I love chasing Friday fish frys to find the best fish all over! A friend highly recommended this and we’re so glad they did! It was busy but we didn’t have to wait for a table at all. Our waitress was quick to come get our drink order and ask if we wanted appetizers. We both had the lobster bisque! Oh my, so creamy, flavorful and full of meat! And the cup is the size of a small bowl! My friend has the beer battered walleye with mashed potatoes and gravy. Her piece of walleye was massive! Potatoes were fabulous and I’m not even a potato person. I chose the bluegill with wild rice. Wow! The fresh blue gill was flaky, light and wonderful! I wasn’t a huge fan of the wild rice, but I’m bougie about wild rice. I thought the coleslaw was great but my bestie didn’t love it. She’s just not a fan of a sweeter coleslaw. To each their own. We had amazing, tentative service and we both can’t wait to go back for the perch and cod! The prices were fabulous for the amount of food you get and the freshness! We will definitely be recommending this place to others! Mary’s Bluegill Bar & Grill just made my top 5 for fish fry!!

We’ve been looking for a really good Fish Fry Friday place, and Mary’s Bluegill Bar certainly didn’t let us down. The Lobster Bisque was very good and full of meat. Honestly, I don’t know how they make any money on it. You get a regular sized bowl for the price of a cup. We got onion rings as well. They are very large rings and well breaded, but not over- breaded like a lot of them are these days. I ordered the perch platter, which I got with French fries and coleslaw. The perch pieces were about 4 inches long and lightly breaded. Very tasty. The French fries were close to shoestring size and well done. No sogginess to them. The coleslaw was pretty good, but by far the last important or impressive part of the meal. My wife got the wallet filet, deep fried and said it was better than our other favorite dish fry place. So that’s a big plus for The Bluegill Bar. She got it with fried baby red potatoes and said they were very good. We’ll be going back to try other items from their menu, but be aware the servings are very generous and you’ll fill up fast.
There is a very spacious dining room in the back of you don’t want to eat at the bar. There are also several pill tables and other bar games.

Nice size bar. Came here to eat was very disappointed, not much of a selection, very limited. It tasted ok, nothing special. It looked better than it tasted. Even the Margarita I ordered tasted of, not good.
Now this place has pool tables, slots and arcade games. So I will try it again at one point without the food next time.

A Saturday about 2 PM, wall-to-wall people and only two bartenders. The entire dining area was empty and unstained. A regular parade of people coming through the door looking to eat and being told the wait on food orders was 35-45 minutes. We left, along with about a dozen others. It was a nice looking menu but there was no staff onhand.

Friday fish fry was great. We had both the perch and bluegill platters and the fish was fantastic. Just the right amount of breading on the fish. Choice of potatoes included baked along with options of fries or mashed with gravy. Along with coleslaw the meal left nothing for want. I recommend an early arrival to avoid a waiting time. It’s a very popular Friday supper location.

We visited while on vacation in Birchwood. It’s a bar like any other, did have gambling machines, pool tables. Full bar, food was pretty good. Waitress was great. Definitely seemed like a locals bar.
