09/12/25 – Wife & I were traveling up the east coast with a stop that day in Chambersburg, PA. Stayed at a local Holiday Inn Express and this restaurant was only blocks away. Old time ‘real’ Italian restaurant… family owned… Italian was spoken! Grandson Jeremiah was our waiter… he was terrific! I had an Antipasto Salad and Small Pizza… my wife had a Specialty Pasta dish. We both raved about these items. If we come back through this area, we will definitely go again!

The manicotti was very good. No complaints about tje crab cake. The 12” pizza? Almost 2” of plain crust and the toppings were minimal where there were any. I’m all for light sauce but minimal is absolutely accurate. If there was a 1/2 cup of total toppings on this, I’d be amazed. We got the ham & pineapple 12” pizza. Very disappointing but what was there was tasty.

My partner and I visited Mario’s in Chambersburg for a takeout dinner last evening, ordering the Rigatoni Alla Vodka, Lasagna, and Maryland Crab Soup. While the soup was palatable, the pasta dishes were mediocre and lacked the depth of flavor expected from an established Italian eatery.
Far more concerning, however, was our physical reaction to the meal. By morning, both of us were suffering from acute gastrointestinal distress, including nausea, lethargy, and severe bloating. Given this experience, I cannot in good conscience recommend Mario’s to those seeking quality Italian cuisine. There are far superior options available that prioritize both flavor and food safety.

We had an opportunity to meet the chef, and our food was fantastic. We ordered the seafood salad, crab cake, and chicken parmasean. The homemade rolls were amazing. It was a great dining experience!

I have to change my original review. After looking at the receit, I see that they WAY overcharged for the pizzas.
The food was fantastic.
Aside from the overcharges, the staff were excellent! The ambiance was fantastic. The food was incredible!

Food tastes authentic and freshly made. Sauces taste like they are made from scratch and bread there tastes like home made deliciousness. Pizza there is very good as well as there pastas. Also there prices for this deliciousness is very good as well. ^_^

If I could give less stars, I would. This place is hit or miss, but has gotten so very bad. Maybe their entrees are better than their subs and appetizers or something. Haven’t wanted to try anything else after a few major disappointments in a row. It’s a shame because the first time I went here, the food was great and this place is close to my work. So I really wanted to like them, but unfortunately the food is more and more awful each time I have tried.

‘Tis a rarity to find petso, especially tortellini in PA. This place serves it for under $20 bucks. It’s a win-win.
The place has that ole Italian family-everyone-is-welcome-vibe. Great for kids and entertaining large groups, especially in the summertime.
Minor Critiques: the soup could be better & the bread could be bigger to match the entree size.
