What surprised me was the Veg Up section on the menu with low carb options. I am not sure if that is new or unique to this location, but I tried the chicken paitan from that section and it was honestly excellent. Instead of noodles, it came with a flavorful broth over cabbage, loaded with mushrooms, green onions, sprouts, tender chicken, and a soft boiled egg that made the whole bowl feel hearty and wholesome. It did not feel like a compromise at all.
We also tried the vegetarian ramen, which was rich, comforting, and packed with vegetables and tofu. Flavorful without being heavy.
The space is quite spacious yet still bustling and nearly full, which shows how popular it is. The wait was very reasonable though, around ten minutes before we were seated.
Overall, this location absolutely lives up to the name. I would definitely recommend it.
We ordered:
1. Gyoza: Crunchy and flavorful
2. Takoyaki: My niece loved this and literally scraped the plate.
3. Kakuni bowl: This was soft and tender. It was nicely marinated. I kind of wished you get more than 1 piece. My niece had rice left over.
4. Hakata Tonkatsu deluxe: This was delicious on the semi cold afternoon. So hearty and flavorful.
I can’t wait to come back soon. Highly recommend this place.
It was rich and creamy but still felt clean and balanced, not overly heavy. The shrimp tempura bao was just as impressive.
I’ll start with the things I liked. The service was super attentive. It’s the little things that count, like greeting you as you walk in and thanking you as you leave, ensuring orders are correct, even kneeling down to take a request from a younger customer. Everything the staff did made us feel welcome and cared for. The atmosphere was great, mostly calm and intimate with dimly lighting, but there were also tables in brighter areas. They had a wide range of seating, and everything from the utensils to the bowls to the menus was clean, modern, and high quality.
I ordered an ultra spicy Hakata Tonkatsu, and it was amazing. Last time I came to Marufuku, I had the Spicy Tantan Men, and it was not as good as this. The bowl seemed small at first, but by the time I was completely full, there was still some soup left! As a spice lover, the spice taste was on point. I wish I had asked them what they used for spice, honestly.
Unfortunately, the few things I don’t like about Marufuku has to do with the food. The noodles are way too small/thin. Me and my brother agreed on this. It just didn’t match the quality of the soup or other ingredients. The chashu pork, while okay, was too chewy and small for my liking. I also think their menu could use a little more variety. Hinodeya offers almost everything they have here, and more. You also have the pretty high prices, but most ramen places of this caliber are the same.
Overall, the negatives are mostly personal preferences, and will probably be negligible for you. I’m still happy you took the time to read my rambling, anyway. You’ll leave Marufuku feeling nothing less but satisfaction, I guarantee it! Overall, 4/5.
I ordered the Hakata Tonkotsu DX ramen – ULTRA SPICY. The reason I didn’t give this place 5 stars is because their Ultra Spicy at best is medium spicy at other restaurants. Nonetheless, the ramen was very flavorful and bursting with flavor. The chashu pork was tender and rich and the boiled egg was cooked perfectly with a nice gooey interior.
The pirikara chicken bites (steamed buns) were also very good. A little too much sauce for my liking because it was dripping everywhere with every bit but still very tasty. Little less sauce and those things are perfect. The chicken was as crisp as you can get it while still keeping the chicken moist and juicy. Highly recommend!
