I’ve had the pleasure of dining at Maguey a couple of times now and I can now say without a doubt that this place is now in my go-to list for places to eat in the Kearny area. I had the calamari every time I’ve gone and I believe it may be one of the best I’ve had. The calamari is fresh, fried perfectly, and the accompanying sauce is rich and flavorful. You can’t go wrong with any of the food on the menu as it’s all delicious. It might just be my personal taste, but I would prefer if they used maybe a pinch of salt more than they normally do. That is not to say these dishes are not spiced wonderfully, they definitely are. I just like salt. I hope more people stop into this restaurant and support the local business.

I got takeout. I ordered chicken tamales with salsa Verde, rajas with cheese, chicken quesadillas ( comes with Oaxaca cheese, guacamole, sour cream) and a side of fresh guacamole which was huge. My order was prepared and ready in 10 to 12 minutes. The food was fresh, the portions were generous. The place has a nice atmosphere though I did not eat there. I would recommend.

My fiancé and I arrived at 6pm on a Friday, and were seated immediately. It was karaoke night, but the music was so loud that we couldn’t hear our waitress. Tacos Dorrados appetizer was great, so were our chimichanga and steak enchiladas. They applied 15% gratuity because our bill was $50+ and were a little pricey ($15 Mojito) but over all, we’d go back. Dinner was done by 7pm.

Went last night for the first time. Sat at the bar. Marcos was an amazing bartender. Made great drinks and was fun to chat with. Got nachos as an appetizer, a burrito bowl and pork enchiladas for dinner. The food was delicious, drinks were amazing. This is definitely our new go to spot for Mexican.

The food was good. I’d put it on par with local, Mi Pueblito. Unfortunately that is about where the good stops. I wanted to be fair and review on a curve since they are new but later realized they’ve been open for a month.
Took almost ten minutes to be seated because hostess was sitting down at bar having private conversations with friends.
After seating, it would be another ten minutes before we would be greeted by server but almost 20 minutes before we got our drinks (soda & water).
Fortunately the atmosphere to include music was good but needed a winter coat. Our total
stay lasted almost 2 hours. There were 7 tables of patrons with 4 servers. Our server had to cover the front door since the hostess continued to take enjoyment at the bar.
Multiple patrons were witnessed asking for service assistance due to extended waits. After we received our food we had to
wait again for silverware.
They have no right serving drinks more so for the price they charge. NYC prices for juice! If you’re looking for atmosphere and drinks go to nearby Agave Marie (Beat Bang for your Buck).
The insult was the automatic 18% gratuity and a $120 plus bill. They are charging champagne prices for a beer product. This restaurant is next door to a Dollar General and emptied 7-11.

I was able to finally get over this place. The food was really good. I had the guac, Street corn, Pasole and my wife had the fish tacos. Neither disappointed.
Definitely check out their drink specials as well

Food was wonderful. Nice drink selection. I enjoyed the margarita flight. Excellent service. Will definitely be back soon. If you order molcajete ask for a spoon for the delicious peppers and onions at the bottom

This place recently had new hires, and it shows. The negative reviews are going to fade out, this place rocks. The food is of the highest quality and the service was excellent. Our servers were better than most of the new places I’ve been to in quite some time. They took great care of my family and I, and I will be coming again and again for the experience.
