lot better options in East Lansing. The bouncers and the security staff are always looking to cause trouble. Hope you guys can get it figured out for next year.

It has a ton of potential but definitely lots to workout. The drinks from the bar were very inconsistent (most of our group ordered craft cocktails) and the staff still seemed to have a lot to learn (our group was told many beers were out of stock because the bar tender was only looking for cans even though they had the options on draft). I have a lot that this place will get it together because it could be a really fun place but for the first weekend there is lots of room for improvement. Plus the security guards kept strobing people to get them out of the server path towards the upstairs but there was no rope, sign, or mat to indicate people should not stand there, something that could be more clear and preventable with some forethought.

I went to opening night at Mash and it blew my expectations out of the water. The staff was all very nice, and working hard to get drinks out to everyone as fast as possible. The place was very clean and most definitely has the best bar bathrooms in all of east lansing. Drinks were good and strong and worth every penny. Music was great & I can’t wait to go back when they have live music. Will definitely be going back & spending my weekends at Mash.

I want this place to work. I’ve lived in East Lansing for nearly 25 years. Marketed as a whiskey/bourbon bar, yet only 2 of 8 cocktails on the menu include whiskey/bourbon and both are poured from the well. When I visited (Sunday 7:30pm, summer), there were more people behind the bar than at the bar (no customers at tables either). Had to ask for a cocktail menu. Drink was far too sweet and served in PLASTIC bar ware!! Did not finish my drink and left within 20 minutes. Was hoping that downtown East Lansing was getting a nicer cocktail driven bar, but that is clearly not the case.

Walked in on a Friday when it wasnt too busy. They had live music. Unfortunately, they dont have a host nor signage to let you know to “seat yourself”. Three servers looked at us and ignored us standing at the door instead of letting us know we should seat ourselves. I finally went and asked the bartender, whom was nice. The live music was incredibly loud for 6pm dinner time. We didnt stay. Not having a host or proper signs is just asking for poor service.
