A foodie’s paradise! (Especially foodie vegetarians). Light, complex, and fresh flavors with artistic presentation–thin sliced, bite-sized horseradish maple glazed crispy beef with flawless green beans? Black velvet Belgian chocolate shrimp with applewood smoked bacon confit?!! The menu says “sesame ball” and what arrives are half a dozen perfectly textured red bean paste sesame balls, with a dab of almond-caramel sauce melting over the top of each, fresh fruit, and a gorgeous citrus sorbet to sip from a frozen liqueur glass ✨

We recently had the pleasure of dining at Mandarin Lotus in Agoura Hills and was thoroughly impressed. We ordered the Black Velvet Belgian Chocolate Chicken with Apple Wood Smoked Bacon Confit and the vegetable fried rice. The chicken was a delightful surprise; it was incredibly flavorful and a must-try, even if you’re a bit doubtful about the combination. The vegetable fried rice was equally fantastic – packed with fresh veggies and, best of all, not greasy. It’s no wonder this place gets five stars from me. As a fun bonus, the walls are adorned with autographed headshots, which was a nice and unexpected surprise!

This place has always had the best Chinese food I’ve ever had. The service is amazing. The owners are a married couple who run the whole restaurant by themselves. The chef crafts delicious and unique signature dishes that you can’t find anywhere else. They are always giving us complementary desserts and appetizers. Kim is so knowledgeable and I recommend asking for her recommendations.

This time we got egg flower soup, the Crispy Calamari w/Argentinian Sauce and Black Velvet Belgian Chocolate Shrimp (I know, sounds weird, but it was SO GOOD). The food came quickly and every dish was exceptionally flavorful, perfectly cooked and beautiful to look at.

Thank you Kim! We will definitely be back.

It is incredibly hard to find a gluten-free Chinese restaurant that truly understands how to prepare food well and keep it safe. This place absolutely does both.

The owner and his wife are so friendly, thoughtful, and genuinely caring. You can tell they take food allergies seriously, and that made all the difference for us. The food was not only safe but also incredibly flavorful—some of the best Chinese food we’ve had.

We enjoyed a wonderful dinner and were able to leave feeling confident that we would stay safe afterward, which is such a gift when you have allergies. Thank you so much for caring for me and for being so attentive to my dietary needs. We will absolutely be back.

I haven’t had Chinese food in 2 years since finding out I had a gluten allergy and had to go gluten free. I found Mandarin Lotus on the find me gluten free app and this place did not disappoint. The owner recommended Belgium chocolate chicken and my first thought was no way, however, I decided to try it and it was DELICIOUS! The owner is very friendly, knowledgeable about gluten free and there are many options to choose from. I will be back and highly recommend this place!!

Chinese fusion food at its finest!! Mandarin Lotus is by far one of the best and most unique restaurants anywhere in this area west of LA. If you’re wanting to try food you’ve never had before (that is actually VERY good and works super well), this is the place! The ultimate foodie heaven! Ever wanted to try chocolate with shrimp and have it actually taste good?? Or how about lavender honey blueberry pork? Or Korean pear puree chicken? They have this and so much more! Perhaps one of the biggest menus I’ve ever seen!! The lady working there shows so much pride in her food, gives wonderful recommendations, and isn’t afraid to tell you what is good and what isn’t. Be sure to ask her if she would recommend what you’re ordering! They have excellent soups, appetizers, and if you order a lot, will usually always throw something in for free. The rice is excellent, breading on fried dishes is perfect, and sauces all turn out so well. They have excellent gluten-free options as well, which is amazing because it’s hard to find gluten-free Chinese food anywhere! Give this place a shot because they absolutely deserve your business!

The best Chinese food we’ve ever had. The owners were super helpful with accommodating our gluten free / dairy free needs for our daughter. The food was so delicious, flavorful, and tasted fresh and healthy too. You can tell the food is made with love and care. I definitely would recommend trying Kelsey Grammer’s orange chicken, broccoli beef, and the fried rice. We look forward to coming back often to explore the menu!

Terrible Experience – Misleading Prices and Poor Service

My wife and I decided to try this place based on the good reviews, but our experience was extremely disappointing. We came with our toddler and were surprised to find they didn’t have a high chair—something we’ve never encountered at a sit-down restaurant. It was inconvenient but manageable.

The pricing on the menu is misleading. There’s a $3 upcharge on every dish during dinner hours, which isn’t clearly stated. To make matters worse, we were told it would cost $2–$3 extra just for more spice. We love spicy food but refused to pay extra for something that’s typically standard at any restaurant.

Another red flag: they don’t serve regular water—only bottled, which feels like a forced charge. We ordered Kung Pao Chicken and Mongolian Beef. Each dish had 5 tiny pieces of meat buried under a mountain of onions. It felt like we paid $49 to eat vegetables and rice.

To top it off, a server made my wife uncomfortable by commenting, “Wow, you took so much,” after she used a normal amount of hot sauce. Completely uncalled for. The waitress even gave us a sob story about the restaurant’s expenses—as if that justifies the poor value and bad service.

This was the worst dining experience we’ve ever had. We left feeling frustrated, ripped off, and honestly confused how this place has so many good reviews. Shame on them.

Here visiting the area and really wanted some fresh vegetables and a healthy meal. I took one glance at the menu and knew I would find something. What I was not prepared for was an experience beyond my expectations. This is not your typical Chinese restaurant. Dan and Kim have created a cozy space where you feel at home, comfortable, and somehow also still fine dining. The service was phenomenal Kim greeted us promptly and seated us with a brief overview of their specialties. We ordered the Basil Taiwanese mixed vegetables and was not disappointed. The veggies were properly seasoned with a light sauce and served with rice. The flavors balanced well with the cabbage, broccoli, carrots, onions, beets, water chestnuts, squash and rice. I felt rejuvenated after finishing the plate. We also ordered the Strawberry Peach shrimp and again I was wowed. Never had I had such a complementary pair. We even joked maybe we should move to the neighborhood so we can come back. Definitely gonna have to return.

Visiting family for the week while travelling from Kenya, we decided to stop by after a late geocaching session. Upon entry, we were welcomed by the friendliest hostess who guided us through a menu that is a perfect mix of authentic and fusion cuisine. Each of us in our party of 4 was paired with a unique dish and accompanying drink- and they were spot on! You would fully understand why all the celebrity photos are mounted on the walls when the first meals arrive: proper fine dining quality presentation. We started with a soup, some spring rolls, ridiculously delicious rice and a mains, a perfectly brewed (fresh!) iced tea. Then had the best sesame-soy dessert that was a perfect balance of savoury and sweet. This honestly is one of the best places we’ve eaten at and we wish we could come back again (and again!).
