Vacation is an outdoor dining concept by Chef Chad Gauss located next to The Food Market Columbia. We take great pride in our inclusive and positive work environment. We love seeing our staff grow into new roles, while remaining true to their passions, styles and goals. We are thrilled to have another restaurant in Howard County because the people are wonderful and the community is welcoming. We seat on a first come, first served basis. If you are planning a visit to Merriweather, please be sure to leave ample time before the show to enjoy your dining experience. We are also open post-show time.

My first time visiting this location was on 10/27/24 and I wasn’t disappointed. I appreciated that because the establishment was outdoors they offered heaters to keep patrons warm and had the restaurant enclosed. The waiter George was super nice and attentive. My family and I ordered the crab dip, the bougie hash browns, the tempura French toast, the mushroom omelet and the bacon egg and cheese grilled cheese. The only reason why I’m giving the establishment 4/5 stars is because I found what appeared to be a hair in the fried tempura batter of the French toast. But, the staff was super helpful in replacing my order immediately. The prices of the food were definitely e than reasonable and I plan to definitely return the near future.

Vacation is a cute outdoor only spot right by the food market. My husband and I already loved the food market so we knew we would probably like this place.
We got the calamari to share which came with a rice vinegar sauce instead of the typical tartar, which was fun. Overall the fry on the food was super great for both the calamari and my fried fish basket.
The birria tacos were incredible, the consommé was delicious and the meat was tender. They were Mexican husband approved!
We definitely want to come back to try more stuff on the menu.

Can these people prepare anything well besides the watermelon? This “drink” right here is $12. Non alcoholic, supposedly with kiwi, strawberry etc. Tasted like two gulps of $2 redbull – on a good day. WHAT.

The $22 chicken skewer – these people absolutely can’t cook. Meat was cooked separately from the very spicy sauce. It literally tastes like something you attempted to make at home and failed. Miserably. The best part was the watermelon. I can’t taste anything else because my taste buds were obliterated here.

My friend said the best part of her fish basket was the tartar sauce. Fries were super overdone. She “ate grease”, and we just went to the glory days for fish baskets the other day.

We came here for an early Mother’s day brunch. Mom had the crab dip toast, kids had the chicken fingers, and I had the bougie hash browns! We sat on the porch and it was beautiful. Great service food and environment.

I LOVED this place. With it being a new restaurant and having minimal reviews, I decided to try it out myself.
First- the vibe is awesome and I thoroughly enjoyed the music.
Second- Our server, D, was a great energy and excellent in telling us about the menu and his recommendations did not disappoint which leads me to…
Third- The food. We shared the fried green tomatoes and I wasn’t sure how I would like them since I have never had them before but with the sauce and the lump crab that came on top…it was delicious. I got the lobster fingers which came with garlic bread, coleslaw, AND fries. Very filling. The lobster fingers were good and so was the coleslaw. The fries were greasy, maybe from the lobster on top, so I didn’t eat those.
Fourth- The drinks. We got the Woah-se and Pier Pressure and they were both really good and I didn’t feel like they were skimping on the alcohol.
Overall, you can tell they are trying to figure out what works and what doesn’t as a new restaurant. But this might be my new regular spot!

The atmosphere is definitely giving vacation vibes. From the music to the service to the outdoor seating.

The managers and everyone else was super friendly!

Free parking at the garage directly next to it.
Stroller friendly to enter the platform where the seating is. Not so much from the garage (but this isn’t on Vacation).

The bathrooms are nice and cool. Very clean! And for my parents, the second bathroom has a nice clean changing table inside (look for the koala sticker on the door).

NOW for the food and drinks

We had the Pina Colada Crush. If you like ginger beer, this is a good one! It’s cool, light, and refreshing.

For appetizers, we ordered the crispity, crunchity, sweet spicy, sesame, scalliony chicken wings (not bad!), the crab dip egg rolls (also not bad (I appreciate the spin on the dish!!).

For entrees, we had the ribs (delicious and super tender ). This one came with fries (that remind me of boardwalk fries), a pickle, coleslaw (I was impressed) and a sauce that tastes pretty good.
Also had the brick smashed burger (didn’t hate it didn’t love it), fries, coleslaw, and a pickle.

This was a nice spot to swing by and try. I recommend it!

I’ll be trying The Food Market next time I’m by Columbia Mall.

Love that Columbia is expanding its restaurant scene and Vacations definitely fits the bill if you’re looking for outdoors, comfy seating, great food and service.

We arrived pretty early on a Tues and it was ample amount of seats, but as we were leaving it had gotten pretty crowded. Believe it’s first come, first serve but reservations are accept inside at True Food.

All and all, will return to check out scene on a Friday or Sat evening.

BTW, my first drink came not so full, but the second which was made by another bartender came pretty full.

Came here on a Saturday night. I like that it’s an extension of the restaurant next to it, with the same menu—that was smart. The pros: the bathrooms were clean, and it was more than two. Also, the drinks were good. The caramel Wicked Apple was delicious. The cons: we kept waiting for our waiter for a while, and our food was not great. I don’t understand the menu! Is it Americanized Mexican food? I’m confused. The nachos were good, but the fish tacos had too much stuff on them. How can I enjoy this if I take it home? There were a lot of toppings, and the tortillas were soggy the next day. It was a lot going on there. My boyfriend did not like his birria. He gave them to me. I didn’t like them either, even after I added mozzarella and put them in the air fryer. The birria and the broth are sweet. As I was eating them, I was thinking, Why does this taste sweet? I would come back for the drinks, but not for the food.

The food is so bland and mid, but price is crazy. I’m shocked because it’s owned by the same person who owns food market and their food is amazing. This tasted like something I would make in college. The Barria sauce tasted like bbq, the pork unseasoned. It was disappointing honestly just go next door. I have no problem paying similar prices or a little more for better food next door. Also 18 for two alfredo-esq crab dip egg rolls…i really just don’t understand how this menu ended up the way it is…there have to be different chefs than when the menu has its pre-opening tasting. Disappointed.
