I stopped in on Easter Sunday, and the vibe as always was relaxed and welcoming. It was a bit quieter than usual, which made for incredibly fast service. Typically, this place is packed and full of energy, your classic neighborhood bar feel.
Before I arrived, I’ll admit, I had the munchies—so I came ready to eat. I ordered the 6 Wood Grilled Jerk Wings and the Chimichurri Steak, and both were top-notch.
The Jerk Wings were flavorful and spicy—definitely had a kick! A bit on the salty side, but still delicious. I do think the menu should mention how spicy they are, since some people might not be expecting that level of heat.
The Chimichurri Steak, though? Absolute perfection. Tender, juicy, and seasoned beautifully. From the first bite, I knew it was something I’d crave again and I still am!
The staff is always friendly, and the atmosphere is consistently great. Mac’s is hands-down one of the best neighborhood bars I’ve visited in Chicago.
That being the case I entered, got the attention of one of the servers, as I sat down at the end of the bar that was open, and made my intentions clear of what I wanted. After a few minutes he got back to me and I ordered Daddy Mac’s burger, and just for good measure I added in an order of their Bacon Cheese Fries. I was told the wait would be about 20 minutes. I was totally fine with that, it gave me a bit of time to take in the atmosphere.
The actual wait time I would say was between 10-15 minutes, so a little under his estimate.
The Daddy Mac’s Burger, was good, enough for a dinner for two if you cut it in half. Though I did find the pickles’s garlic flavor a bit over powering though, and according to menu on their website it was supposed to have a sesame seed bun, mine just was potato bun. Neither of these took away from the experience.
The Bacon Cheese fries was excellent, the cheddar cheese sauce was of very good quality, and didn’t taste overly processed, which is always a welcome fact.
All in all a pleasant experience.
Good amount of seating with easily viewable TVs. There’s a stack of board games in the back and they regularly do things for holidays and various sporting events.
We enjoyed a cool evening outside with our food and a couple of brews. The wait staff was excellent.
