Social Profile:

History of the Grinder The term Grinder can be traced back to the East Coast where during World War I Italian immigrants set up sandwich shops close to the shipyards. Their freshly backed Italian rolls were filled with generous amounts of meats and cheeses, and were then baked and garnished with lettuce and tomatoes. These super-sized sandwiches were a favorite of the hard working men who ground off rivets on the metal warships. The friendly shop owners referred to these men as grinders, and the ever popular sandwiches also came to be known as GRINDERS.

Casual chain featuring pizzas & sandwiches made with house-baked rolls.

First time eating here. We had a large thin crust and it was delicious! Had just the right amount of toppings and the crust was just right! Will definitely be back! Recommend you try them!

I had previously lived in Alma for 25 years. So I was very excited to go back for a grinder. We ordered our food and it did not disappoint. However, there was a mistake on our order which was most likely a miscommunication on both sides. The kitchen lady (assuming the owner) came out and essentially chastised us that we owned more money for the correction. Which we were happy to pay as we were not arguing that it was a miscommunication. However, she was not the one who took our order so she does not know if WE miscommunicated or her cashier misunderstood. Either way maybe consider how you communicate with customers instead of making a spectacle in front of the whole lobby. A simple “i think there was a miscommunication and she rang you up for a personal size instead of a 12 inch but just so you are aware there will be an extra charge” would have gotten you “oh no problem”
Btw it was a specialty pizza which only comes in 12 or 16 inch!! So how is that my mistake?
Then also making sure we gave back the other pizza (we were not trying to cheat you) felt a little like you were accusing us of trying to trick the system. I just was in town and wanted to buy my son a pizza.
Lastly, charging an upgrade of $10 for gluten free made that grinder almost $25. Sheesh!

Paid $41 for 2 large pizzas. Unbeknownst to me, they charge $4 extra for EACH topping, and the pizza doesn’t even taste that great for what we paid. Won’t be returning…, also road was under construction and had to drive around and around just to figure out how to get in.

ordered a fred bread, saw a picture of it online and it looked very reasonably sized for the price, however I orderd the “gluten free” option thinking it would be the same. When I got there, this thing was tiny, I mean barely anything. The pictures do no justice, it’s barely the height of a french fry. I paid over $13 for this meal and was left completely unsatisfied. Discussed my experience with management, they didn’t care. Would not recommend, and had I not been pressed for time, would have never paid for such a thing. Will not return to this restaraunt again.

Disappointed, again. When I first moved to the area 2 years ago, the pizza was great, however the standards have changed at the Alma location. This review reflects my last 2 visits, as I wrote one off as a isolated incident and decided to try again tonight. For just over $10, I don’t expect perfection… but come on, it’s pizza! A vital part to a pizza is the crust. I have had better pizza crusts with frozen products than this location is serving lately. It is tough, chewy and not risen at all. Having an extensive culinary background myself, these are easy issues to remedy. Check your yeast, proof your dough, don’t overwork or over flour… simple. However after having the same issues my last 2 visits, it is obvious that this product has been deemed acceptable and now the new standard. The St John’s location doesn’t have this issue, so I suppose I’ll have to take my business there going forward. Sad, considering being a chain, even if independently owned, should have the same standards of quality and strive for consistency.

Every year when we come to see our family in nearby Ithaca, we eat at Mancino’s. I love the Stromboli grinder (grinder is just a cool name for a sub sandwich if you’re not familiar with the term.) I always get a whole and take the second half with me to eat for lunch the next day. I love this place. Great pizza, pasta, and grinders. See you next year!

Wouldnt deliver 3 miles away for starter’s, claimed they only deliver to business’s. I order it anyways. Then I get there and the girl claimed they dont deliver for insurance purposes..so thier insurance only covers them if they deliver to a business? They are liars. So, we go pick it up and the crust was burnt..yee ha..we wont be back..avoid this place, they’re hacks

Mancino’s is one of my favorite places to eat at and this one is good. The food is good most of the time, I usually always get the pizza grinder and I highly recommend it and their other grinders. A really nice small town eatery when you have a small group.

The one downside to this place, is that sometimes there is a large group of people that walk in and start to rearrange the tables and chairs to their own liking for a party or whatever, blocking others in and being overly loud. That isn’t really the restaurant’s fault though.

It was something to eat. We aren’t locals so we tried it. I got the Fred bread so cheese bread with ice cold marinara sauce. This is not for my taste buds..Definitely would never go back
