Makino was a perfectly average eating experience with better than average (for my expectations in TN) sushi. The location could use some TLC, but I found my service to be kind and relatively timely. I can definitely see myself coming back if I’m in town.

Lets start with the service. They got us right in and the got us drinks super fast. The waitress was also nice aswell. Foods up next. I ordered a full roll of spicy crab sushi it’s usually my favorite part about hibachi but not this time. The spicy crab roll tasted extremely fishy and the eel sauce I ordered on the side tasted nothing like eel sauce that I have had at multiple other restraunts. I also ordered gyoza which was good but cold in the middle and I ordered steak hibachi. Let me just say the steak had less flavor than boiled meat, and was barely Luke warm. The veggies included 3 pieces of broccoli a whole onion and 1 peice of zucchini. The rice was good though, and so were the crab rangoons. Overall qaulity of food is not great. I would also like to note im writing this review before I even got the check. I cant wait. Update i paid 60$ for this meal with my wife. Until next time The Food Gorilla

I’ve been here before and seems as if some things have changed and definitely not for the better. First let’s address the name Makino’s Japanese BUFFET… it’s not a Buffet… it’s not. When you get there you are given a menu a pen and a another pice of paper to fill out what menu items you would like ( no one explains this really and the waitress I had, there was a bit of a language barrier) personally I don’t come to restaurants to do light paperwork before my meal. Ordered coconut shrimp and that’s exactly what I got some shrimp on a plate with nothing else, no rice, veg, .. shrimp on plate so I doubled down and ordered steak Hibachi and much to my chagrin it was the TOUGHEST cut of the cow I have ever had Took two bites and called a day but those two bites took me 15 mins to chew enough to swallow. Not a fan of anything going on here. I won’t be back

The food was okay. The service was not good. The lady went to refill my drink and forgot to bring it back to me. The straw was drenched with wet stuff when it was brought back. They cater to lighter skinned people. We got eel and the eel was tiny. I’m curious as to why they don’t give a new sushi paper with each use. The sushi paper is dirty when brought back from the kitchen. The service is slow as well. Today the ladies were in a group talking while customers were waiting to order.
Years ago this place was amazing but now it’s a dump.

Like some of the other reviews I’ve seen, the food is good, the issue is with the waitress. We ordered one round of the AYCE menu (there’s no price on the menu btw), and the waitress came back and tried giving us our check when we only ordered 3 things. We would ask her for the sheet of paper back and she would disappear for a long time to where we would just sit there. We ordered some things again and she tried giving us the check every time we would get food, to where it made the experience uncomfortable. They need to better their ordering system because they used the same sheet of paper (which was full of oil and food from it being in the kitchen) and would they get confused on what our order was since she wouldn’t mark anything off.

The food itself was really good, we enjoyed the dishes and we wanted to try more but we didn’t want to because of the waitress. I noticed that she kept doing that to all the tables and I even read reviews on the same kind of service that other people experienced with her.

It’s a shame because while we liked the food, we didn’t like how we were treated.

The food is good. I don’t understand why their is served wet at the bottom. It’s a good place to eat for a flat rate.

I suggest that the person hosting (taking people to their seat), smile, greet, and welcome the guests as they walk in and wait to be seated.

The food was pretty yummy & really good soy sauce. I definitely ate enough to more than cover the value I paid. The service was slow, which really sucks since you’re encouraged to only order a little at a time by threat of extra charges for left overs!

Food is just amazing. The order system is very different they start off giving you a paper you picked your appetizers what kind of sushi and then your actual meal chicken steak shrimp veggies and then they bring everything to the table they don’t always explain that assuming a lot of people are repeat customers but the food is absolutely amazing.

I like coming here now since it has been cooked to order and not a buffet. The food is so much better because it is fresh!! I think they do an awesome job with portions and they make it clear not to order more than you can eat and since it is all you can eat they make it clear that leftovers will be charged and I absolutely think that is fair. The restaurant is kept clean and presentable… I do think the restrooms could use a makeover. The atmosphere is more of a relaxing environment which is a plus from when the buffet was opened. Love coming here!!!

It was good, the miso soup and seaweed salad were very good. The sashimi was good. Boneless ribs a little dry, and chicken wings just deep fried wings. I liked the tempura vegetables.
