Stopped in for some pasta with my pops. Everything was great. As soon as you walk in the door and you smell the air, you know you’re in for a treat.

I got the shrimp Alfredo which was among the best I’ve ever had. I love the fettuccine noodles! My dad got salmon picata which he also rated very highly.

Talked football with the owners son for a while. (the Giants will be back on top soon) Overall experience 9.5 out of 10.

I got glutened at this location after I placed my GF order with the manager, Linda, who reassured me she was familiar with my allergy. When I called them later to discuss my exposure to gluten she did not handle things well at all. She eventually offered a refund, but unfortunately I spent 2 days unwell for something that could have been avoided. Although they have GF pasta, please know that the meatballs are not.

Big ML fan. I frequent a number of them across the DC area and usually offer rave reviews of food and service. That stops today as I’m just in disbelief of my order. Chicken Alfredo. Basic staple right? I’ve had it several times in my life and at ML. I have officially written off the Olney location. The last two times at the Olney location, the dish was meh. Not my typical experience with ML and I chalked it up to bad nights. Shame on me for ordering a third time. The chicken was unseasoned and as it if it was boiled in water, chopped, and served. Upon inspection, there was almost NO SAUCE on the meal. Pasta and chicken. I had to add parmesan to make it edible. And burned bread! 6 slices of it. Yay me. Never again will I waste my money or time there. A 27 minute wait for this.

Comments had me a little worried. Here’s my experience from a recent visit….

Service- quick, friendly and attentive. Our waiter was great!

Food- delicious!
-garlic bread- crunchy outside and soft inside. Comes with olive oil and Italian season
– chicken parm- chicken and pasta were soo good! I noticed some complaints re too much sauce. I loved that it had extra sauce. I’m often asking for more at other restaurants. Thanks for making my life easier and meal better
– lemon cake- good

Atmosphere- clean, modern and plenty of seating

I come to Mamma Lucia in Olney every Friday night with my kids. Javi is the best chef in the business. The food is good, but we come because of him. He always greets us and makes me and the kids feel welcome. I highly recommend sitting at a bar table so you get the full Javi experience. Don’t be shy, and introduce yourself. He’s the guy in the Cowboys hat. Feel free to shame him for his choice in Football teams.

Boring. Uninspiring. Substandard.
[1] The toast slices served when we first sat down were hard and chewy. Were they warmed up in the microwave?
[2] I ordered the spinach roll and asked for white sauce in lieu of tomato sauce. I was charged $2. The waiter did not tell me that the white sauce would be extra. I was miffed. I didn’t say a thing, but it’s a matter of principle that I should be informed of an additional cost when I request an ingredient replacement.
[3] The spinach roll dough was tough on the bottom and hard to cut. I stabbed it with the fork and held it down hard as I sawed through it with my knife. Not easy. I was afraid the fork would slip and the whole thing would fly off my plate. The spinach roll was way too big and had enough calories for 1 day, maybe more. That’s the only thing I ate that day because it wouldn’t have refrigerated well. The taste: barely ok.
[4] The pasta bowls include a salad. The friend who ordered the salad and I watched the other two people eat their salad until the main dishes were served. I hate that! What would have made more sense is to serve the pasta and the salad at the same time, perhaps in two smaller plates, then all of us would have been eating at the same time. In my mamma’s kitchen the salad and pasta are served together.
[5] The massive bowl of pasta this restaurant serves would have served 3 in my mamma’s kitchen because we always ate a lot of salad. The salad’s moisture works perfectly with the pasta.
[6] In my entire life, only twice did I order pasta at a restaurant (not counting Asian noodles). That’s because pasta dishes are usually served as massive globs of goo in deep bowls that are about the size of serving dishes instead of single-person plates. I did not ask if this restaurant serves ½ meals which seniors prefer. How about a normal human-sized meal of salad+pasta? Or is pasta so cheap that the restaurant owners want you to take home the soggy leftovers to make you feel you got your money’s worth?
[6] Instead of one massive spinach roll on a barren plate, I would have loved it if I were served a smaller spinach pie (a third of the size of the roll) with some baby lettuce, a few cherry tomatoes, a few slices of cucumber, and a few pitted black olives. Make it special and throw in a few pecans. Not asking for fancy ingredients. Just the basics with a flair.

No imagination at Mamma Lucia. Maybe the owners are bored and too busy crunching numbers instead of checking that their toast is crunchy and tasty.

Do not Recommend….. I’ve had great experiences in the Rockville location so thought I’d try this one out. First, I found hair in my food the moment they sat the plate down. absolutely disgusting. After I requested the bill, I noticed I was charged extra for a side I did not order. I eventually had to speak with the manager (who did not come over to apologize for hair and bill error). The server was nice. Just wished she advocated to her manager more about the issues rather than me requesting to discuss the bill. I will NEVER return nor recommend this restaurant to anyone!!!

Always a great experience, but this past weekend was amazing. We had a group of about 30 people and had reserved the back room. We added people last minute and they didn’t seem bothered at all. They then asked if we wanted one check or Separate checks… We asked for separate checks, and again they seemed unfazed.
They had multiple servers throughout the entire dinner who took orders at multiple different times because our group had people trickling in late. The food came out quick and the service was excellent. They were so on top of their game! I really hope our group treated them and tipped them well because they really did such a great job and didn’t even add the gratuity to the checks. They were so organized with the payments too…I have no idea how they did that!

Pictures speak for themselves, a first time cook could produce a better pizza (holy moly look at the crust), complete lack of attempt to spread the cheese or sauce, and the penne rose was clearly reheated (possibly in the microwave) as the fats rendered out of the cream and the sauce went completely translucent, hostess who answered the phone hung up on me after being on hold for 5 minutes because I answered 1.5 seconds after being taken off hold, was put on hold again and waited five more minutes to place my order again. I could make all of these dishes 2-3 times better without even trying, and it’s sad because mama Lucia’s was a staple growing up.

Food is really good and service is great, but it is certainly not a value place to eat. Prices are definitely high and it makes it a rare occasion for us to eat there. We do buy the discounted cards at Costco but you can’t use them during any of their special nights, like buy one pizza get second pizza for $8. Which really isn’t much of a special for some; how about just reducing price of each pizza (or each pasta dish on another night) to actually make a deal for those who only need one pizza or pasta?
