Rude and Unprofessional. Ordered a stromboli and they gave me sub bread with pizza ingredients. I asked for a refund or a substitution as its clearly not a stromboli and they said that’s how they’ve always made there stromboli. Well they’ve always done it wrong then. They were rude about it and acted like I was wrong. For the staff I hope you read this to educate yourselves.

Out of towners came to hike and decided to explore a local pizza spot. We were more then impressed. We thoroughly enjoyed the garden deep dish which had surprising flavors!! Definitely recommend supporting this tasty local joint!

I have always heard about this place from my husband. He grew up near here as a child, so he would always say how great this place is. I can’t believe the other reviews for this place are real. We have only eaten at Mackie’s in Harrisburg, IL twice. Neither of us could remember why we didn’t like it the first time but with the reviews we figured we must have just been there on a bad day and needed to give it a second chance. Well I can say for sure now that this is the worst pizza that we have ever had. We got a deep dish pepperoni. It was burnt! It is the toughest crust that I have ever experienced, we were sick and tired of chewing it way before we were ever full. The sauce is sickening sweet, pizza sauce should not be sweet! After we made it through our first piece, the pizza had cooled and the cheese on the second piece was about as difficult to bite through as the crust. I was angry laughing as I was gnawing on a piece while watching my wife bite 5 times to get her first bite separated from her second piece of pizza. We typically like crushed red pepper on the pizza and that was a mistake the flavor profile was burnt, sweet, spicy, that was just way confusing to the taste buds, and if my first piece of pizza had any pepperoni on it I couldn’t tell. I had it cold last night because I was afraid of how tough the crust would be warmed up. It was still a challenge to chew and I swear it seemed sweeter. Brenda said to throw her’s out to the raccoons because she wasn’t eating it. As for the ambiance of the restaurant – the dining room was so full of smoke from the kitchen it had my eyes burning and watering the entire time that we were in there. We are going to do our best to remember this experience so that we never make the mistake of eating at Mackie’s ever again.

Food was good, but order was wrong and didn’t want to drive the hr and 20 back to Illinois. Harrisburg special asked for pepper rings was told they didn’t have plus barely any pepperoni like only six pieces found. there was no Canadian bacon, hamburger, or sausage on it. And very little sauce. Usually much better but yesterday visit was not good. Was a wasted 56 bucks and the hr and 20 mins worth of gas.

Prior to this experience, I had given them 5 stars. This experience changed my mind some. Food was good, as usual, a little burnt, however still good. But the waitress we had was quite rude. Threw our straws and pizza down on the table, as if we weren’t there. Didn’t seem like she even wanted to be there. When asking about her, someone said “Was she being rude?” as if they already knew what was coming. She didn’t come back to the table once. We had to go up front and ask for a box. When looking in at the counter, we noticed staff sitting down on their phones in the back. Hope this experience isn’t something that happens to others often.
