It has the perfect amount of matcha, not too strong and not too sweet. The staff are also very welcoming. Overall great experience and would highly recommend.
Inside, the bakery has an impressive display of baked goods—classic Parisian-style pastries that are hard to resist. From macarons and artisanal loaves to savory pastries, Danishes, cakes, and desserts, the selection is extensive and tempting. It’s definitely the kind of place where decision-making becomes difficult if you love baked goods.
I ordered a ham-and-cheese croissant and a slice of Chocolate Royale—a layered pastry made with high-quality Belgian chocolate. It featured a chocolate sponge base, layered elements, a rich mousse, and a glossy finish. Absolutely excellent. In addition, I picked up a classic French ham-and-cheese baguette sandwich, which came with a small side salad, making it a complete meal.
Everything was packed carefully for takeaway. The baguette sandwich was very fresh, with a crisp crust and excellent-quality ham. The cheese had a slightly firm texture that added both structure and creaminess without being overpowering. The portion size was generous and quite filling, and the side salad of arugula and tomatoes added a nice, refreshing balance.
The Chocolate Royale lived up to expectations—rich, delicate, and well-balanced. While it’s clearly indulgent, the sweetness was perfectly measured, allowing the chocolate flavor to shine without being cloying. The croissant was also very good—buttery, flaky, and crisp—though it didn’t particularly stand out since I’ve had similar ones many times before.
Overall, the quality across the board was top-notch, with a wide variety of beautifully made pastries and savory items to choose from. If you enjoy French-style bakeries and refined desserts, this place is absolutely worth a visit.
2nd best Hot Chocolate in the Bay Area!!!
Love the vibes, coffee and desserts! (Vegetarian options available with a few vegan)
We ordered two drinks and a pastry for dine-in. We sat at a table and waited for around 10 mins before our food and drinks arrived. I was pretty bummed when the server handed us our drinks in paper cups – after all, we were there for the dine-in experience and wanted to take cute pictures at a cute cafe. When I asked, why our lattes were in paper cups, the server simply responded that they had no clean mugs (also, the drink was not even hot when we got it). The other tables around us had their drinks in mugs and others who got their drinks after us also had mugs.
I understand that there may have been no clean mugs at the time but we already waited for 10 mins and would’ve been okay with waiting another 5 for our drinks. When my boyfriend asked for a mug to pour our untouched latte into, one was brought out. Although it was appreciated, this was more of a hint that we would’ve liked like our latte to be remade because the paper cup was not the experience we wanted or were expecting. We ended up pouring the drink into the mug, but it just looked super sad for spending about $6 on it (first pic). To us, this was like going to a restaurant for dine-in and receiving our meal in a takeout container because no plates were available.
In the end, we didn’t drink the latte and went across the street to Alexander Patisserie that has a similar price point for drinks and pastries. After our disappointing experience at Madison Alyzée, this cafe brightened our mood. The latte came out in a mug with really cute latte art; the pastry came out on a warmed plate and tasted delicious (second pic). This is all to say that, for many, dining in at a cafe is for the experience.
I do believe this may have been a one-off experience at Madison Alyzée, so I probably will give it another a shot in the near future. That said, it was a pretty disappointing first time.
The coffee and lattes are usually great here, but I really come for their pastries. The chocolate crossaints have a great texture, a good buttery taste with a sweet chocolate middle. For the pastery-averse, their breakfast protein bowls are also delicious.
Service has always been friendly and efficient, and the atmosphere has a bustling, lively community. Despite the initial lines being long, I happily come back here weekend mornings to start the day on a good note.
My good husband wanted to order me my favorite for my birthday, a large Mille Feuille . After having sampled this stores wares I knew it wasn’t the place but my husband spoke with the baker who assured him in we be 100% traditional. Not fruit, no whipped cream. An authentic Mille Feuille. Sadly it was a gross waste of money and good ingredients. What I see with this baker is a flair for crème diplomat, nowhere near as flavorful and delicious as crème patisserie.
His Mille Feuille was an abomination. Caramel on top of the pastry layers, squashed raspberries on top of that, heavy flavorless crème diplomat next, and final insult to injury, the baker chose his usual route again ( seen with all his work) another big swirl of tasteless crème diplomat, this time (vanilla?) it was white. Shame on you Sir. My husband asked specially for traditional. You said absolutely. My husband told you I am a trained chef and do not like fruit, jam or any adulteration to the authentic method, you lied to the poor man. He went out of his way driving 40 minutes each way for this horrible thing. He was so disappointed and I am sad for him as this was part of his birthday treats for me and it is a disappointing expensive result. I tried it but it’s not remotely enjoyable and will go in the trash.
If you can’t give people what they ask for don’t say you will and take their money. I appreciate you have your version of French patisserie, I’ve now seen and tried more than I ever wanted to. For those who don’t know any better it may be good enough. For those who do you’re a disappointment for a French patisserie.
Many of the desserts in the display case looked old, and the chocolate tart I ordered was clearly not fresh. The cake bottom was stale and you could actually see the stale oil and cracks around the edges of the slice. On top of that, our coffee was served in chipped cups, which is simply unacceptable for a high-end café like this.
The outdoor tables were dirty and appeared to be neglected, and the place seemed noticeably understaffed.
Overall, it was a disappointing experience today. I sincerely hope management takes this feedback seriously and works toward restoring the quality and service that once made this place so special.
