Great selection of German beer. If you aren’t sure which German beer to order Jo, is the expert and she helped me select the Sly Fox Helles. Super smooth and one of the best beer I have had! My wife ordered the Ruby Red Reuben with fresh cut fries. Wonderful flavorful on marble rye delicious. Their brisket corned beef flavor was spot on. I would have like it to be just a little bit more tender for sandwhich. The fries were definitely fresh cut and wonderful. I ordered the German sampler platter with bratwurst, knockwurst, weisswurst served on sauerkraut with German potato salad, spaetzle, a pretzel stick and fresh applesauce. Each of sausages are absolutely delicious prepared expertly and mouth watering. When my wife tried their fresh warm applesauce she claimed it as her own. Fresh, chunky, not overly sweet easily the best we have had. Mad Anthony’s is famously haunted. We did not have any unusual visitors, but I promise, it will not be our last time. Mad Anthony’s has so much character and a beautiful restaurant.

Mad Anthony’s is a fantastic little local spot full of character and history. This was our second time visiting, and both times we felt incredibly welcomed.
Rich, the owner, and his wife Jill were wonderful to talk with. Rich took time to share the rich history of the building and even showed us the space out back where they’re creating a Bier Garten. It was such a cool experience and made us feel more like family than customers.
The food is excellent. Last week I had the bratwurst and it was honestly the best I’ve ever had. And I have to say—I’ve never liked sauerkraut in my life… until now! The sauerkraut here has a slightly sweet flavor and for the first time ever I actually enjoyed it.
Amanda, the bartender, has taken great care of us both times we visited. She made me an Old Fashioned, and I’m very particular about them—she absolutely nailed it. They also have a great whiskey selection along with some excellent German beers.
Between the rustic charm, the history of the building in Old Economy Village, the great food and drinks, and the welcoming atmosphere, Mad Anthony’s is a place we would highly recommend. We’ll definitely be back. Maybe… We’ll become “regulars”. I should have taken more pictures.

We started with a dark beer and a chocolate martini . The schnitzel is absolutely delicious. The service and the atmosphere make you feel right at home. The warm German potato salad and the apple sauce is my favorite.

We had read the reviews and expected too much from this restaurant perhaps. While it is always great to eat in a new establishment, especially one that offers food not typically found in the area, the experience was pretty lame. The food itself is bland. Very bland. The items you think that should set this restaurant apart in everyone’s minds would be the meats and salads. Instead they were overcooked, dried out, burnt or just tasted awful. The sauerkraut, potato pancakes and potato salad tasted as though they came from a container or box. The food preparation in the kitchen is a huge factor for this poor review. Just as an example, two of us got pork and both of us were served our pork with it sitting on a base of sauce to hide the fact that it was entirely burnt black on that side while the top was hardly cooked at all. Drink service and wait service doesn’t exist. Period. Finally, let’s address the environment inside. Freezing! And the bathroom was akin to walking into a renovation in progress. Perhaps it was, I’m not sure…

Came to Ambridge to checkout Mad Anthony’s for the first time. The Jagerschnitzel was so good! Loved the fries and everything I got to try, the restaurant is beautiful and everyone was having a good time. Service was great and friendly and our server Brittany really took care of us for our lunch

The Pork Jagerschniitzel and Chicken Schnitzel were both cooked perfectly. We also loved the spatzle and German potato salad. The waitress was knowledgeable and attentive. We are thrilled to have them in Ambridge and will be back soon to try some German sausage.

From the moment we walked in, the experience was exceptional. The service was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming without ever feeling rushed or intrusive. Every staff member clearly takes pride in what they do, and it shows in the smallest details.

The food was outstanding—fresh, flavorful, and thoughtfully prepared. Each dish was beautifully presented and cooked to perfection, with quality ingredients that truly stood out. It’s clear that care and consistency go into every plate that leaves the kitchen.

The atmosphere struck the perfect balance between comfortable and inviting. The space was clean, well-designed, and had a relaxed energy that made us want to linger and enjoy the moment rather than rush through the meal.

What truly sets this place apart is the ownership. It’s evident that the owners are deeply invested in both their guests and their team. Their passion, professionalism, and commitment to excellence create an experience that feels personal and authentic.

This is the kind of place you look forward to returning to—and confidently recommend to others. An absolute gem.

Never got our food after an hour so we left, the atmosphere is beautiful. The beer is good, the server never came back to share with us what was going on with our food. Seemed like no one was getting their orders.

This was my husband’s and my second visit to Mad Anthony’s Bier Stube, and we were really impressed with how much they’ve hit their stride.

Our first visit was during their very first week open, and while the German beer selection was fantastic, service was understandably a bit slow (over an hour wait for a single appetizer). That said, the staff was incredibly apologetic, and we know how tough those early weeks can be — so we left with no hard feelings and fully planned to return once things settled in.

We came back yesterday and sat at the bar, and what a difference! We ordered an appetizer, two entrées, and dessert, and never waited more than 20 minutes between courses. Everything was absolutely delicious. The food tasted traditional and comforting — like something Grandma would make. The hot mulled wine was the perfect pairing with dessert, and the beer selection is still top-notch.

Shoutout to Ryan, the bartender, who was fun to chat with and made the experience even better. The improvements in service were clear, and it’s great to see how well things are coming together. Keep up the great work — we’ll definitely be back!

Been there twice & I’m madly in love with it!

First visit (w/2 others so we could order different things & taste) – the jagerschnitzel, spaetzle, potato pancakes, the warm potato salad were perfect. I don’t normally like sauerkraut but I absolutely love theirs! Pretzel was your standard, their spicy brown mustard was my fav but the ones that tried the beer cheese said it needed more beer & was too much like queso. The bursts were so good too! Nice selection of German & craft beers. Loved the whole vibe & can’t wait for warm weather to try the beer garden seating.

Second visit (lunch to go) – had the Mad Anthony club with fries. Best sandwich I’ve had in ages!

Loving this place! Add some more German staples & desserts, please! Would love to see a charcuterie board with meats, cheeses, pickles, radishes, breads & mustard, plus dishes like rouladen, sauerbraten, strudel & Berliners.
