Great little gem. Good food. Nice adult food and atmosphere with reasonable prices. Attentive service. They don’t take reservations. Be sure to go early.

Home made everything was awesome! Pasta, sauce, meatballs, and the best sorbet (basil with lemon) ever! Abby, the owner, provided us with very friendly service and was very passionate about the food and it’s ingredients. We are definitely going back again, and again.

Let me begin by saying I hope the restaurant takes this review as constructive feedback, not a complaint. I really think they have potential to be a great restaurant. The service was outstanding. The prices were a bit high, which I don’t mind paying when the food is really good. The food seemed to be really fresh and definitely homemade. The pasta seemed to truly be homemade and the Caesar salad was excellent. Unusual but excellent just the same. The problem was the food had very little flavor. I had the pasta with the bolognese sauce and my wife had chicken parmigiana. The bolognese sauce, while fresh and seasoned had no real flavor to it. The chicken parmigiana chicken, while still moist had the breading way over cooked and hard. Perhaps fried with too high heat. The parmigiana cheese was one very small bite of cheese on the underside of the chicken. And again, the red tomato sauce seemed to be freshly homemade, nevertheless it had very little flavor. The coffee was strong and delicious but the gelato was a big disappointment. It was not even close to a real gelato. Lots of ice crystals, closer to ice milk than a smooth gelato. To be fair, they told us their gelato machine was broken and this apparently wasn’t freshly made. I really hope they take this review constructively because I think they have great potential. But it will be a while before I’m willing to spend that kind of money for food with at best mediocre flavor.

Pasta night was awesome! All the food was really good, and the meatballs were right up there with my all-time favorite, Irene’s in NOLA. And thanks for staying open late! My bandmates and I really appreciated it–after playing a couple hours, and being our own roadies, we were super hungry!

Friday night and they were super understaffed. Went to the janky waiting table where the way over worked bartender was only able to get over to us after 25 minutes. Got a table after 45 mins. Waiter was super busy doing her best but took over 2 hours to get our food. I liked my food my wife had lesser opinions. Maybe like 7 people called out but this experience sucked.

I remember when this was a breakfast place. It was terrible then, and it’s worse now (because now it’s pretentious too).
The main room was atmospheric, but a bit too dark–I needed to maneuver the table candle to read the menu. But centered in the background was this incongruous opening into a glaringly lit passageway–not a showcase for a kitchen, just an ugly dingy space featuring a strange restroom sign, an unused sink, grimy walls, and people running to and fro. Spent many minutes gazing in that direction as we waited way too long for our food. Why not either clean it up or cover it with a curtain?
I thought the menu was somewhat arcane–it was hard to find things we were enthusiastic about, and there were no familiar standards. But we finally decided…
Service was very slow. (But it was a busy night…)
The soup tasted like warm water; its various ingredients were like plastic. My daughter’s mussels had been microwaved improperly; parts of the shells were ice cold, while the insides were barely warm. The plates were hot, but the pasta was cool enough to send back (although we didn’t bother). Supposedly the pasta is homemade, but store-bought would have tasted better. The sauces were watery and tasteless; you’d do better with Chef Boyardee. The chicken tastes better at KFC. In fact, everything we had was completely flavorless. My kids (13-year-old twins), who had walked in hungry and who love Italian restaurants, found everything unpalatable and left half of it uneaten. So it wasn’t just me.
I mentioned to the server that we had all found the food terrible, and she said “oh” and ran away. My kids were angry at me for speaking up, although I wasn’t rude, and I don’t blame the servers. But in a classier place someone would have at least asked me why we didn’t like it (and in some places they would go a lot farther than that). My sense is that the staff were untrained and had no idea how to handle anything off script.
I see numerous positive reviews here. My son tells me “everyone has different taste.” I said to him, “But ALL THREE of us hated it.” And he said, “maybe it’s genetic.” So, maybe it is…

We couldn’t wait to have lunch here. But was quite surprised as not much of options to choose from. The coffee at $3 a quarter cup and afraid to even ask for refill. Bottle of Sprite 12oz.. $4.50
Order food at counter , leave tip and after you’re done make sure you clean your own table. The waste can and bottle recycling can is at the very end of the restaurant next to a long table seating 7 people. Food was good. I am sure dinners are better.

Awesome new Italian place in Ludlow. They are the best of the two dedicated Italian places in town. They hand make all their pasta everyday for lunch and dinner. They have a dedicated lunch menu and separate dinner menu both amazing. They have a nice selection of beers on tap and bottled as well as a good wine list.

The food was fine. The waiters/ waitresses were nice, BUT, the kitchen was incredibly slow. We had to wait around 2 hours for a table because of this. The restaurant was also incredibly cold!! Realised the thermostat was set at 55.

We will not be eating at Mama’s again. Overpriced; small portions; mediocre food; pushy waiter; loud atmosphere (though the place was less than 1/4-full). When we tried Mama’s for the first time last year, at least the service was good, and the food was more nearly worth the price.
