The dining room is rather dark in the evening, making the menu hard to read in the poor lighting. The design of the menu with finely printed fonts doesn’t help either.
There is an offer on the menu that’s hard to read because it’s highlighted in gold writing lthat details a mid-week offer (Tuesday to Thursday) for two selected courses for £20.
However, once you’ve selected your meal choice, it arrives in good time and is expertly cooked. The starter was a Scot h egg that was a delight to eat; full of flavour and hints of black pudding with a mustard sauce to provide some kick.
The house red is a great partner to the mixed grill with was simply delicious. I particularly liked the pairing with the creamed spinach that elevated the dish.
He made us feel so welcome and the food was great. It’s not often you come across genuine customer service.

The food was good quality but I felt the steak I ordered was not perfectly cooked.
The atmosphere was a little flat but perhaps that was because it was not particularly busy.
They were refusing walk ins on the evening we visited, which was unexpected when they were not full.
Even the staff was not professional, hopefully there will be better service.
Well done – arrived with bloody, sent back needed a few more minutes – came back, as a shrivel lump of coal, almost impossible to cut.

Walked away, there are plenty of other hotel restaurants, and restaurants that can cook a steak well done, correctly .
