Had a great first visit a month ago. Delicious food and great environment. Couldn’t wait to go try it again. As usual, great experience with food, service and dining experience at second visit. If anyone looking try India cuisine, this place should be your choice in downtown Elmhurst. Highly recommended.

This is located in downtown Elmhurst. You can find a parking garage nearby. You can park for free for 4 hours and it’s minutes away from the restaurant. The restaurant is a good size. We ordered gobi Manchurian, mango lassi, Indian masala tea, Maharaj dinner special for 2, shrimp masala, lamb vindaloo, garlic naan, and tandoori royal platter. I’ve been to a number of Indian places and this place is the most generous with their food portions. Most other ones are not shareable especially for a group of 4. Prices are fair and competitive with other Indian places. Service was very friendly and attentive. The drinks are pretty good. I liked that they gave you a large glass for the mango lassi. It was creamy and flavors popped out. The Indian masala tea was good, it was savory. Fyi, if you want basmati rice you’ll have to order it separately. Most of the Indian places I’ve been to in Illinois, you have to order it separately. Overall, I give it 4.5.
-gobi Manchurian 4 – this one could pass off as a Chinese dish. If you didn’t know it was cauliflower, it could easily pass off as chicken.
-Maharaj dinner special for 2 5 – this comes with tandoori chicken, seekh kebab, fish tikka, chicken tikka, rogan josh, dal makhani, and sweet gulab juman. I believe the basmati rice and naan comes with this. The rogan josh is very good. The dal makhani is made up of lentils and kidney beans. I recommend using the naan and rice and eating it with the sauces. The gulab juman is a mildly sweet dessert if you don’t eat the syrup on the bottom.
-shrimp masala 5 – they put in some big chunks of shrimp which is great. The sauce is medium spicy but enjoyable. This one is my personal favorite.
-lamb vindaloo 5 – the medium level does pack a bit of heat. It’s still very good. Lamb cubes were very tender.
-garlic naan 5 – we didn’t know that naan also comes with one of the samplers. The garlic version went fast. I’m not sure what kind are the other ones but they had a nice buttery taste.
-tandoori royal platter 5 – this is a good selection of different meats if you are new to Indian cuisine. It comes with tandoori chicken, malai chicken, chicken tikka, and seekh kebab. My personal favorites are tandoori chicken and seekh kebab. The meats are all well seasoned. The tandoori chicken is very tender and juicy.

Had dinner at Maharaja recently and really enjoyed it! The naan was delicious — soft, buttery, and perfectly cooked. The curries were flavorful and well-balanced, though I did feel the portion size could be a bit more generous. The biryani and sauces complemented everything nicely. The service was friendly and the ambiance was cozy, making it a pleasant dining experience overall. Would come back to try a few more dishes next time!

It’s another Maharaj chain. The food quality was decent. Highlight was lassi and bhindi kurkure. Samosa chat was good. Some curry items were decent. Decent portion sizes and good service. Worth a try.

We ordered take out and had bhel with it. The bhel was completely dry with huge chunks of tomatoes and barely any onions. We had to ask for the chutney that is supposed to already come with it. They didn’t have the right one so just gave us samosa chutney. When we said, to just keep the bhel and we’ll take rest of the order but the cashier couldn’t figure out how to do a refund. Overall, pretty disappointed with the food. Also, just a side note- rice is pretty standard with entrees and especially if you are charging over $15 for one entree than it should be included. Used to be one of our go to places but won’t go back there.

This place is amazing. Authentic menu. Outstanding flavor and spices. They are very courteous and actually care about your enjoyment of their great selection of food.
They seemed genuinely concerned on our first visit when we ordered the Chili Garlic Paneer at the spiciest level. I feel like they remembered us on the second visit and delighted our craving for . We ordered the main dishes of Chana Masala and the Maharaj Dinner Special at a medium. The flavor profile that this brings to the food is magical. Every flavor just jumps out at you with each of the different styles of meats, sauces, and vegetables.
We are not from the Chicago area, but the dinners we have had here have made this a visit to remember.
Ohhhhhh. Try the Jum for dessert.

The food at Maharaj is seriously next level — especially the chicken biryani. Easily one of the best biryanis I’ve had in Chicago. The rice is perfectly cooked, the chicken is tender and full of flavour, and the spices are just right — rich without being overwhelming.
I even catered from Maharaj for my friend’s birthday, and it was a huge hit with everyone. Full credit to the chef — the quality and taste were just as amazing in bulk.
My friends literally argue with me for always choosing Maharaj, but one bite and you get it. It’s that kind of place you keep going back to because it never disappoints.
If you’re a biryani lover, this spot is a must-try. Absolute comfort food win.

This is one of the best indian cuisines that I have been to. A little inconveniently located, a bit on the outside of Elmhurst downtown. Make sure you park your vehicle in the public parking. Do not park in the back lot or you might get towed. Food is phenomenal there, real and authentic indian food. The service is cordial and they make you feel like you are the only guest there.
