I visited Mamma Roma not too long ago and it was incredible from start to finish. The food was absolutely amazing and the staff made the whole experience feel really special.
We started with bruschetta, polpette piccanti and melanzane al forno, which completely stole the show. The aubergine dish was basically like an Italian-style lasagne, rich, comforting and insanely good.
For mains, we shared a seafood pasta that was absolutely unreal and a salami and mushroom pizza that tasted so fresh and perfectly done.
Definitely recommend trying the house wine too, great value and genuinely delicious. A must try.

A lovely lunch. A very grey and wet February day, and a few hours in Mamma Roma proved a very good idea. Leslie and I settled on 3 courses plus a big basket of Focaccia; gorgeous grilled goat cheese with pear, perfect pork cutlets in a port sauce, and a big & bubbling Provola dei Poveri. This plus a bottle of Barbera d’ Asti and the weather did not seem so dark.

Came here for dinner with a friend, and I was really excited given the high rating — we were craving a good Italian pasta. We were welcomed by the host and shown to our table, but things got confusing when it was time to order. We asked two different staff members if they could take our order, and both said they only handle drinks and that someone else would come. Strangely, neither of them called the right person or even pointed them out to us, so we ended up waiting until a third staff member finally took our order.
We ordered the focaccia buffalo, which was amazing, but the Penne Capricciose and the pizza were not to our liking. The pasta had a strange taste and an unpleasant smell, and the pizza was overbaked — too crunchy and hard.

quick service, spectacular and attentive waiters.
The rosemary focaccia was amazing.
Mammas favourites were our faves too!
The only slight negative was that the restaurant was quite cold, the radiator beside us was also not on.

Comfortable Italian eatery around Broughton Place Edinburgh. Pasta was fine with just a hint of spice, easy service, standard Edinburgh prices. Had Affogato at the end and It was huge.

Absolutely fantastic food! We returned to this restaurant during our trip because it was so delicious. The eggplant appetizer was especially yummy! Prices were very good. It’s a very busy place with three separate dining areas to accommodate their guests and I felt reservations were absolutely necessary. Service and attention were a little slow, both times we visited we waited to a point of annoyance to get service after being seated. We felt like we had to keep trying to get their attention. The delicious food would keep returning however.

Atmosphere and staff were so lovely and nice, I just didn’t like the food taste. But the portions of the food were really good, clean and nice restaurant.

Great restaurant and atmosphere. Great service (special thanks to Giovani) Recommended to try the fried prawns and calamari, garlic bread and cheese, Mamma Roma’s chicken (with asparagus and cream), spinach ricotta ravioli, and cream chicken pasta.

We visited Mamma Roma as a group of five and were really impressed. Despite not having a reservation and the place being pretty busy, the staff still managed to seat us right away and were super friendly and accommodating.
We had the mussels to start and the spaghetti carbonara for my main, both were honestly some of the best I’ve ever had. The flavours were spot on, and everything tasted really fresh.
Service was great from start to finish really welcoming. The restaurant has a nice, relaxed vibe and it’s in a handy location, just a few minutes from the Omni Car Park and St James Quarter.
If you’re in the area and in the mood for Italian, I’d definitely recommend checking this place out.
