Open since 1980, Mamma Assunta Ristorante transports you to experience what people of Italy are really eating. Its classic Italian menu travels through many regions of Italy but concentrates on home cooked Abruzzese and Neapolitan cuisine. Family owned and operated for almost 40 years, Mamma Assunta’s menu is created by owners Elio and Angelo Di Rosa and is a reflection of their childhood and the comfort foods they experienced growing up in Central Italy.

Mamma Assunta is our “special occasion” Italian Restaurant! Delicious food, daily specials, attentive service and cozy atmosphere all lead to a great experience every time. We brought friends here from Wyoming to demonstrate to them what a real New York Italian restaurant is! They’d never experienced anything like it. This is one of the rare places where I’ve found Cannelloni on the regular menu and of course, it is delicious. Try the endive and pear salad with its bright lemony dressing, or the linguine with clams, which my companion said were the best he’d had in many, many years. Portions are generous and if I attempt having a primi and a secondi, I roll right out of there. Great for leftovers or sharing the primi. I wish I took photos of all the food. But everything came out hot and fresh, absolutely delicious. There’s a nice private room in the back for larger groups. It got really hot at some point in there, understandable for the amount of people. There are high chairs for little ones. Unfortunately, no changing tables for them though.

I normally don’t write reviews but I feel I need to. We had an 8 person family dinner last night at 6:30pm. The service was terrible and the food was mediocre. We sat down at 6:30, didn’t get a drink until 7:15pm and our apps didn’t come out until 8pm and dinner until around 9pm. Two people ordered steaks and they both said it was dry – like eating a sneaker. The meatballs were dry and tasteless. Our waiter essentially forgot about us – didn’t even refill our waters or ask us for more drinks. 3 hours into the dinner I had to get up and find him to tell him that the dinner was taking forever – he laughed in my face. Overall, it was close to a 3 half hour extremely expensive dinner for mediocre food and horrible service. First and last time here.
