I am from Los Ángeles County, visiting La Jolla and San Diego with 3 families to dine with. On 12/27/2025, we came here for the first time since it’s one of the restaurants within the Ma’s Islamic Chinese Restaurant chain. I primarily visited the one in Anaheim and made a few trips to the Laguna Hills location. Unlike the others, this area has only 2 employees working at night. A contributing factor was that the service was slow and insufficient; we ordered a Sizzling Beef dish that initially was not fresh. We insisted that they bring it sizzling since that was its name. The same applies to the Garlic Jalapeño Chicken; it wasn’t fresh either. It seemed as though it had been left on a countertop instead of being served immediately. The Men’s Bathroom is very disgusting, unsanitary, and smells like waste. I was hoping that they’d be better, but perhaps not. This review will remain in effect until changes are made.

I don’t write reviews often but this is the best Chinese food I’ve ever had. The freshness is undeniable and the quantities are generous. The restaurant is very clean as well. Everything we ordered was a 10/10. We devoured it so only took a picture of the steamed beef dumplings. We also ordered beef stew noodle soup, fun chow beef noodles, house special chicken and honey walnut shrimp. The only thing I didn’t appreciate is that the entrees did not come with rice.

This place has so much potential, however the owners limit its growth. Has a prayer room & ample clean seating but the food does not taste fresh. We got 2 lunch specials. The portion sizes are plentiful but the taste is lacking. Only items we finished were the egg rolls. The veg noodles only had 3 vegetables in it & were stale. When ordering I did inquire which vegetables would be included and our server David said, “depends what we have in the kitchen today”. Could not give a straight forward answer. Orange chicken was savory but some pieces were stale. They are halal but not certified. Until things turn around & they get certified keep this place on hold.

Got the Whole Crispy Duck and the Moo Shu Lamb entrees. The duck was ok. It had a fair amount of meat. However, it was not seasoned and flavorless before dipping in the hoisin sauce. We would not order it again. The Moo Shu Lamb was delicious. It had a fair amount of juicy, tender, lean lamb. We will definitely order it again. Update: Got the lunch specials; Fish with Spicy Black Bean Sauce, Fish with Spinach, and the Kung Pao Scallops. Everything was very delicious, however the number of scallops was less than expected. Update: Got the Moo Shu Lamb entree and the Lamb with pickled cabbage lunch special. Both were excellent. Update: Got the Moo Shu Lamb entree and the Lamb with Cumin entree. The Moo Shu was excellent and the Cumin Lamb was very good. Update: Got the Moo Shu Lamb. It was excellent. *There is now a $1.50/person charge for hot tea.* Update: Got the Moo Shu Lamb entree, 3 Flavors Wonton Soup, and Beef Stew. Everything was excellent.

Ma’s is always such a go to for me for authentic, delicious Chinese food — I adore their rich beef stew noodle soup, beef rolls, green onion sesame bread, moo-shu chicken, and more! Amazing portion sizes for the price as well. The only downside is the service but that won’t stop me from coming back haha!

We ordered three dishes. I think taste is too blend for us. Kung pao chicken felt undercooked. Fried rice was too blend, unsalted. Chaomin was same. Portion size is great! That’s the only thing i liked. Service needs to improve. We didn’t feel welcoming. First impression, the guy with tie, asking me how can he help as if I am kind of there to inquire about something. Overall, service quality is too bad, I would say. May be it was one time during our visit. I don’t complain about pricing, but quality needs to improve.

Great halal Chinese spot with generous portions. The orange chicken was really flavorful, crispy, well sauced, and not overly sweet. The chow mein was equally satisfying and fresh. Portions are large, so it is definitely good value for the price. Service was a little slow, but the food was worth the wait.

Excellent food. A bit short staffed and limited items left to order depending on time of day you go. However the staff is kind of and the food is some of the best Chinese food I had. I’m sorry I couldn’t eat more!! It was my last day in San Diego and had I realized their hours I would have adjusted my work schedule to go every day. That’s how good it is. For non pork eater or vegetarian it’s perfect with tremendous flavor. Must go if you are in San Diego.
