Lupe Tortilla – a restaurant with roots in Texas and a reputation for serving handcrafted, high-quality Texas-Mex cuisine in a welcoming atmosphere. Established in 1983 in a modest 1940s-frame house in Houston, it quickly became a local favorite. Lupe Tortilla has stayed true to its standards—only fresh ingredients, scratch-made recipes, and cozy but evolving atmosphere. Lupe Tortilla’s menu is made of Tex-Mex tradition, crafted with authenticity. The attention to detail doesn’t stop there: limes are hand-squeezed, the famous lime-pepper-marinated fajitas are renowned, and their signature margaritas are made to order with fresh squeezed juices and premium tequilas.

Regional Tex-Mex chain known for its homemade tortillas & variety of margaritas.

A very welcoming atmosphere, Zee was our waitress and very friendly and on top of things, great service. Phenomenally clean restrooms, I was very pleased. Food was absolutely delicious and portions are plenty, so much you end up needing a to go box. Recommened highly!

Upscale Mexican restaurant with good food and good service. Large portions and lots of variety. The staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant was packed and lively. The prices were okay for that type of restaurant. Family friendly place.

My wife and I recently had a great experience at Lupe Mexican Restaurant. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was welcoming and comfortable. The environment had a great energy—clean, inviting, and perfect for enjoying a relaxed meal together.

We especially want to recognize Tealc. He was very professional and took the time to introduce himself, which really stood out to us. That kind of personal touch shows pride in the work and genuine care for guests. It’s always refreshing to see leadership that is present, engaged, and willing to connect with customers.

The food overall was very good and full of flavor. You can tell care goes into the preparation and presentation. If we had one small recommendation, it would be to slightly cut back on the cumin spice in some of the dishes. Cumin is a great spice and adds wonderful depth, but when it’s a little too heavy, it can overpower the other flavors that make Mexican cuisine so special. A lighter balance would allow the other spices and ingredients to really shine.

Overall, my wife and I truly enjoyed our visit great service, flavorful food, and a welcoming environment. We’ll definitely be back.

I’ve always held Lupe Tortilla in high regard—especially with my personal connection to the brand. I worked at Lupe’s for five years, and my brother was a general manager at the original Houston location, so I’ve seen firsthand the level of quality and pride that used to define this restaurant. Sadly, today’s experience left me completely disappointed.

Maybe it was just this location, or maybe they had a new cook, but everything felt off. We started with the Campechana, which took an unreasonably long time to arrive—especially considering it’s a cold appetizer. When it finally got to the table, it was almost inedible. Worst of all, it had something in it that resembled a burnt potato but felt like a bone ( they don’t make potatoes btw) I could’ve broken a tooth! I brought it to the manager’s attention, and frankly, the lack of urgency or concern was alarming. At the very least, I expected some genuine remorse for the delay and the potential hazard.

Then came my entrée, the Ensalada Verde—normally one of my favorites. This time, it was a total miss. The avocados were brown and bitter, completely ruining the dish. Why serve something so clearly past its prime? And the meat? Totally bland, with none of the flavor I’ve come to expect from this place.

Lupe’s used to set the bar for Tex-Mex, but today left me questioning if that’s still true. I sincerely hope this was just an off day, but it was a major letdown.

Like this review if you love Mexican food!

The Mexican food here is the best that I can find in Hill Country, texas. I’ve been to all the little mom and pop places that people talk about online but they all kind of suck. The food at Lupe’s along with the atmosphere and the service make this the best place around. Try the ground beef (Molina) tacos, so good!

The atmosphere was great. The wait staff were fantastic! The wait for the food, long. Beans were very spicy. Not a fan of spicy heat.
Flan as a birthday surprise, really good!
This restaurant is a great place, but the kitchen needs to move faster.

I had a mostly good experience at Lupe Tortilla. The food was okay I ordered the flautas and would rate them a 7/10, but they were a bit cold when they came out. When I asked to speak to the manager about it, Paula was very rude and dismissive. She insisted the food was fine and fresh instead of addressing my concern, which was disappointing. On a positive note, my server was amazing and I have no complaints about the service from them. Overall, I was very disappointed with management and won’t be visiting this location again. I would rather go to another Lupe Tortilla than this one.

Food was pretty decent. Drinks were very very good! Good place to appetize and drink for sure. They serve beans with salsa and chips upon entry. Fajitas were really good. Salsa is not spicy, but we asked for a spicier one and they made one from serranos for us, which was perfect and so good!
