The service was tremendous. Our server, and I am sorry I didn’t remember his name, was perfect. He helped me pick out a vegetarian meal – taquitos I think. I have been here before and had the Mexican street corn which was heavenly. I thank him for letting me branch out and try something different. He was so nice. So efficient. Such a good worker. My husband had a big slab of pork belly which he was very happy with.
We arrived without booking and had to sit at the bar, which was comfortable and we were made to feel most welcome.
The stairs are steep with little candles on each tread, and there are railings but i don’t think there are any lifts. I’m old and stairs are hard for me, but I managed and will return. In March, actually 🙂 I didn’t see any toilets but they may have been downstairs .
When we left, we had a very enjoyable stroll to the Athenaeum Theatre to see our show. Below, I added pictures of our meals, the Botanical gardens, the Sofitel lobby and a view from the terrible seats we had at the Athenaeum 🙂
Beautiful Mexican food with super yummy cocktails! We had Mamasita margarita and Fuego margarita and and they were delicious!
We had a couple of small dishes of guacamole and pickles vegetables to shared. Then I had a piece of scallop, pork belly tacos, and bay bug tostadas. While my husband had sweet potato tacos and chilli cheese flautas. We really loved the food and it was actually fullfilling, we were too full to have dessert after all these foods. The sorbete de primavera was a great cocktail to finish the meal!
Blue Eyed Crudo Tostadas taste amazing!
Mamasita Margarita was a classic marg with a fruity twist, so yum!
Standouts were the tuna tostadas and the cheesecake
Also had the beef brisket, elote, ceviche which were great.
Pickled veg was a bit spicy, not quite as good as the rest.
Amazing food, excellent service and a busy loud happy environment. Super clean and high quality.
It’s not cheap, – it is excellent… and excellence is not cheap!!
I hadn’t visited for over 10 years – so i was especially excited to see how they were today. The first thing to notice was the beautiful facelift, a fresh new look and projections on the walls. It’s a great vibe!
The cocktail’s were impressive, we couldnt fault them. Especially the Coconut and Papacito Margaritas. They use NODO tequila, produced by the Banuelos family in the Canyon of Tecuani in Mexico since the 1970’s.
The menu is divided into snacks, taqueria plates (tostadas, tacos, flautas), chef’s plates and sweets. They also have a Feed Me Mamasita! Menu for $66pp, or banquet menus available for groups of 6+
✔️ Elote – how can you not enjoy cheese topped corn?
⭐️ Frijoles, black turtle bean dip, chilli oil, cheese – really suprised with this dish, very tasty!
⭐️ Chicken flautas – unreal! Crunchy, flavourful, saucy. My favourite dish of the night.
✔️ Cerveza-battered fish, salsa escabeche, verde jalepeno crema – i wasn’t expecting it to be crumbed, like a fish burger in a taco but it was yum!
✔️ Brisket barbacoa, chimichurri rojo – nice, spiced flavour in the meat and alot of it! The sauce underneath is great. Add the house tortillas and condiments and build your own taco!
We were actually sadly too full for dessert, the dishes are actually quite generous, definitely a spot for sharing! We were really happy with our dinner and will be back to try some more of the menu.
