If you think of where to get a salmon sandwich near Pike Place, Market Grill usually pops up as the top option. So I was pretty interested in trying it out when I went over.

I would say it’s good, but nothing mindblowing.
The salmon is certainly fresh, grilled well, and cooked to the right amount. I would call it a bit under-seasoned, as some salt was missing, and it seemed to be a pretty lean piece as I didn’t taste much fat coming from it. The fillet was pretty meaty on either half though

The bread was decent as well – not chewy, and relatively soft on the inside. The mayo helped with the moisture and added good flavor, but I think a spread of cream cheese would’ve worked better here. There’s a reason why that combination is so famous – the two items work well together. I liked the caramelized onions at least.

It’s pretty expensive – you’ll end up paying over 25 bucks if you order this. Based on the salmon you can get elsewhere in the city, this is definitely a tourist price that I don’t think is worth it.

Overall, it’s a decent sandwich, but I think there are a lot of better places in the area. 7.25/10

We were looking for this place while walking pass it 3 times at least…

Glad we finally saw it, and yes! The chowder was amazing! They gave us so many croutons and grilled bread was really good too!

The workers were super passionate, and they have a world travel pin board, it was very fun to look through it.

Would definitely come back here again!

Imagine this:

BLARING ALARM

You wake up bleary eyed and still half dreaming, the alarm clock says 5am. You rush out the door and drive panicky to the airport. After a long flight you land in the emerald city – Seattle.

Rental car, traffic, honking, and noise!

You shove your way through the crowds and find yourself here – at Market Grill.

The cheery and fun servers take your order with a smile and make a personal connection immediately. They offer you a couple of seats with a front row view of the action. Heavenly smells and warmth from the fire grill caressing your face. They call your name and serve you their signature blackened salmon sandwich. One bite and you get it. You get why this is a pike place staple. Everything is right in the world and your heart fills with love.

Happy Valentine’s Day to the folks at Market Grill <3

After searching for bacon-free chowder, we discovered Market Grill and returned 3 times in 1 week, and each visit brought exceptional service from different staff members.

The chowder and stew are absolutely delicious. As someone from Istanbul, Turkey, I have high standards for fish sandwiches (our street sandwiches are legendary), and I genuinely love their blackened salmon sandwich. The fish of the day sandwich was equally impressive.

Regarding concerns about ‘soggy’ bread:
I’m particular about texture, and I didn’t find the sandwiches soggy at all. Plus, you can always request no sauce if preferred.

While seating is limited, the wait is worthwhile. There’s something special about enjoying your soup while soaking in the warm, family-like atmosphere. The staff handles even difficult customers with remarkable patience and kindness.

A personal note: We used to have a family tradition of visiting a small-town diner regularly since my stepson was five. When it closed, we were genuinely sad. After our first visit to Market Grill, my stepson (now a preteen) asked if this could be “the new diner.” When a kid gives that kind of endorsement, you know it’s 10/10.

I am not sure how this place got 4.6 stars to be honest. Maybe it was better in the past, but it’s very mediocre at best. We had the blackened salmon. The fish was well cooked but seasoning was very mild. The onions added no flavour. It was too wet and the bread was soggy. Overall, not sure what the hype is about. If you want to say you tried this fish, go for it – but don’t expect anything exciting.

Service was friendly and kind, that I’ll give 5 stars.

We stopped here for lunch and everything we ordered was fresh and delicious. My wife got the seafood stew which was gluten-free and I got the fillet special with coleslaw. The sourdough bread that came with the meal was also delicious grilled to perfection. Not a lot of seating in the area and it can get busy and loud, but that is what you expect when it’s in Pike Place.

Super fresh and delicious! Totally worth the price!
We order one salmon & prawns both with platter which with brown rice, salad and grill bread.
They use big fire to roast the sea food without any source which have the seafood fresh flavor jump out! The staffs are so nice.
They have only a few bar seats but you can take out and there are lots of places to sit down to eat. Recommend to go Water front view point seating area inside the market and a few steps from Market Grill! A corner window sea view is awesome.

Stopped by today (7/2/25) at 2:30PM. There was a line but I was expecting that and that’s usually a good sign. The line moved fast for only having three workers. I ordered the small 6 oz Clam Chowder and the Blackened Salmon Sandwich totaling $32 (with tax) plus a tip on top of that. The chowder was good and I ate all of it but I’ve also had better. It had more of a “pot pie soup” color and taste than the usual creamy white chowder you normally see. The salmon Sammy was good. First time ordering a salmon sandwich. Usually I eat my salmon with rice or veggies. Surprisingly this salmon Sammy was good. Had a nice flavor combination from the onions, lettuce, tomatoes, and rosemary mayo. It went well with the grilled bread. I’d order the sandwich again. However I felt that $23 just for a sandwich (didn’t come with slaw on the side) was expensive considering the salmon wasn’t a huge size. If you want more food for your buck I think you’re better off ordering the salmon platter which comes with slaw, rice, salad and garlic bread for $23. The guy at taking orders was extremely nice and efficient. He kept the line moving. The lady cook on the grill didn’t mess around. Straight face all business but you can tell she’s a bad ass. She was serving up them orders like hot cakes. And there was a food prep guy in the back chopping and prepping to keep the ingredients coming. It’s a very small establishment with minimal seating. I ended up taking my order to go and ate it in my hotel room because I was pressed on time to catch a flight. Overall, great service, good atmosphere, and good food. I’ll be back again!

So we were fortunate enough to come by this place because when we arrived to the marketplace it was during the transition from lunch time to dinner time. Meaning that a lot of the restaurants were starting to close in order to get themselves ready for again the next set of patrons at night.

The service was great, the person behind the register really helped us understand what were the popular items of the grill and even gave her a recommendation to make sure that we each got our own clam chowder because it is what they were known for.

We also decided to grab a prawn sandwich and salmon sandwich. Of the two of them we actually enjoyed the prawn sandwich more because the seasoning really enhanced the freshness of the shrimp. The salmon sandwich was good, for us though it did need a little bit more seasoning after having the comparison of the prawn sandwich.

The one call out regarding the atmosphere is you are definitely going to be seeing a lot of foot traffic which means a lot of fun people watching. The one thing that was a little hard for me was being so close to a fish market/fish stand. In general it would not have been such a distraction with the smell, but again we arrive when things are starting to shut down so they were hosing down and using a bit of cleaning products to get the area disinfected. So that smell did throw off my appetite just a little bit.

Would definitely come back here because that chowder was amazing and we really enjoyed the prawn sandwich.
