Such a special place. Food was amazing, such a wonderful inviting atmosphere, and kind informative service that bridged the gap between counter and full service. Love the retail area too! Had 2 treats from the case for dessert. I can’t wait to go back.

You have to want quirky, creative, and atmosphere, but if you do this place is great. They have a menu that changes which I always like. They use locally sourced foods wherever possible and do a great job with it. The food is super interesting and creative despite the fairly short menu. They also have really nice baked products and desserts. We often argue over which cookies are better. My wife and daughter like the ginger sorghum best, and I like the peanut butter miso best. Strange hours are really the only drawback.

We came to Lunch for a private event, so we did not get the usual experience, yet what we did see was more than enough to convince us that Lunch was a quality restaurant, worth visiting regardless of the circumstances. The atmosphere is incredible, warm and inviting, with a cozy, friendly vibe that reminds one of community and connection. The staff were equally welcoming, always polite and helpful. The food, oh the food… It cemented itself and remains in my memory, the deliciousness and the filling nature. Even now, I can taste the flavors on my tongue and feel the light, crispy crust of the quiche crumble against my teeth. I hope we are able to come to Sewanee again soon, and when we do, you had better bet we will make our way in to Lunch for some lunch (or even dinner). ✨ ✨

This place was a gem. It had a lot of interesting options to try and the staff was simply the sweetest.
We tried the bison burger which was phenomenal. I think this item was seasonal. The we had the chai which has been one one best I’ve had no joke.
Then we had a blueberry cronout and zucchini sandwich corn bisque and hoe cake carnitas.

Going to Lunch is like going to the cool kid’s house when you were little. They have the best desserts & snacks. They make meals your parents couldn’t dream of concocting. And the homey atmosphere is charming & clean, welcoming you into a room full of details to explore.
The attention to serving fresh, local food is unmatched – the menu changes every week. Every. damn. week. Very impressed by the creativity & planning that goes into preparing that menu – you can never get bored because you won’t eat the same thing twice. Don’t miss the garden surrounding the building.
I made the trip from New York City to check it out & couldn’t be more impressed. No five star restaurant compares to the care & love that went into Lunch. The fresh pastries are unmatched. The market has curated products to die for. The merch is top-notch.
Staff was extremely accommodating & welcoming. Head chef & creator, Mallory, has created a delightful restaurant with irresistible food.
Don’t walk, run.

Lunch is uber pleasant. All A+’s for liveliness, menu, and atmosphere. While heavily patronized by people like me who I guess are visitors, it also feels like it’s other people’s hang spot and staple. Being there makes me feel included. The menu is thrifty, surprising, and satisfying. Not too fancy or expensive to stop by after a trail run (dusty).
Gorgeous baked goods and decor. The plants, furniture, market offerings, and ceramic dinnerware are functional/surprising/beautiful (chosen!). Bravo!

I’ve been twice now, and both times were wonderful! The flavors are on point, and the staff were very helpful and kind! The Caesar was delicious, and my daughter said the chocolate pastry she had was the best. Tonight I took home a gluten free dessert, and I’m very much looking forward to trying it out.

We ordered an $18 bison burger. So expensive my husband and I decided to share. After ordering, there was no place to sit except outside in the cold. When the burger came (already cut in half) it was VERY pink, not rare, but raw. I knew it was raw after a small bite. The meat was browned on the outside and that’s it. AWFUL! And no side of fries or even chips to go with it. We left vowing never to return to this place. It makes me sick to think about this raw piece of meat passed off as something edible.

I am so excited to be the first five-star review! Holy mackerel, this place is a GIFT to Sewanee. The atmosphere is absolutely charming, and the food was the best I’ve had on the Mountain, hands-down. The grits and greens were TO-DIE-FOR, the aroma of fresh soup was intoxicating, and DO NOT FORGET to grab a dessert! The sourdough brownie and the fig and ricotta pastry were both excellent. I’ve found my new go-to meal place in the Village, and you should too!

This is not your typical, “copy and paste” restaurant. I’ve had lunch here a couple of times as well as two special dinners. When I say this place is one of a kind, I am not kidding.
What has amazed me is the specially curated menu each week, the thoughtfulness of having ingredients that are in season AND from farmers from the area, kind staff, and the super cute and warm environment… there’s no place like it. It’s hard to find original places anymore that put as much thought into their food like these people do.
If it was my first time in Sewanee, I would base my entire visit around lunch at LUNCH. 🙂
