Made a 6 pm reservation and got right in. The place was about one third full. It’s very spacious, with lots of different seating areas and table options. They also have outdoor patio seating, which would be a treat during nice weather. The noise level was comfortable and allowed for easy conversation.
Our server greeted us right away with water and menus. I wasn’t interested in a cocktail, but a hot tea on a cold night was perfect. The menu had a nice selection of starters, salads, sandwiches and entrees. Several things sounded excellent, so I asked our server for recommendations, which she was happy and almost excited to give.
We decided on the Elote Corn Fritters to start. I ordered the Mallard Melt, a new item, and my date chose the Blackened Fish Tacos. The fritters arrived after a short wait and they were absolutely amazing. The flavors were bright and spicy without being hot. The texture inside was both moist and crumbly, a really delicious start.
After another short wait, the patty melt and fish tacos arrived. Both dishes were the right temperature, flavorful and nicely portioned. The garlic toast on the melt was perfectly grilled, and the pimento cheese, bacon jam and Nashville aioli were tasty, though they blended together a bit too much. Instead of chips, I ordered the veggie fries, which were pan grilled beans and carrots. A great alternative to fried sides.
The fish tacos were nicely plated and generous. Lots of interesting flavors from the avocado cream and hot sauce.
It was a very good last minute choice. The menu selection, service and atmosphere were all better than expected. Would definitely come back again, and for sure would get those Elote Corn Fritters.
The Cioppino was fantastic as well 🙂
