We get the Chicken pho and also the Eye round steak pho with tripe and tendon added. Ask for chili oil for extra kick and flavor. The bhan mi is the best we’ve had and he makes the bread, too! The owner gave us a mini education about how the pho is made which was very interesting! The milk tea is so fun with several flavors and you can adjust the sweetness and add Boba and different milks or juice.

If you’re extremely hungry, this special broken rice dish is your number one savior. The toppings are incredibly generous: crispy pork skin, rich and firm egg patties, plus a runny fried egg mixed with fluffy broken rice. A big plus is the pickled vegetables served alongside, which are very refreshing and balance the richness, so you can finish the whole plate without feeling overwhelmed. The service is quick, the food is always hot, definitely worth trying!

I almost don’t want to write a review because I’m afraid of how busy my new favorite pho spot might become this was undeniably the best pho I’ve ever had!
All the ingredients seemed simple and fresh, exactly how I anticipate my pho to be. What stood out to me in particular with that this ABUNDANT portion of protein had plenty collagen – making for a silky texture and rich and savory flavor (plus, why not glow while you eat!?) that only got better as I ate.
I also got a natural fruit tea (I chose guava, yum!), sweetened with honey. I love that you can choose your sweetened intensity (25%, 50%, 75%, 100%) – I went with regular and it was plenty sweet! I also topped mine off with lychee and I that was the perfect combo!
I didn’t catch their names unfortunately but the owners, who also served as the front and back end staff, were warm and hospitable.
Before I even finished, I was already anticipating coming back!
I hope everyone gives Mai Tea Vietnamese a try. It’s in a perfect location – right on the back of the mall between Melting Pot and C&O. For me it couldn’t be a more convenient location.
Best of luck to this restaurant!

We got Black Forest Fruit Tea and it had a blend of around 5 to 6 fresh fruits, no dyes/preservatives. We added the lychee boba and it paired very well with it. The chicken Bahn Mi sandwich and Chicken Pho were authentic in taste and very very delicious! Great portion size and hearty. Finally a local spot for great pho and Vietnamese food! The restaurant owners were incredibly kind and hospitable, cannot wait to go back!

We stopped by Mai Tea while traveling and I’m so glad we did. The Pho broth here is truly authentic, rich, flavorful, and nothing like the formula-style versions I usually get back home. You can really taste the care that goes into it. The owner was incredibly kind and welcoming, which made the experience even better. Service was quick and attentive, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. Highly recommend this spot if you’re looking for genuine Vietnamese food and great hospitality!

I have to say, the broth here is superb, clear yet rich with the flavor of simmered bones, without any overpowering MSG. The rare beef is blanched just right, retaining its sweetness and tenderness, while the brisket has a bit of fat and connective tissue, making it rich and flavorful without being greasy. Add a few slices of fresh chili and a squeeze of lime, and it’s perfect. A bowl of authentic traditional pho that any pho lover should try at least once!

I don’t get into town much and always grab some good food when I do. Like to try different small family restaurants. This day I was craving a Banh Mi and had never been to Mai Tea before. The atmosphere in the restaurant is great and the owners were delightful and pleasant. I was the first customer at 11am when they opened. Ordered 4 Banh Mi to go and took a walk around for about 15 minutes while they were being prepared. When I returned, this delicious smell overtook me as I walked in the door. Truly amazing and intoxicating. The sandwiches were delicious and my family said they were the best Banh Mi they’ve had in a long time. Especially the fact that they actually use French bread instead of hoagie rolls like other places in town. It was wonderful finding a place that can make a real authentic Banh Mi, and I will definitely be returning. The owners also gave me a complimentary plain tea. I’m not sure what kind of tea but it was seriously one of the best cups of tea I’ve ever had and will be getting more next time.

The Black Forest Milk Tea here is truly a masterpiece! The rich, creamy chocolate flavor blends perfectly with the subtle sweet and sour notes characteristic of the Black Forest (cherry/berry) flavor, creating an incredibly captivating overall experience. Especially the chewy black tapioca pearls, infused with a delicate sweetness, are incredibly addictive. A cup of milk tea that’s not only delicious but also looks very classy – definitely worth trying!

My partner and I decided to stop by Mai Tea since we were in town to look at UVA. The owner and his wife were very nice and made sure our milk teas were to our liking. It isn’t pictured here, but I got the Black Milk Tea with 25% sweet and almond milk and it was perfect.

Their banh xeo was also delicious— it was soft and crunchy at the same time which is hard to find anywhere and I haven’t been able to tackle that texture in my own home. Their P4 Pho was also really good. It has a lighter broth which is nice if you don’t want it to feel heavy on your stomach. Their banh mi (P1) is also very flavorful. I’m a bit biased as I love when my banh mi’s come with a bunch of mayonnaise, but if you don’t like mayonnaise as much, their banh mi’s would be perfect for you.

Parking is a bit tricky and you would have to find parking on the street or around the vicinity, but if you’re in town, you should stop by.

This is without a doubt the best Vietnamese restaurant in Charlottesville! It is a clean space with many seating options. The owners are Vietnamese and so incredibly friendly. The pho broth is very good, and the portions are generous. Their drinks are also very good! We got a Ceylon black tea. As someone who grew up eating Vietnamese food, I am very confident in saying that Mai Tea has a very authentic Vietnamese flavor to their food.

I went back and tried their banh mi at lunchtime. The baguettes are made in-house, crunchy in the Vietnamese style, and taste so good!
