I purchased two Caba’s, and both were burned. The chicken was tough, but I tried to enjoy it. However, the pita was completely inedible and burned so badly that I couldn’t eat the sandwich. The bread was tough like a crackers and the entire sandwich fell apart because it broke in half when I tried closing it to bite. I called to explain the issue. The young lady who answered the phone was kind, as she always is, but Niko was extremely rude. I offered to send a picture, but he declined, saying he doesn’t give out his personal number (not sure why there isn’t a business email for customers). His only solution was for me to bring the sandwich back so they could remake it. I explained that I had to return to work and that the restaurant would be closed by the time I got off, since they were closing in the next hour and a half. His response, in a very nasty tone, was essentially: “What am I supposed to do, give you a new sandwich after you ate the other one?”
I even offered to bring the sandwich back the next day, since it was too burned to eat (especially for $17). Honestly, I wouldn’t have served this to anyone. After that call, I was so disappointed and disgusted that I don’t even care to return it; I’d rather toss it and not experience anymore bad service.
If Niko sees this, I hope he at least apologizes and treats the next customer with more kindness. People can always choose to go elsewhere. I’ve been a repeat customer because the staff has always been so nice, but this experience was truly disheartening
We made a reservation for a larger group. However, we arrived first (we stayed in downtown Chicago), found parking on the street (easy to do on a Sunday morning) and was seated pretty promptly.
The rest of our party were all arriving separately and took a while to arrive. The restaurant seated us in the middle of the place and kept walking by eyeing us trying to see if our party was arriving soon. I think we waited nearly half and hour for our friends to show. That was embarrassing on our part, but was annoying for the restaurant as they were busy and we were taking up three tables.
Our group finally arrived and then it took the restaurant nearly thirty minutes to take our order. They were busy and I think annoyed that our group took so long to arrive.
For the most part, everyone ordered traditional breakfast items: omelets, scrambled eggs, pancakes, french toast, etc. One person ordered lunch. I ordered the waffle with bacon and sausage. It was good.
Everyone thought their food was good and despite the owners speaking curtly with our table, our server was friendly and offered suggestions.
It’s a cute breakfast spot like any other in any other suburb. Their food was good, coffee mugs and soda cups constantly full. If we lived in the area, we’d dine here often.
So if you’re looking for breakfast, look no further. They got what you want, but if you’re a little late, be prepared for the sideways glances and curt attitude from the owners.
But we need to have a national conversation about fruit salad. We need more than 90% melon and 10% pineapple. We deserve better as a people.
