This place used to be great. Most recent visit staff wasn’t very pleasant. The food was both expensive and awful. The chicharron was too overcooked and dry. It felt like it was old and refried to be sold again. The empanadas were the same barely any meat in them I ended up throwing out most of the meal out. Do not recommend and will not be returning. Shame because I think their Port Chester NY location is better.

I had an incredible dining experience at Makondo Restaurant in White Plains. From the moment we walked in, the service was top-notch friendly, attentive, and welcoming.
We ordered the Bandeja Paisa, and it was absolutely fantastic. Every component of the dish was cooked to perfection, and the meats were seasoned just right, bringing out authentic Colombian flavors. The portion was generous, making it a truly satisfying meal.
To drink, I had the natural passion fruit juice, and wow so refreshing and flavorful! It was the perfect balance of sweetness and tartness, complementing the meal beautifully.
If you’re looking for delicious Colombian food with excellent service, Makondo is definitely the place to go. I’ll be back for sure!

Cosy restaurant with delight bilingual staff, food here is extremely delicious. All dishes come in large portions, perfect for a family gathering, make sure to ask for any specials.
This cozy restaurant was once called Brownies Restaurant and Bakery, the food was excellent. But new owners took over and renamed to Pantojarse Restaurant and Brakery. Then the food wasn’t to it’s best, and the service was extremely slow, and cash only. I am assuming a new owner took over again, remained it to Makondo Restaurant and Brakery. The food return to its delicious flavors, one dish better than the other. Many updates including seating arrangements, paying methods, digital orders. A true diamond in the rough!

I came for takeout , I left Colombian house because online it says that around the corner has better prices . I walked out spending $70 for 2 chicharonne ( dry as the deserts core ) , 4 bunuelos , 2 chorizos , & 4 empanadas couldn’t even get two beverages with the amount I budgeted to spend for just lunch . Terrible terrible , you would think that they would be trying to compete not only for taste , but for quality and pricing .

I have been to their other location in Ossining, NY and this one in white plains, NY is just as good. I ordered take out and just like their other location, got a lot of bang for my buck. Got the grilled chicken cutlets with rice, beans, salad, and fried plantains. Solid choice. Chicken wasn’t dry beans were on point, and the plantains nice and crispy. Good place to eat if you find yourself in White Plains

I go here once in a blue moon they have pastries and empanadas that are good. There’s a round dough shaped salty bread with cheese taste that I like but I keep forgetting the name. Bunnuenoes or something. They have pork belly here too you can buy individually for $6 and they chop it off for you. It’s intimidating to go here cause I’m not a Spanish speaker I’m obviously Asian but when the lady continually speaks to me I just don’t want to say anything. English is the common language in America but when they start talking to you in Spanish I just want to point at the food I want and close my mouth. I like to try different nationality and country foods wherever I go.

While in White Plains, NY, I was in the mood for something sweet. However, I decided to seek out a location that would offer an all natural juice option. While walking back to my car, I noticed Makondo restaurant and just happened to walk in and check out their dessert section. One of the employees help me to find the all natural juice with fruit in it. It was the best fruit juice I’ve ever had in my life. When I return to White Plains, NY, I will be returning there for more fruit juice.

I have been going to this place for more than a decade and even if the restaurant changed names the food keep getting better. The plate that I always like the most is the typical colombiam bandeja paisa. This dish I will recommend. See the pic of a mini Bandera paisa which is the smallest version of the Bandera paisa.

A meh rating for a meh meal. Service and atmosphere here is great. I just dropped by for some chicharron and guac, paid $17 and received five small bits of chicharron and a potato along with my guac. That should be $12 max imo.

I used to really enjoy Makondo — it was my go-to place for good, authentic Colombian food without the high prices or the flashy atmosphere of places like Colombia House. The food is still good, no complaints there, but the prices have gone up way too much.
$8 for an Avena Fría? That used to be a small treat, now it feels overpriced. It’s not just the drinks — everything on the menu has gone up noticeably. I understand prices change, but this feels like too much.
Makondo used to strike a great balance between quality and value. Now it feels like they’re trying to position themselves as something fancier, but without the atmosphere or service to match. Sadly, the charm is gone, and so is that sense of value. It’s no longer the spot I recommend to friends, and it’s definitely not my go-to anymore.
