Had the chicken fried steak and subbed the hash browns and toast for biscuits and gravy because I’m still on a mission to find the best. The food was great. The biscuits were delicious. I think it might have been the best I had or at the top 3. The chicken fried steak was also delicious, but not quite as good as Country Cousins in Centralia – still amazing though.

Martin Way Diner feels like the kind of place that wants to be comforting, the sort of small-town spot where families laugh over mashed potatoes while Christmas music plays softly in the background. And to be fair, the atmosphere mostly delivers on that. Kids giggling, a cheerful hum in the air, and a waitress whose beautiful singing voice echoes through the dining room like something from another era. It all makes the place feel almost cinematic.
But the food… the food had a harder time meeting that warmth.
I ordered the meatloaf with corn and mashed potatoes, gravy on the side. It came with a roll, butter, and a cup of turkey noodle vegetable soup. The soup was simple and uninspiring but still somehow heart warming and very salty in a way I didn’t mind. The gravy was genuinely good, flavorful and heavy, exactly how diner gravy should taste.
Everything else struggled.
The meatloaf arrived oddly cold despite being freshly delivered. It wasn’t terrible, just incredibly bland. The mashed potatoes had a strange, almost bitter edge I couldn’t quite describe. And the corn tasted so unmistakably canned that even salt couldn’t rescue it.
A few small things added to the awkwardness. No one greeted me for the first few seconds, which made walking in feel a little like intruding. I was seated in a quieter part of the diner, which meant plates didn’t get cleared and check-ins were rare. This actually didn’t bother me since I enjoy a peaceful meal, but the flies circling my plate definitely did.
The bathroom was surprisingly clean and well kept, just very narrow. They serve Pepsi products, not Coke if that matters to anyone.
What really redeemed the experience was the waitress. She was kind, informed, and clearly cared about her work. When she finally checked on me and asked how everything was, I decided to be honest that it wasn’t quite my jam. Without hesitation she said I didn’t need to pay for it. I insisted, but she refused because she didn’t want me spending money on something I didn’t enjoy. That level of decency is rare and genuinely classy.
Martin Way Diner has heart. The atmosphere is warm, the people are kind, and there were moments that felt genuinely sweet. The food, though, needs a little more love to match the soul of the place. Still, I’m glad I went. Sometimes experiences stick with you for reasons beyond the meal.

Love coming to this diner! The food is always great, the welcoming committee is as real as it gets, and the only place I know that serves oysters for breakfast and liver and onions for dinner. Both of which deserve compliments to the chef! Shawna was a blessing and can’t wait to eat here again

This place was hopping. On a positive note, the food came out hot, the breading for chicken fried steak was one of the best I’ve ever had, and waitress was great. The negative!!! I could barely find the meat for chicken fried steak. With no exaggeration, it was as thin as my thumbnail. Give me some meat please! I asked for extra crispy hash browns and they were moist on inside. The eggs were cooked on too high of heat. The kind where the whites are wrong and crispy with craters. The sausage gravy was just ok. Very little sausage. They are known for huge portions, so that could be why they are popular. I do not like righting bad reviews, but could not get over the ultra thin steak.

The best part was the service. Aside from that, my fiancé and I both didn’t enjoy the food.It seems like they don’t care about the food they’re putting out. His steak was (sorry)disgusting and rubber, hash browns full of dirty oil, bacon was rock soild, and my French toast was sub par for a $65 bill. There was nothing fresh or homemade about it. We even got a side of food poisoning to take home with us ☺️. With that large of a menu I can only imagine the cross contamination that happens. I just can’t comprehend honestly how gross the food was, this was a disappointing experience.

There were no tables available to sit at when we got there as there was not enough staff to clear and clean them. We waited 20 plus minutes to get a table, then once we sat down it was another 20 minutes to get a menu. The food was plentiful but the service left room for MUCH improvement. They are clearly understaffed for the amount of tables they have. The waitress was super unfriendly and clearly overworked and her attitude showed it! She never smiled one time. We were not given a glass of water nor the menu once seated for 20 minutes. The food was delicious but not worth the wait and certainly not worth the unfriendly attitude from the staff!

Ordered meatloaf dinner and a double bacon burger. The burger was good, a little messy though. Bun stayed fresh, not soggy. Tots were delicious and crispy. Website says dinners come with choice of potato and a green salad or soup. I ordered salad. Says nothing about a roll on the menu but was asked if we wanted a roll for the meatloaf while ordering takeout, we said yes. Never got the roll. The salad, I asked for no tomatoes, it came as lettuce mix with red cabbage and carrots and shredded cheese, I was surprised that’s all it came with, but it was fine, overall. The meatloaf came with a very small scoop of mashed potatoes and zucchini, much to my surprise, and a lot of meatloaf. The menu mentioned nothing about two sides/a vegetable. The quality of ground beef used in the meatloaf was not good. Lots of huge pieces of gristle found and I only ate one piece of it so far. Also, I would have rather had two scoops of mashed potatoes if I had known they gave me so little instead of having an additional side. I’ve only eaten about 1/3 of them, the scoop was like 3 inches wide, maybe? The zucchini was okay, very wet, and unexpected, as mentioned. I’d like to try their breakfast to see if it’s better.

Martin diner offers a low key experience, while providing excellent food and service. Great place for a casual conversation and top notch diner food. The hashbrown are standard but the farm cut potatoes, O’Brian or standard are the best I’ve ever had. Crisp exterior, soft interior, not greasy, absolutely delicious. Splurged on the sirloin, and my companion the pork chops. Each with three eggs. A plate full of food. Ample serving size made for Breakfast in house, plus two more at home. The toast is good too. Coffee vastly better than most restaurants, and the bloody Mary’s are spectacular, nicely adorned but not outlandish. They don’t hold back on the vodka, so consume wisely. We had a designated driver. The service is special in that it is hometown friendly, comfy and with efficiency of well seasoned wait people. Outstanding!
This place is popular so plan to spend some wait time. Well worth it.

I have been in this area for going on 5 years. This is the first time I ate here. The atmosphere was calm as you could expect the clientele those you would expect to see in a diner in the early part of the morning on a Monday. The service was delightful. Made sure I had water make sure I was taken care of and for the first time since I’ve moved here somebody cooked my eggs correctly. Thank you! I enjoyed this meal immensely
