We first tried this restaurant years ago during Houston Restaurant Week, and it quickly became one of our go-to brunch apots. Before we moved away, we would visit a few times a year, especially for their soufflés. Now that we’re back in town, it felt natural to return. My professor and his wife are also fans, so we decided to meet here for brunch and to celebrate my husband’s birthday!
They currently offer a fairly affordable brunch menu: French Frugal Feast. We ordered the pork carnitas dish, which was unfortunately very dry and lacked flavor. The only standout on my plate was the potatoes. The ceviche was just okay. We ended the meal with a soufflé, while my professor opted for a cheesecake.
Service, however, was excellent. Our server was very attentive, refilling water, tea, and Diet Coke every 10 minutes or so. That said, the restaurant was surprisingly quiet for a Sunday around noon. I remember it being packed during weekend brunch in the past. Of course, a lot has changed since the pandemic, and the cold, rainy weather that day may have played a role.
Overall, while the service and ambience remain good, the food quality–unfortunately have declined significantly compared to our previous visits. Free parking is a plus.

A lovely place for lunch. They have a great special for $39 I got Escargot and the Trout Almodine. The trout was buttery and lemony and cooked to perfection. I love the capers and almonds on the fish. The presentation was beautiful. The escargot was also amazing. For dessert I ordered the spiced rum chocolate creme brûlée. To me it tasted like a chocolate Abuelita creme brûlée which I enjoy! They have an amazing party room for 12, I did notice they have a great wine selection! My friend ordered a steak and the Wagyu empanadas. Will definitely give this place a try for dinner soon.

My wife and I made a 5:30 reservation on Thanksgiving day. We arrived and it was valet parking only. We were seated right away and we both noticed the ambiance and it was nice and pleasant. The service we received from the waitstaff was spot on and couldn’thave been any better. Now to explain why rating was so low. To begin my wife decided to go with the Thanksgiving 4-course limited dinner option. She chose to start her dining experience with a Lychee Martini, which she described as tasty. For the meal, I sampled all but the dessert and the first course they called, Amuse Bouche, was only one option, the Spicy Truffled Deviled Egg. I would describe the egg as an underseaoned plain deviled egg. The egg lacked seasoning, lacked anything supposedly resembling spicy flavor, and had the slightest hint of truffle. The next course was the appetizer which her choice was the Seared Foie Gras. The foie gras was perfectly cooked, rich and velvety with only a tiny hint of the liver flavor. The pineapple fig chutney was outstanding and bursting with flavor. The sweetness of the fig cut through the acidity of the pineapple and made the overall flavor a winner. The guava paste was tasty as well, being a simple topping to compliment the flavors of the chutney and foie gras on the toasted brioche. The third course was the entre. For this she ordered the Prime Short Rib. It was very tender and flavorful. The meat slid off the bone easily by fork and tasted like an expensive pot roast. The brussel sprouts were not softened and desperately needed more time being cooked, in addition they were coated in black pepper and that was about all you could taste. The carrot was soft with a very mild taste. The bed of mashed potatoes underneath was a very simple mash that was a typical mashed potato, however it was needing the help of salt and pepper, of which it had none, to bring out some flavor. The last course was the dessert. For this my wife ordered the Soufflé en Noir et Blanc. As I did not try this I must leave the description to my wife who simply stated that she loved it. For me I chose the main menu and decided to order 3 courses. The first was the Amuse Bouche, which I chose the Gougères. This pastry was light in flavor and puffy with an airy interior and crisp outside. It had a very mild flavor with a slight hint of cheese, I found these puffs quite lacking. My next course was an appetizer. I ordered the Lobster Bisque. This was a terrible mistake on my part. This was by far the absolute worst lobster bisque I have ever had. The bisque was oversalty with one small square bite of lobster. The lack of creaminess from the bisque itself was incredibly disappointing and I was left wondering if the chef knows the difference between a bisque and soup as the bisque was very thin rivaling the consistency of soup. The lack of flavor, the oversaltiness, the lack of creaminess, combined with the thin soupy bisque made this a complete disaster. For my final course, my entre, I ordered the Duck Duo a L’Orange. The duck was superb. There was a paper thin layer of tender flavorful fat surrounding the meat with a crispy skin covering the entirety. This was the second best duck I have ever had. The flavor of the duck was complimented by the orange port demi glaze, which added a layer of flavor topped with a hint of sweetness. The small stack of potatoes au gratin needed a lot of help and tasted of only a seasonless potato. The green beans were crisp and tasted of the orange glaze they were covered in. The baby turnip was soft with a slight sweet, but very mild flavor. Overall, the food was a huge disappointment with the exception of the duck and the foie gras. To conclude, the food was obserdly overpriced for the lackluster flavors provided. If you are interested in overpaying for food that can be classified as just a step above fast food, then this is your place. For me, I will not be returning to this establishment.

