On a Tuesday night, we ordered a takeout deep-dish pizza from Mama’s Famous Pizza at the Houghton location (Houghton Rd, Tucson). It cost around $36—for that price, the quality felt disappointingly cheap.
We had about 6 slices left over, so we packed them up and refrigerated them right away. Less than 24 hours later, the meat had turned green and was clearly spoiled. The pizza looked and tasted fine when we picked it up, but this raises serious concerns about whether the staff is using fresh, in-date meat. If people eat the whole pizza in one sitting, they might never notice the issue—but leftovers revealed the problem quickly.
We tried contacting the restaurant to discuss it, but the experience was disappointing. The manager claimed this has “never been a complaint” before, which felt dismissive. It doesn’t address the potential food safety risk—spoiled meat could have made our entire family sick.
We love supporting small, local businesses, but it has to go both ways. Don’t dismiss customers or imply we’re lying when serving food that spoils this fast. Food safety matters more than anything.

I want to recognize Sam, the manager at Mama’s Pizza, because her level of care and effort was far beyond anything I expected.

From the moment she became involved, it was clear that Sam genuinely wanted to resolve my concern the right way. Not just quickly, and not dismissively—but thoughtfully and with heart. She was kind, attentive, and incredibly sincere. You can tell she has poured herself into this business and takes real pride in the experience customers have.

What stood out just as much was her team. The staff clearly reflects Sam’s leadership—warm, attentive, and intentional. Everyone made me feel valued and important, and that kind of environment doesn’t happen by accident. It’s the result of someone who leads with care and sets the tone for excellence.

Sam put in more effort than I could have imagined, and it showed in every detail. She turned what could have been a negative experience into one that reminded me how powerful great customer service can be.

Mama’s Pizza is fortunate to have Sam and a staff that genuinely cares. People like her are the reason customers stay loyal.

Eating out anywhere has lost its charm. Unfortunately it’s hit mamas as well. The food was just meh. If you are going to serve fried calimari, please have cocktail sauce as an option. The employee at the counter was very disinterested and was just meh. I’ve been going to mamas for 40 years and unfortunately I don’t feel the love anymore.

Ordered a large cheese pizza. The flavor of the crust and sauce was a 4.5. Only complaint, was the dough was too thin. I know it’s a thin crusted pizza but I’ve never had it, this thin and there were 4 big bubbles on my pizza and the cheese was very light. It has a good taste. I guess I expected more for a $24 cheese pizza

I have always loved Mamas Pizza and the environment. My husband and I stopped in hungry before hitting a movie next door, unsure what to expect out of the calzones, but tried it anyway. Let me just say, this was THE BEST calzone I have EVER had the pleasure of biting into!! I just got pepperoni and basil but the flavor and cook was absolute PERFECTION!! Still dreaming about it and have tried others that just aren’t coming close. Can’t WAIT to get back!!

Went for a sweet 16 birthday party and it was a good ol fashioned dinner, played a few old school games and ate the most huge slice of pepperoni pizza and it was good! Great marinara sauce perfect amount of cheese and the bottom of the pizza crush was very crunchy. Can’t wait for my birthday I’m going back to party

You order at the counter & get your food @window when done! Salad (huge for 2) to much lettuce but it’s good. Luv their pizza fresh. It’s not good when you take it out?

I want to start by saying that this place has been one of our favorites for a while. Back when they cared and were a hype we used to come here and eat in the patio, kids used to play giant jenga or corn hole and we just hung out long after our pizza had been eaten. It was a great place. However I have seen the decline in service, in some caring for the appearance and or customer service. I’m sad to say it’s probably the last time we come by here. I called to order a large pepperoni and meatballs pizza, a medium Hawaiian pizza and a small cheese. I know times are hard and inflation is crazy. My total was 70.00 for these 3 pizzas. I enjoy them so I didn’t mind paying the price for the pizzas. However when I called I put a timer of 45 minutes which is what the lady said it will take. I was there 5 minutes before and my pizza was cold. The box was not hot to the touch as soon as I got it. If you aren’t busy and will make my pizza sooner, can you please tell me? OR call me to let me know my pizza is ready for pick up??? I had to reheat it when I got home

I added some ingredients to the pizzas and paid around $2.00 per topping. Again I know times are hard but I’m paying for it. I’m not asking you to hook me up. Could there be a bit more of pepperoni? Cheese? Like omg!! It was sad looking. Again, I rather go to Costco and get 3 large pizzas for 30.00 instead of these sad ones for $70.00… sorry but won’t be back. And for other customers don’t be cheap with the ingredients!!

Walked in and ordered at the counter a chicken sandwich and an order of wings for $32! ! After waiting for over 1 hour I asked for my cash back which took another 20 minutes after they told me 2 times it would be another 10 minutes. They wanted to give me the food so I took it and the wings were burnt. Definitely not worth the money. Don’t waste your time here
