You have to go to Mary’s Cafe. I was visiting Palo Pinto Mountains State Park and after a day of exploring I was craving a hearty meal. Mary’s was perfect. The venue is classic, the air conditioning was cool, the service was great and the food was fantastic. I had Mary’s Special which had two nachos, an enchilada and a taco. It came with chips and salsa as a starter. The quality and quantity was excellent. I saw an article on the wall about their famous chicken fried steak. I expressed my sadness that I had not order it. A few minutes later, my waitress provided a sample. It was delicious. I don’t think that you could go wrong with Mary’s Special or the chicken fried steak. All the staff was super friendly and helpful. 5 stars all around.

Great food. Quality, fresh, flavorful dishes. Generous, ample portions. BIG Hamburgers and HUGE Chicken Fried Steak. Good prices. Friendly staff. Quick service. Busy location, ALL dishes preped and cooked to order Attentive to good customer service. Plenty of parking. Clean restrooms and clean restaurant.

The beans and Cornbread is an excellent choice for a side dish.

We have been wanting to come to this place for sometime after seeing it featured on several different TV shows about Texas restaurants. Finally in the area and had the opportunity to stop in and give it a try. I got the medium sized chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes. It was outstanding and I brought home over half of it. Mary’s Café was very good and far from a disappointment. Highly suggest you stop in if you have time.

Great food and service. Portions are huge. Only thing is you can’t be in a hurry. There’s usually a line to be seated and once you order, it takes a while because the food is cooked to order mean it arrive at the table, hot and fresh. Take your time enjoy enjoy the atmosphere. It’s well worth the wait.

Small town eatery known for massive chicken fried steaks and burgers. The CFS used to be amazing but somehow has declined in taste over the last two times I’ve tried it (new cook or change in cooking style perhaps?). The locals still love it, so maybe it’s my taste buds, again not sure. The service is always A+. Price was $30+ for lunch + a soda. Covered bike parking nearby is a plus.

Definitely worth a stop (or a special trip). Fantastic chicken fried steak, gravy and french fries. I do not know why some other people in the reviews are talking about it being expensive when you account for how much you get. If anything they undersell the amount of food. The large is $32 for the equivalent of about two regular chicken fried steaks, a bowl of gravy and a plate of french fries. The quantity is matched with suburb quality. The steak is tender enough to easily cut with a fork. The chips and salsa are also surprisingly excellent. One of, if not the best chicken fried steak I have ever had.

First off the staff were amazing, food amazing and well worth the 2.5 hour drive to try Mary’s. Best blooming onion I’ve ever had. Cam for the chicken fried steak and it didn’t disappoint.

A friend and I made the trek to Mary’s based on its reputation for having some of the best chicken fried steak in Texas. I know it is a Taylor Sheridan favorite, but I didn’t even bother to a take a picture of the food, as it was so disappointing. And the worst part was the smell from the restrooms into the dining area.

This is the epitome of a small town gem of a restaurant serving up great tasting homestyle food, big portions, and doing so with great, friendly service! The chicken fried steak is no joke. It’s almost more like a giant milanesa, but better. I got the medium, and it was probably one of the largest I’ve ever had. It’s one of the tastiest, too! The meat was sooooo tender, I just needed my fork, and the fries were hot and crispy hand-cut fries. You could tell the gravy was homemade and not out of some packet! My wife’s shrimp were delicious and my daughters “tenders” were huge and tasty. Our server was great and Mary (I’m pretty sure) was walking around checking on all the tables and directing the staff like a conductor at a symphony! We definitely want to come back, even if it’s 4 hours away! Make time to go out of your way to stop here when you’re in the area!

The 3 mile detour off the Interstate is so well worth it. Just serving a huge Chicken Fried Steak is not enough, this one is always tender and with the gravy on the side, it is served the way a CFS should be, not hidden under the gravy.
