Not sure what’s up with some of the bad reviews…I think this place is wonderful. I went recently with my partner for our anniversary (my second time visiting). We both got the steak frites which were well worth the $45. Perhaps, the best meal I’ve ever had at a restaurant. The steak was beautifully cooked and tender and the demi glace was so tasty! Really loved the fries and the rosemary aioli it came with. Would come back just for this dish! Keep it on the menu forever, please! The service was excellent and I like that it tends to be a more mature crowd at the restaurant. Great atmosphere for date night or a quiet lunch with a friend. On my previous visit I had the short rib shepard’s pie, was a great, hearty winter meal.

We have gone to Marygolds on many occasions with great food, drinks and atmosphere. Today we went back for the first time in over a year, and unfortunately, the quality has gone down. The eggs Benedict was very salty and there was an overwhelming slice of ham on it. And the burgers had stiff bacon, hard meat and didn’t have elements like the caramelized onions (changes that have not been reflected in the menu). We asked and the chef hasn’t changed but sadly the quality has.

I have been coming to Marygold’s on Main for various events and meals since they opened and every visit is as exceptional as the last. I’ve been to weddings, dinner parties, tea parties, etc and they have all been phenomenal. Brunch is definitely my favorite; the corn flake French toast is out of this world. The food and craft cocktails are always excellent and they even have a great variety of mocktails to choose from too. I’ve been to one of the high tea events they have thrown and it was fantastic. Such a fun and unique idea to do with friends and family. I could not recommend trying this place enough if you ever find yourself in the Newtown area!

My wife and I had an incredible experience hosting our wedding reception at Marygold’s this past September. We have been longtime customers of Foundry Kitchen and Tavern and Good Old Days Pizza, naturally we were thrilled to host at Marygold’s!
For starters, the reception space is beautiful. Being a historic Newtown landmark, every room is full of charm. There is an enormous bridal suite upstairs that my wife had access to from early morning, all the way until the wedding ended. It provided ample space for getting ready and was a convenient space to touch up as the night progressed. We hosted cocktail hour in the bar room and foyer before welcoming guests into the dining room. We loved having separate spaces throughout the night. Each room has a modern flare while still providing a warm and comfortable ambiance thanks to it’s history as an Inn.
The food, as always, was top notch. Months later we are still hearing the praises from our guests! Countless people have said it was the best food they’ve ever enjoyed at a wedding. Each passed hors d’oeuvres was better than the next – and they passed until people were full! No need to worry about standing by the kitchen door to ensure you actually get food here – there was plenty to go around! The most difficult part of our wedding was choosing entrees – the tasting we had weeks prior to the wedding was full of delectable options! The pasta, salad and entree courses we chose were all spot on. We added an ice cream bar for after hours that was a hit as well!
Lastly, the service was impeccable! All of the staff was attentive without being overbearing. You never wanted for anything – everybody was professional and kind.
A special thank you to Christy, our event director, who made sure that the whole day went off without a hitch. She had been working with us right from our initial inquiry and was there by our side until the end of the wedding. She was there for my wife all day – helping with hair touch ups, escorting her to the church and making sure everting was just right for her throughout the day.
Marygold’s is a real treasure to Newtown and we look forward to watching them continue to grow!

Food quality / price (value) rating 10. The atmosphere is an 1890’s mansion built as a private home, and from 1910’s onward was an inn and restaurant eventually evolving into it’s latest incarnation of classical formal dining and art deco fusion with Wainscoting. There is a wonderfully warm seating area by the entrance, perfect for pre-dinner socializing. It’s a fairly casual place, with an upper crust vibe. This was our first visit here. We had the impression that it was an expensive place, but that’s not the case. The quality of the food, the presentations, and the service were excellent, and reasonably priced. The wife had a house special cocktail called “Strawberry Blond” , and I had a “Hawley’s Other Garden” cocktail, served with a large fruit infused cube-shaped “popsicle” I’ll call it. We started by splitting the Baked Stuffed Clams that were some of the best I’ve ever eaten and we will come back here even if it’s kust for those. I had the Marigold’s Salad with Steak, covered with shaved parmesan. Wonderful! The wife had the Radicchio and Squash salad, also incredible . We split an order of “Tallow” (rendered from steak fat) fries, which were a refreshing, subtle change of what you think fries are about. They offer a limited, but well chosen number of draught beers. The owner and Chef, Clark, is typically on site, and is a seasoned, experienced restauranteur. Our server, Ryan, was super attentive and made our visit smooth and fulfilling . They’re open Tuesday through Sundays for dinner, and they serve lunch on Fridays. Highly recommended!

Very pretty and comfortable setting right on Main Street with a cozy atmosphere. Fast and efficient service, but there were only two of us and we got a croque monsieur and madame. Those two dishes with a side of avocado each, and one side of bacon with a diet Pepsi and an iced tea… came to $58 without tip, proving it’s impossible to get a modest meal at a reasonable price. Also, for a Saturday lunch you should not only have a brunch menu.

Wonderful dining experience. The dining room itself is lovely with a beautiful long bar on the far wall. The amazingly delicious and creative cocktails were a real standout. Everything we ate was exceptional. Service was professional and warm. We will definitely be back.

Our server was prompt, courteous and knowledgeable about the menu which was eclectic for both food and beverage. We each had a different entree and each were excellent. Very enjoyable dining experience.
The only thing i can be “critical” of (but would not prevent me from going back) is that it is very loud in the dining room, perhaps acoustic tiles in the ceiling would help.

Wonderful experience! Very attentive and hospitable service with a smile (under a mask) and we loved every dish. Braised short ribs and crab salad app were delicious. Only negatives: was a little loud (but what good restaurant isn’t) and a little pricey so check the menu beforehand and you decide.
Update: still great food and service for sure. Gazpacho was excellent. They’ve added acoustic tiles so the noise level is much better. Great cocktails with Buffalo Trace! Only ding is the tables are a bit small and hard to fit all the plates, waters, drinks, etc. on a 2 person. Still 5 stars.
