Marco’s Grilled Cheese started as a food cart in the Iowa City Ped Mall on Cinco de Mayo in 2000. Over the last 20 years, Marco’s has expanded into three different food carts and a restaurant. We specialize in quick, delicious food at an affordable price. Our food carts are a great catering option for any size gathering. Although we started as a late night option for the college kids, the Marco’s Grilled Cheese brick and mortar is now a popular mainstay in Iowa City’s historic North Side. We have a large menu for such a small restaurant. Our top sellers are: Greek Gyros, Mexican Street Tacos, Italian Beef Sandwich, French Dip, & Philly Cheese Steak. Our carts are: Marco’s Grilled Cheese, George’s Best Gyros, & Paco’s Tacos.

“Marco’s Grilled Cheese in Iowa City is a must-try spot! Their gyros are packed with flavor and perfectly seasoned, and the jumbo corn dogs with cheese are absolutely amazing—crispy on the outside, cheesy and delicious on the inside. The food is always fresh, the staff is friendly, and the vibe is great whether you’re grabbing a quick bite or hanging out with friends. Definitely one of the best places to go in Iowa City!

2am…. Marco’s was magical. The moment I walked in, the Christmas decorations made me feel like I was home for Christmas at my parent’s house. I’m a U of I student and I miss home around the holidays. I ordered a bacon macaroni and cheese. It was PERFECT. Before leaving, I went to the counter and told the lady that put love into my food how great she was. She told me the whole team made my experience at Marcos’s great. Great staff = excellent food ❤️

First off , it’s waaaay over priced .
Next,the food was awful and it came on a hot dog bun . I ordered a steak grilled cheese .. $12 +$5 for fries and a drink. $17 for a grilled cheese fries and soda .. it was so dry I didn’t care if I over paid ! I was gonna at least leave with some food,in my belly instead of no food .. ( I was really hungry ) .. best I can say is “ it eats “ . Buyer beware, it’s a definite skip .. oh and don’t forget the tip for ordering g a grilled cheese at the counter .. all in all my kid and I ate grilled cheese ( they don’t even use Texas toast ) for the ripe price of $38..

Really cute spot with yummy food. Gyros are really tasty and the grilled cheese is my favorite. I don’t like tomato soup but tomato bisque came with the sandwich and I thought I’d share with my toddler but it was so tasty I ended up eating the whole bowl myself

Excellent place to eat at.
I had my 18 month old granddaughter and my son with me. I wasn’t sure if they were going to have high chairs but they did. The cook (Colin Hubler) came to our table to make sure our food was okay. The food was delicious. I am definitely going back and I’m going to recommend to my friends and family.

Stopped in here for lunch because one our teens is a grill cheese specialist. The bread on these sandwiches is toasted to a buttery perfection, but still soft in the middle with melted cheese.

The food truck was definitely the highlight of the night! People could not stop talking about how good it was and we all had to keep coming back for more.
There were so many great options but not so much to where it’s overwhelming when deciding.
Affordable and a great late night snack (especially when drinking)! Cannot recommend enough. So yummy!

I ate here with my partner about a year ago. I got tacos, he got a burger. We laughed thinking it was funny to not get grilled cheese. We didn’t laugh later when each of us endured food poisoning. We had to cancel our plans the next day. We will never return. Also, I understand this business is hostile to immigrants. So, I recommend folks who are anti-immigration eat here for a good time. Get the burger – it’s hard, rubbery, difficult to chew. We thought it might have come directly from the freezer.

My husband ordered the Cuban Sandwich and I ordered an Italian Roast Beef on gluten free bread with tomato bisque soup on the side. Honestly, the food was incredibly delicious and cooked perfectly. However, the serving portions were rather small for the cost and the presentation was missing a garnish of some sort. Of course, none of the prices will break the bank and this place is definitely worth trying.
