The lasagna is amazing! You can taste the love that went into each layer.
The atmosphere is great, the staff is super friendly, and most importantly it lives up to the hype it builds on socials.
Well done, team. Really hope to see you open more days of the week! I know you’ll fill those tops, 86 being closed half the week. Thanks for your hard work!
The “Get in and get out” food is amazing to take home and have on hand. If you’re picking up stuff from this fridge/freezer or need to take your hot food to-go, you can hop in the “To-go” line and check out pretty quick.
Highly recommend this remarkable place!
There was a bit of a wait to get in. You wait until your at the head of the line and order your food before you even sit down. Pay. And then go find a place to sit. As I was there solo, finding a small table for 2 was easy.
The place was very busy, but still had a relaxed family atmosphere.
I ordered the Fat Tony lasagna. It was phenomenal! They made an already amazing lasagna and cover it with their “crack” sauce. Brilliant idea! The flavors were as good as my mom made it! (Better actually, but I’ll deny ever saying that)
The focaccia bread was fresh and warm. It’s actually closer to a cake. It was so thick I almost struggled with getting it into my mouth. Great flavor as well.
The serving was perfect. Nothing went to waste. The dessert options looked amazing as well! But I had to tap out. I was so full I couldn’t even fathom the idea of dessert. If I was local I would have bought some for takeout. But sadly I had to fly back to Canada in a few hours and wouldn’t have room for it.
Bottom line? Go to Mama Mila’s for for the amazing food and wonderful establishment. You won’t regret it.
The staff is so friendly and focused, the food is hot and delicious. Watching the staff, serious yet playful made me miss working in a restaurant. They embody the mantra “you are a guest in my home” mentality and this is what going out to eat is all about.
We waited as did everyone. An older woman in front of me told us that she’d waited longer and this was her fourth time.
My only advice is to consider the weather and dress for the line.
For dinner I had the Big Tony and my husband had the Gemma. The Big Tony is Lasagne smothered in crack sauce. Yes, it certainly was!! The sauce was delish and flavorful, but not too salty-just perfecto. Best Italian food outside of Italy and the atmosphere is perfection! Instead of boring generic plates, dishes are served up on antique dinner plates. The owner and her family do various jobs. The servers shout your name when your dish is ready and you raise your hand for them to bring it to you.
There is a little sign at the entry that explains that their flour and many items are ordered from Italy. I am gluten sensitive, and did not seem to have any trouble with the lasagne or the fluffy focaccia. That is rare.
Mila was walking around and gave us a few minutes of her time to tell her story of the restaurant. She is a hoot, a delight, passionate, and hard-working. It reflects in her establishment. Even though my big fat Italian family is all spread out around the country, I felt like I was having family dinner at our little table in the corner. Such warmth, love, and Amazing dishes!! Can’t wait to return!! Keep it up!! Middle TN needs you!!
Now the food. It’s all pasta. Penne, Fettuccine, Lasagna and Stuffed Rigatoni. Different sauce combinations – “crack” sauce (vodka sauce), white wine, and cream sauces. Plenty of options for gluten free as well.
We samples everything from the traditional Augi (Penne Al a Vodka), Fat Tony (Lasagna smothered in crack sauce) and the Enzo weekly special – a sausage, mushroom, spinach with penne in a white wine sauce. Everything was made to order and absolutely amazing. Their focaccia bread is excellent and perfect for sopping up any left over sauce. Their ranch dressing is also a stand out. Either garlic or pesto ranch and both are fantastic.
Even though we were stuffed like a Thanksgiving turkey, we couldn’t leave without trying their gelato. It was the perfect way to finish an outstanding dinner.
If you decide to pay them a visit, be prepared for a short wait. I think we waited about 30 min, but you know what they say about “good things” and “waiting”. Parking is a little tricky.
But Mama is the star of the show. The absolute sweetest host connects with guests with smiles and laughter, but also a “don’t mess with Mama” persona.
Since everything is fresh, it’s possible they can run out of certain ingredients by the end of dinner service, so get there early to experience all this amazing restaurant has to offer.
The staff is sweet and helpful, the venue is adorable, and the food is absolutely divine!!
