First off the chocolate chip cookies were great. I also got the cinnamon roll it looked really good. Got it home and heated it up 20 secs first few bites was good. Then I bit into just straight raw dough. So disappointing to spend $4 or $5 for one cinnamon and not have a fully cooked one. Just one u had to throw into the trash. The grilled cheese was good. I got the 3 cheese one but it wasnt very big just normal size but yet it cost $9 for it. Like it was good but not worth $9. I dont think ill go back again

Was on a road trip from Huntsville, Alabama and found this gem in downtown Portsmouth. This restaurant has kept its historical charm! My father, my grandmother, and I loved the atmosphere!! The staff were top notch and the food was excellent!! Thank you all!!

One of the best spots in Portsmouth hands down, I have lunch here at least twice a week. The food is spectacular but the customer service is even better. After maybe 20 correct orders in the span of a few months, I had a mix up today on sandwiches. They graciously remade it to give me the correct sandwich and even packed in a cookie in my remade order. The extra effort is something you don’t get everywhere, and it was appreciated.

Delightful cafe serving excellent coffee, made-daily baked goods and delicious food. Perfect place to cozy up and enjoy fresh sandwiches, salads and homemade soups. Friendly staff and historical charm give major Gilmore Girl vibes. Love this little gem and always swing by when in town.

This was the worse place I’ve ever eaten. I thought the reviews would mean it was good, but they must have been written by friends and family. First when we walked in there’s no sign that says to seat yourself so we stood there for several minutes. Then we sat and sat and sat until someone brought us menus. The menu is ridiculous and horribly overpriced ($13 for a simple sandwich and a small handful of cheap chips.) The tuna sandwich I ordered was dry and there was nothing in it. It was like a child stirred a tiny amount of mayo into tuna and put it on a tiny piece of bread that was supposed to be toasted but wasn’t. I regret leaving a tip. Oh and atmosphere was also bad. There were giant paint swatches all over the walls and the people working there looked miserable.

The café has really lost it’s charm since the new owner took over. Sad to see. You can tell the owner doesn’t know what he’s doing.

Atmosphere was relaxing, food was absolutely amazing. The Lunch Club is definitely a 10/10. Great staff, very friendly. We will return in future for the breakfast.

Updating review:
Summer of 2024 this restaurant was purchased by another family after the originals decided to retire. The menu is updated with adding some items and keeping popular items. This is the epitome of a cafe with lunch items, smoothies, coffee, etc. My favorite items are the Chicken/Pesto/Mushroom Panini with cheese on Rye bread. My second favorite is the turkey crunch wrap with extra lettuce on a spinach wrap. Each item comes with a pickle and potato chips or sub for fruit. For beverages, they have coffee, latte, iced coffee, variety of cans of pop, smoothies, fresh brewed iced tea and hot tea. My mom loves the unsweetened tea. You can order an item to go, eat outside, or sit inside at a table for table service. They have pastries they make as well, including the yummy cinnamon roll, baklava, cookies, blondie bars, etc. They have a soup of the day made in-store. They have started doing a Dinner Friday with a set menu for 4 courses. There is 2 restrooms inside. The only thing I would adjust is to have pretzels as an option for the side or sunchips. I would also ask the employees to wear a business shirt so you can tell they work there.
I hope they buy local produce from the local farmers’ this next season.

We tried the Rueben panini, the California Turkey panini, and the Chicken Mandarin Crunch Wrap. They all came with kettle chips. Everything was fresh and delicious except the corned beef didn’t have much flavor/ unseasoned.
The bathrooms were clean and well stocked.
The service was minimal but they were very busy.