We had a 5:30 PM reservation and arrived expecting the happy hour menu to be available throughout the restaurant. At the time, the restaurant was extremely slow—only one other guest was seated. Our server informed us that happy hour was limited to the bar only.
However, a couple seated at a nearby table—who arrived about 15 minutes after us—were allowed to order from the happy hour menu and were moved from the bar to a table without any issue. This was frustrating and felt unfair, especially since we were seated just feet away and specifically told we could not order from the happy hour menu. Despite asking, our server refused our request, while another server told the nearby couple it was “no problem.”
The inconsistency in service left a negative impression. While the food itself was delicious and the $39 two-course menu was reasonably priced, the lack of fairness and poor service overshadowed the experience. Unfortunately, due to this treatment, we would not return.

My friends and I visited Maison Pucha Bistro for Houston Restaurant Week, and while we had high hopes, the experience turned out to be hit-or-miss.
We started with the Cucumber & Watermelon Gazpacho, Shrimp Ceviche, and Wagyu Beef Empanadas–and this was by far the best part of the meal. The gazpacho and ceviche were refreshing, well-balanced, and flavorful. The beef empanadas were rich, savory, and packed with flavor.
We were genuinely excited for what was to come. Unfortunately, the main courses didn’t live up to the appetizers.
-Eggs Benedict: A classic dish done… a bit too plainly. It wasn’t bad, but the “seasonal vegetables” on the plate felt like an afterthought–more garnish than actual side.
-Trout Almondine: The fish itself lacked seasoning and felt underwhelming overall.
-Chicken & Waffle: One of the most disappointing dishes. The waffle was forgettable and the chicken was dry, with a presentation that felt flat.
-Duck Confit à L’Orange: This had potential, but sadly the duck leg was overcooked and ended up dry.
As for the dessert we tried the Crêpe à L’Orange, Chocolate Moelleux, and Vanilla Crème Caramel. The desserts were passable, but not memorable. The Chocolate Moelleux, which we expected to be a lava cake, had no molten center–which was a letdown.
The service was generally good, but the host stand was disorganized. Even though we had a reservation and arrived early, we weren’t seated until five minutes after our reserved time with no communication as to why we weren’t being seated.
The ambiance had a charming French bistro vibe, we even noticed French music playing outside. Inside, the music was likely the same, but difficult to hear over the general noise–not overwhelming, but enough to lose the mood. Lastly, 2 out of 3 bathroom stalls were out of order, which felt like a detail that shouldn’t be overlooked in a nice restaurant.
Overall, this place has potential, especially based on the appetizers–but the entrées and desserts need refinement to match the ambiance and concept. I’d consider returning if the menu is reworked, but for now, it feels more style than substance.

I had a wonderful lunch at Maison Pucha Bistro during Houston Restaurant Weeks. The trout fish dish I ordered was beautifully plated and full of flavor — fresh, light, and perfectly balanced with capers, herbs, and seasonal vegetables. The atmosphere was elegant yet relaxed, with plenty of space and great service. Highly recommend for a refined but comfortable dining experience!

So I will write a fair review as I am new to Houston and heard the food scene was amazing
Pros
– lovely decor and plenty of space
– food was creative looking
– portion size big compared to most fine dining. I would have been fine with just the coffee and apps, but we did order entrees to taste more of the food
Cons
– wait staff is really slow with minimal checking in you. So if you like that, then this is your jam
– no Apple Pay – I don’t really understand that in this day and age.
-food looked really good, but for the price and location, I was looking for more creativity and fusion between Ecuadorian and Parisian flavors.
So overall – not a bad place to hang out for brunch with some friends for shareable plates, but not great if you are a foodie and want an exceptional experience

Truly a great experience. Lunch was absolutely delightful, light and delicate. The Agua frescas refreshing as the name implies a bit small of a portion but ok. The service from beginning to end friendly and efficient. The restaurants decor is well out together a good mix of old school french and modern times. They have plenty of parking in the back.

Tried this lovely find for restaurant week. Great atmosphere and staff. The duck recommendation was on point. The proportion was good. The oysters were a little small…more toppings than the oyster itself. The lemon pie was light and just enough citrus but not over powering. All in all an amazing experience. Sat outside because it was a lovely Houston night!

Ok food with Ok service. Oysters were great. Short rib’s portion was too small and the veggies were tasteless. The trout was ruined by those super salty capers. The only thing we’re impressed is the charcoal-grilled asparagus in the trout entree.
