Special-occasion institution features classically prepared French cuisine in a formal dining room.

All appetizers and entrees are good quality but not extraordinary in any way. The souffles and crema inglese sauce is pretty extraordinary. Be sure to order well when you order appetizers because each is made to order.

One doesn’t have to travel across the ocean to find a piece of the French countryside. Located in the residential area of Northvale and named after the owner’s mom, Madeleine’s Petit Paris is a fantastic establishment with a culinary delight. The owner, François, is Swiss and unfortunately was off tonight. He does a very good job of making one feel like one is in France or Switzerland, where my partner, our friends and I came tonight for dinner. Reservations were easily made on their website. Upon arrival, one is seated quickly in what seems to be someone’s large living room or elegant dining room. Their à la carte menu is a fusion of Swiss and French, which has a unique flavor and offers enough variety for everyone. Our server was Al, and he brought complimentary warm bread to us to start our meal. Some of us got to taste their French martini (pineapple vodka, pineapple juice, and raspberry liqueur). For appetizers, we ordered Escargots Café de Paris (out of the shell, sautéed with garlic, herbs, and butter) and Crab Cake Louisiana (jumbo lump crab meat, bell peppers, onions, and bread crumbs over mild Louisiana sauce). For entree, we got Boneless Braised Short Ribs Garnished with Carrots, Celery, and Green Peas over Mashed Potatoes, Pork Medallions Normand (sautéed with apples and Calvados (French apple brandy) over Mashed Potatoes), and Canard Confit à L’Orange (breast is sautéed, leg is confit, served with Grand Marnier sauce and wild rice). We even saved room for desserts and got a soufflé to share one Grand Marnier and the other chocolate. Since we’ve been here several times, every dish has been well prepared and tasty, from the appetizers to the main course to the desserts, with no detail overlooked. We continue to recommend this place and hope to meet the owner on our next visit.

Came in for family dinner. Service was very nice and atmosphere was comfortable and welcoming. We ordered about 3 appitizers and 6 orders of entrée. Bread was warm and tasty. Salad and mussels were fresh and delicious. Entrées took longer time than we expected, but all the dishes were amazing. I had rack of lamb it was cooked perfectly and no gamey smell at all. Portions are smaller sized than average, but given the quality of ingredients, it seems fair. I would recommend this place for special occasions.

If you’re seeking authentic French cuisine in North New Jersey, this is the place to be! The food is outstanding, and the service and ambiance create a truly delightful dining experience. I highly recommend starting with the Mussels sautéed in garlic herb butter, which was rich and flavorful.
For the entrée, the Beef Bourguignon was exceptional—tender beef cooked in burgundy wine with mushrooms, bacon, onions, and croutons served over creamy mashed potatoes. The Capellini Ratatouille was also a standout, bursting with fresh flavors and a perfect balance of vegetables.
Make sure to order the Grand Marnier Soufflé as soon as you sit down—it’s the perfect end to an unforgettable meal. This is French dining at its finest, and I highly recommend it!

We went for a random Saturday dinner at Madeleine to try out their French cuisine. Luckily we had no wait time, there were just enough tables to sit two. The restaurant was packed overall. It’s pretty old fashioned town house style inside, but they a beautiful bar and some really nice interior with French touch.
They have a pretty decent long menu with variety of dishes, including lots of drinks options. We really liked their wine suggestion of the moscato. Food wise, we started with the mussels and scallops, both excellent but scallops was beyond good, loved the sauce in it. We got the calves liver and Branzino for entree. I loved the Branzino, it was cooked to perfection temperature. The liver dish had 5 pieces with caramelized onion. That was a lot of liver to eat in one meal. I’d have preferred less onion my dish too. But the liver itself was also cooked well and tasted great.
Even though we didn’t order dessert, we saw everyone else getting the souffle, which seems to be their specialty, and changes accordingly to the season.
Our server really busy, so we did have to wait a bit on wrapping up, but overall we had a wonderful dinner, and glad to have found this great French location close to our home.

Truly amazing. We just had our baby shower here. Easy to accommodate our music, decorations and table shifts. Food was perfect and the staff was on point. Thank you all and especially to Francois for helping us and being hands on the entire time.

Excellent meal at Madeline’s. The service was very attentive. The food was delicious; the fresh pea soup to start followed by steak au poivre (cooked perfectly, as requested) and frites. For dessert the chocolate souffle was wonderful and came with a light cream sauce. The ambiance was elegant and comfortable. Highly recommend.

The food is outstanding as is the service and ambiance. If you are looking for mouthwatering French cuisine in Bergen County, this is the place for you. Great food! Each flavor can be tasted separately, but the combination of flavors makes the dish come alive.
For apps, we ordered Mussels , Escargots (sautéed with garlic herbs butter), Foie Gras (sautéed with sherry over confit of onions and dried fruits in port wine). For entree, we ordered filet mignon au pointe with onion rings (deglazed cognac sauce), beef bourguignon (burgundy wine with mushroom, bacon, onions, croutons over mashed potatoes. and capellini ratatouille. Absolutely incredible.
Highly recommend you order grand marnier souffle as soon as you sit down. We had the chocolate puff pastry and the souffle. Thank you Francois for the amazing hospitality.
We can’t wait to go back!

I was lucky enough to get a reservation on their last night of being open. Upon arrival , I noticed their newly paved parking lot! Wow. I repaved my driveway this year so I can imagine how much that cost! This never happened before, upon being seated …. We weren’t so lucky… our table was next to a party 9, 5 being children under the age of 8. So much for the bliss of a lovely quiet dinner, where I could actually talk to my daughter and fiance. Gone are the days of a lovely, respectable French restaurant where Madeline and Gespard come out to the dining room at ~830pm and sing to their customers, where the clientele was typically 65+ and I was the youngest — but at least I wouldn’t have to shout to have a conversation. I was never so inconsiderate of other patrons, when my children were young, who were out for an evening of fine dining and a pleasant atmosphere.
It’s a shame that the new management changed the menu to ala-carte only-exponentially increasing the prices, treated their employees disrespectfully and ruined such a lovely restaurant (in all respects… food, atmosphere, prices) that his parents built over many, many years.
I feel very sorry for their waitstaff, several who had been with for them for decades, only to be told they are out of a job only 4 days ago! Shameful.
I will greatly miss the previous Madeline’s.
