I was a little hesitant to try this place because of the large number of 1-star reviews. SO glad I did. I told them I wanted extra hot on the Wisconsin scale and JUST somewhat hot on the Indian scale. They nailed the perfect spice level, and all of the food was absolutely delicious. I got the butter chicken, lassi, chai masala & cheese naan, my date got seafood curry, samosas and garlic naan. They nailed it all. Reminded me of my time in Shimla. And the staff were all very friendly and nice!!

Absolutely delicious! Rice is included, recommend sharing one dish, especially if you want dessert (their dessert is a must) and a side of Naan! Portions are generous, and the patio is very pleasant. Would not hesitate to eat here, their homemade cheese is to die for! Family owned and quiet, if you are a foodie, this is some of the best Indian food I’ve had.

I was really looking forward to trying the open buffet at Maharani but unfortunately, the experience was far from enjoyable. The food was a major letdown – it was cold, dry, and lacked flavor ( 2:00 PM). It felt like leftovers from the previous day.
To make matters worse, the staff was indifferent and seemed uninterested in providing good service. It’s a shame, as the potential for a great Indian buffet experience was there. I won’t be returning.
Not sure, if ordered from the menu, would get a different experience!!!!!

I had a togo order via uber eats – chicken biryani, chicken pakora and samosa. They did not add fork or spoon, I was like ok, that’s great! However, when I first dig in to pakora, man! this pakora has thick chickpeas lining than chicken itself. Chicken biryani is not biryani, its chicken curry mix with rice. I mean comon’ who puts green peppers in biryani?????

The Maharani is one of my favorite restaurants near downtown Madison! I personally love the lunch buffet from 11:30-3:30pm Friday-Sunday. The picture shows one example of foods you can get in the buffet. As a vegetarian, I love that they have a huge variety of plant-based entrees and side dishes. I am a picky eater, and I have not found one thing in this restaurant I do not like. I highly recommend them for both lunch and dinner. The atmosphere is ambient and relaxing and they have outdoor seating in the summer.

The Maharani lunch buffet ($21.05, tax included) has so many choices that you’ll definitely find several dishes that you’d get multiple helpings of. The stand outs were the tomato soup, the pakora, the biryani, and the fried fish. The different curries were also quite good. Leave room for their selection of desserts.

Every time! I have been coming here for almost a decade now! I highly recommend it- my favorites are the variety of lamb/ goat dishes. The naan is generously proportionate and tasty. The mango lassi – oh so yummy! I will be back!

The food at this place is amazing! We got the vegetarian appetizer platter and the chicken 65. It was all perfectly cooked and the flavors are exceptional! We got the dinner for two combination platter with buttered chicken curry, buttered lamb curry, and chicken curry. It came with nan bread and rice and a dessert. For dessert we got the fried sweet cottage cheese balls. It was worth every penny. I totally recommend trying this place. The service was fantastic and the food extraordinary!

The food was decent, but the service was extremely bad. The employees were rude and discriminatory, treating Indian and white customers well while treating others poorly. We were almost kicked out and repeatedly told the restaurant was closed even though there were still about 30 minutes remaining. Only after we confronted him did he finally seat us. This rude and disrespectful behavior has happened more than once and is not a one time incident. My dignity won’t allow me to come back again.
