So we were in Galena for 4 days. There are a good amount of places but we loved this one so much we ended up eating there three times. That chicken is amazing. I live next to Chicago so I have plenty of options and this is right up there with them but without the steep price tag (for the amount you get, it’s very reasonable) and it feels like you are in your mom’s/grandma’s kitchen, and who doesn’t love that? The staff are great. Super friendly (I kept hearing the Cheers themesong in my head) and hilarious. The night we got dessert my mom didn’t want any but my dad did so she asked if he wanted an extra spoon, to which he replied it will be the wife portion. She came back with the regular dessert and a mini version with a tiny spoon. She gave that to my dad and gave the regular sized one to my mom. Needless to say we were all dying in laughter. This is why this place is great.

The food was alright. I wouldn’t say it was over the top. For the quality, the prices were really reasonable. We went for breakfast and I would like to try their lunch or dinner because that does look better. The place is older, but is clean. Has great views of the Main Street. Our service was nice as well and fast.

Great lunch spot! Chicken salad on croissant has a very unique flavor with not a lot of mayo which I loved! BLT was loaded with bacon. Chargrilled burger was quickly devoured! Homemade chicken ‘n dumplings was yummy! Quick service!

The atmosphere was excellent, prices great for the area and our food was amazing! I had the ribeye, it was cooked perfectly, the mashed potatoes are homemade, which will make or break me! I have enough leftover for another meal. my husband said the blue cheese dressing was the best he’s EVER had. We will definitely be back next time we are in the area. Great job guys! Thanks!!!

Climb a steep set of stairs and turn right where a closed door holds a sign saying you arrived. Friday at 5:30 pm in downtown Galena, no place to park, so busy outside, and this place is all but dead. Should have been a clue to turn and run. But a couple down at the front entrance had just left and said the food was great. Now I wonder if they were related to the owner. I wanted something simple, so I ordered a cheese sandwich with potato salad. First off, I never saw a sandwich that looked like someone sat on it, but it was what was served me. Second, the potato salad had an odd taste. I’m not sure what was in it, so I decided not to eat it. Totally and woefully underwhelmed. $25 for two and leaving hungry.

We had a great time. The goulash was delicious, although it needed a bit more salt and pepper. The waitress was friendly and the atmosphere was great. We had a good time and it was the perfect cure for the nightlife we endured before. I would definitely come here again! Thanks for the memories!

The good-
The server was very friendly and helpful. This is the only thing that deserves any stars. The salad would have been good but was drenched in water.
The bad-
The stairway going up to the restaurant needs a good scrubbing. The grime on the rails is enough to make you turn around.
The picture is what I got ordering a half slab of ribs. All discernible moisture was removed from these ribs.
My husband had what was supposed to be chicken pot pie. All potatoes and a few peas. No discernible chicken and bland. The puff pastry on top was under done.
The homemade potato chips were cold and soggy.
Very disappointing.

This place was recommended by a few locals that we asked for a good place to eat. If you enter from the front you will climb the stairs to the second floor. Very interesting older buildings in Galena. Good view if you sit by the windows of main street. We had the appetizer platter and everything was fresh made. The fried cauliflower was the best I have had! The salads came with homade dressing and were very good. My wife had pasta that was made fresh and I had the 1/2 fried chicken. Batter was very good and chicken was good. Reason four 4 stars was the chicken was the smallest 1/2 chicken I have ever seen. Very good but very small portion.
