1st and Last visit!!!
My friend has never been to a Japanese/hibachi restaurant and we thought it would be better to suprise her on her birthday! We called this restaurant and asked if they do offer dinner service with dessert suprise for the birthday guest and the lady’ on phone said YES!. She confirmed that they will bring a dessert for the birthday Lady and with a candle and we all sing happy birthday! Well that wasn’t the case, we got there and the atmosphere changed, when the hibachi chef was cooking and entertaining us we tried engaging and joining the fun as we all should around the table which he told us to stop and we shouldn’t hit the table as it’s wooden and will break!(it was just 4 people ) trying to engage with him. He then just cooked and didn’t engage with us after that. We then had our food and was waiting on dessert. No one came to our table for a while even though they provided our to-go box and bags right after the chef was done cooking. We asked for dessert and I reminded our server of the birthday request and she brought in 2 small dessert placed them on the table and said “You Share” and left. I asked what about for the birthday girl she Said yes you all share, no candles ( not even the fake candle), no birthday wishes, no acknowledgment whatsoever.
Our experience was ruined and truly felt out of place and all we wanted was a fun birthday dinner.

Ps we’ve been to other hibachi restaurant and know the birthday experience is fun, chef’s are kind, engaging and friendly, and they do offer or acknowledge any special occasions. Truly dissatisfied and disappointed with the service!

Never did a review for this place in all the years we used to go here. Came here a lot when it first opened over 10 years ago. It was such a treat to have a delicious sushi place around the corner from our house. The way the sushi used to be served was like a work of art. If I dig around I might be able to find photos of that time.

Went Aug 2025 to treat myself to a solo lunch. Sushi still delicious. Good enough service. But I was sad to smell like a sour smell soon as I walked in and tables/chairs looking a bit beat up. The smell was like a back bar that hadn’t been cleaned well or something like that. I’d still come through for the good food and nostalgia. Man where did the years go? I wonder if it’s same management/owner as the beginning. I remember a real sweet/shy lady that was always running the place. Ahhh memories

Very nice Hibachi resturant also great sushi, highly recommend it, food is tasty, service is good. Make sure to reserve in advance if you are a big party, we were a party of 9. The parking is tight

The salmon roll was delicious, except for the California roll portion, which was cold and premade when served. Despite this minor issue, the server was incredibly kind and caring, and the service was prompt and efficient.

Was Great food, Great experience, our chef was very entertaining. The dinner experience was great. You are not living until you have a chef tossing food in your mouth. The service was a bit off. I’m not sure if they thought we couldn’t afford to be there but felt a little like they were worried about us ordering to much. I mean the bill was only $265 for a group of 5. Desert was kind of challenging. I had to ask three times to finally get an order in. Then I find out if you have 5 or more people in your group you are forced to pay gratuity of 20%. I that cool I get that but they try to bury it in the check then have the regular tip line you would expect. So it’s a Great way to trick your way into paying 40% gratuity. It’s is not worth that for sure. They had a hard time running my card I tried another one both had plenty of money on them. I know because I checked before I went. Strangly after I pulled up my app showed them the large balance on the card it went through no issues. Still a great experience until then.

We love Teppanyaki cooking style and we wanted to go to a different one ( we love Saporo in University Place!).
Mandolin was definitely worth of a change! I love they serve the salad family style and the sauces were very flavorful. Our family separately tried the chicken, shrimp and calamari Teppanyaki. My mother in law tried the noodles instead of rice and I have to say was also good! Dinner includes Miso and salad which is always a plus. Saporo beer is available.
We left with our bellies full and happy to have tried a different place!

The beautiful pictures in the reviews are old unfortunately. I ordered the cherry blossom roll because it looked wonderful and what I got was very much not. It was warm I couldn’t even finish it. I’ve been spoiled by so much good Japanese food around here that this was a major disappointment. It tasted like the fish had been sitting out at room temp all day. Won’t be going back.

Yakisoba and bento boxes were very good. Service was great.
The menu has been changed and alot of the really good rolls are no longer available.
We have been here many times. This occasion we were not at all impressed with the volcano roll. The 8 pcs were not wrapped correctly so we couldnt pick them up without using a fork and it tasted like old salmon. The roll was arranged 2×4 pieces with salmon, onion crisps, sauces spread on top, baked in a homemade tinfoil tray and then the tinfoil tray placed on a plate. Aside from the old salmon taste the presentation was lacking. We didnt finish the roll, which is a cardinal sin.. Just not impressed this time.

Had a great experience here. As soon as we walked in we were greeted and seated. We choose the dine in side without the main attraction. Our waitress was super attentive answered all our questions and without having to ask once came around to fill our drink four times. The servings were huge, I was not expecting to have to take so much food home. I would have liked my meat to be more seasoned but it was delicious none the less. The peach, blueberry and strawberry lemonades were good but the strawberry was the best. The soup was surprisingly bland no flavor at all. The atmosphere was a little intense for me. I am used to the hype yelling along with the cook but some of the grown men (customers) in there were going way overboard like it’s a food establishment not a baseball game lol. The bathrooms were clean and of course it was expensive but it was worth it. I would definitely visit again.

We went out for a special occasion. I enjoyed the food and the service, but I would have enjoyed it much more without the big screen TV showing Fox News right in front of our table. I will probably choose something else next time simply to avoid having that garbage in my face while I’m trying to enjoy a rare treat.
