We recently stumbled upon the Marathon while visiting the art gallery next door. To our embarrassment, we had driven past it for over a year, assuming it was closed due to its dimly lit interior and lack of visible parking. As lovers of Greek and Mediterranean cuisine, we excitedly ventured in to give it a try.
To our delight, we discovered a hidden gem that we had been missing out on for far too long! The restaurant offers an extensive menu, ranging from traditional Greek dishes like chicken kabobs and gyros to more familiar options like burgers, salads, and pizza. The homemade Greek salad dressing, perfectly cooked chicken, and delectable gyros were accompanied by mouthwatering pita bread, heated and coated with a special something that truly sets it apart.
Looks like Marathon has a full bar and a warm, inviting atmosphere with charming wood paneling, street-level windows, and an abundance of plants reminiscent of cozy local restaurants in Alaska and Canada. The clean, comfortable environment is further enhanced by the exceptionally welcoming staff who contribute to the overall positive energy of the place.
Not only is the food exceptional, but the prices are also incredibly reasonable. With fountain drinks under $2 featuring the highly sought-after crushed ice, it’s a refreshing change from the overpriced and under-flavored options found at other establishments. The French fries, served hot and crispy with just the right amount of salt, are the best in town. Pair them with a sweet and affordable Baklava for a truly satisfying snack.
Our entire family has fallen in love with Marathon, making it our new go-to spot for delicious food and great company. With prices skyrocketing everywhere else, Marathon’s prices remain reasonable, while their food is always served promptly and with great care. FIFTY STARS!

The food was pretty good, I got the reuben and it was nothing special. However the falafels I decided to order after the fact were amazing. They have a nice little room to eat in which is decorated well. The owner (or what I assume to be the owner) had an arrogant attitude and didn’t have the best customer service as I witnessed myself and watched how he talked to some of the other customers.

The gyro platter was mostly delicious. It came with gyro meat, a side salad, pita bread, tzatziki sauce, and potato salad. The potato salad lacked flavor and the meat was quite oily. We also tried the Athenian chicken which was okay. The atmosphere is unique and is not necessarily indicitive of Greek cuisine. Plus, the interior is outdated and food is served on styrofoam. Employees were very friendly and honestly hoped we had enjoyed our meal. Overall, good food and friendly service.

Always a treat to stop in! One of the few independent, reliable options in Greenville!

Decided we wanted to try something different, again. We weren’t sure where to park at first, so we parked in the back lot behind the restaurant where you turn in on. You can also park street side. There is quite a bit of room inside and the walls have wood interiors. I wasn’t sure if I went into the right entrance door or not because it was a small width hall that has the bathrooms to your left as you walk in. The staff was friendly and we enjoyed our beefsteak. Oh, did I mention this is a Greek restaurant?

My fiancé and I are OBSESSED. This place is underrated. Everything is made fresh and it’s delicious. The ambiance is so nice. Very old school. The cooks are so kind and personable. Will make this a go to spot!!!!

Stopped here for lunch and had a basic gyro platter and their “four seasons special”. The food was good, but honestly I’ve had better gyro platters than this. It would’ve been nice if the styrofoam dining ware they used was a flat plate instead of a partitioned one. I’d like to actually be able to mix my fries into the platter. The interior is also horribly outdated, but it has a unique feel if you’re into that, I guess. The food was decent. I left feeling full and I felt that I paid a fair price, but don’t expect anything mind-blowing.

This was my first visit. Actually I have never heard of The Marathon Restaurant until a friend drove us there for lunch. It has a Greek themed layout. The tables and atmosphere were polished and relaxing. The staff, cashier were polite and friendly. The cashier knew I’ve never been there before and helped me order by giving me the quick rundown of what’s popular and the ingredients. That is how I ended up ordering the steak and cheese sub, and I must say it was absolutely delicious! I have ate other steak and cheese subs from places like Jersey Mike’s and Subway, and it was good. However, The Marathon was better! I love their fries, too! I cannot wait to go back and try more of their food.

I’ve been going to Marathon for years and everything I’ve ordered has been excellent. The Ramano is my absolute favorite, but the gyros, steak & cheese, potato salad, fries, and tzatziki are also great. This isn’t traditional Greek but the food is delicious. Will be back.
