Good food .
Small place.
Area surrounding is a little “ghetto”
I say that for a reason, there were women laying down next to the restaurant in a laundromat. Theses women were laying on top of the area where you lay your clothes and fold them. Has nothing to do with the restaurant tho. Just explaining what I said.
Very good food .

This is the BEST Jamaican food you can get around. Garry, the owner, does not play. All their recipes are really just that good and are so comforting!
I know no one wants to see a half way eaten plate but I couldn’t wait haha

Review 2024: New Name: The Fern Gully & Mamas
I haven’t been to this establishment for almost a year. I visited today and was very eager to have the brown stew snapper. The very cordial hostess was serving the food, taking the orders, and preparing things in the back. She politely said it would take about 10 min to prepare my snapper. That was not a problem. I would have waited longer to get “freshly” put together food. I ordered two different meals. I eagerly drove home to devour my snapper.

As I began. The flavor was there in the hint of pepper that warmed my tongue. I’m not usually a spicy eater, but it was just enough. As I continued, I began smelling the fish. It was NOT just a fishy smell. The fish had a spoiled smell. The more I dug into the fish, the more it smelled . I generally have a high sense of smell for things. So I said.. maybe it’s just me. I got to the head of the fish, and it was still a little cold. AGAIN, I understand having pre-prepped food made to order. I simply warmed it up a little more. But as I sat at the table with the rest of my family who were eating other meals, my brother looked over and said, “What’s that? It smells funny.” I agreed. I said I think it’s spoiled. Then I took a few more bites and finally ate some part that was not kosher (pun-intended) at all. It tasted full-on molted. I wrapped up the entire meal, the rice and cabbage (for the record, the rice and cabbage were not my issue.. they were tasty but got the boot bc they were smothered in the fish gravy). To say the least, I was very disappointed.

Looking back at my previous review, I recognize two things. One. The business seemed to be under new management or sold to new owners, and Two. The level of food has dramatically changed. They’ve done some remodeling (I thought the places’ previous vibe was better. The new feel seems like an attempt at modernization, but it just doesn’t work for the atmosphere.
All in all, I wish them well. I hope they rethink the fish service. Truly, it could have been a one-off. I MIGHT give them a second chance to do better. But right now, my stomach says… no.

I should have taken new pics… I failed there

Review 2021: They are kinda slow. Even when there were only 3 guests, including myself, in the restaurant, it took an extremely long time to get my meal. Finally getting my meal was great. I dined in and enjoyed my meal (nice and slow ).

All this Caribbean goodness for less than $12. I think I just died and went to heaven. Nice dining room too!

My only complaint would be that this place is TOO good, and now I’m going to compare everything else to this and it’s all going to seem subpar!

Food was disgusting no flavor rice was mushy curry chicken was flavorless and nothing but bones no meat the worst food ever and their phone doesn’t work to call them. It needs to go out of business. Completely trash I’ll rather starve then eat here. Very disappointed and shocked they are still in business. They have lost their passion for serving real Jamaican food just trash wasted my money. I wish I could throw up everything I ate and give it back to Mama’s kitchen.

The food hit or miss. Last visit, the service is what made me say I’m not coming back. It’s one thing to out of items, but customer service is everything. Nobody wants a passive-aggressive person making their food. Especially when you have to take the persons food in the back to prepare. It was very uncomfortable feeling my last visit, and it will be my last

I stopped going about a year or two ago due to the drop in the quality of food. I decided to check them out again, because someone said it was under new management. I was greeted, but it could have been better. Upon asking about the food, it was like pulling teeth. Could have explained the menu and help with the options and get me a bit more interested in what they offered. Then, when she started to explain, she was flying through everything and I could barely hear her. The bottom line is, amp up the customer service and be a bit more friendly and welcoming. On the other hand, I purchased the curry chicken, peas n rice, and cabbage. Got home and saw that I had a plate full of rice and cabbage, no plantains(at least 2 small pieces) 1drumstick cut in half, half of a half of thigh and a small bone or two that was chopped up when they cut the chicken. That pissed me off, because $10.42 at least let me get a whole chicken leg quarter, two legs or something, is all I’m saying.
